I recently purchased a Montana longbow 55# @ 28". I would like to know what a good arrow would be for this bow. I will be using it for mule deer in Ca.I have some 3555 gold tip expedition hunters with 100 gr. tips that I used with my 45# recurve , but I'm sure they will be too lite.
Try em. See how they fly. Mine is the same weight, and I use Gold Tip 5575s with 145 grain heads and it works fine. You might be able to get away with it with those points. Love that bow.
Thanks I will try them. My draw is 27" so my draw weight should be 52#, that may make a difference.
i just got a Montana also in 50#.im lovn this bow too.
Try your arrows with it. If they're too weak in spine, build out the strike plate on the side of the shelf. This will cause the arrow to act as though it is stiffer. That's what I have done with several bows, including my Pittlsey Predator that I shoot presently. It works great!
That dynamic spine calculator from Stu Miller is AWESOME! It has completely taken the guesswork out of this whole thing for me. Coupled with the tuning method from O.L. Adcock, it has my setup just right----almost right away.

I use the GT 35/55's out of low 50's bows with 250gr. up front and they fly fine (cut to 29").
I shoot full length GT 35/55's with 145gr up front out of my Montana 55 @ 28 (I draw 29)and they fly good.
I assume this is one of Toelke's bows? If so I have one that is nearly identical in poundage. Dan told me to try a .500 spine arrow with a 75 gr insert and a 125-160 gr tip. I did this and the arrows fly great! All the charts I see list them as being underspined but I can't argue with results.

I have the same bow but @50#. I am using Stika Spruce arrows from Northwest Archery. Spine is 60# to 65#. Suzanne and I talked about how far the shelf is cut and the aforementioned weight seems correct according to a chart and experience she had. I use four fletch as well. The arrows fly great. The only thing that changes for you is your draw length. Dynamicly,your arrow will be stiffer with the shorter draw length. You should be able to use a lower spined arrow. I would get a test kit and spend some time tuning. 3Rivers has some kits or you can purchase individual arrows at different spines from Lancaster Archery. I was just there yesterday helping a friend select arrows for a 45# Sage recurve.

I would use easton legacy 2018 with 150 grain bh. I have the montana and this is my arrow setup. Works great
i also have a montana in 55# 2117 with 125 gr tips.shoots like a dart gun
im still figuring the spine stuff out.so iv got the montana in 50#.right now im shooting cedar arrows that are 27 1/2" long.what would be the right spine weight for me with wooden arrows?and iv also thought of going with the Easton Legacy arrows too.would i want 2016's or what do you guys think?picking the right arrows has been kinda confusing me.thanks,Ross
Well I finally got to shoot my Montana l/b. With the 35/55 gt's and a 125 gr. tip I was right on at about 15 yards. I was very impressed with the bow. Since I was running out of daylight I could not get a further shot to check how these arrows will fly at some distance. I did have some problems with the nocks breaking. The serving seems a little thick for my nocks. Anybody else have this problem?
Once I got my nock situation fixed life is great . The bow shoots great, nothing but good times ahead.
