I shot this little yearling doe tonight. It was the first traditional harvest that I have ever had. It took me 3 arrows. But I got a good solid hit and the magnus one did a exceptional job.
When I practice I have an acronymn I go by its DAP and it stands for Draw Anchor Pick a spot. Well I completely forgot about it the first arrow. The second I got to Anchor and when the cock feather hit my nose I let go. Shooting right over her for a second time. The third time I completed my acronym and got a good hit. The deer went about 40 yards and collapsed.
Through this outing I have learned alot about Traditional Hunting. I have learned that you have to take your time and go through your motions just like you are practicing. This was my first harvest with a traditional bow and my first year hunting with it after a long summer of shooting.
Was it luck.... Probably. But the lessons learned were well worth it.
Equipment.

Mission--------- Complete!
nice job
congrats.
Hey be proud of it....does not matter if she was small or not. I have yet to take a deer with my Longbow.
Oh and congrats.
Congrats! You're always going to remember your first one.
Like that DAP acronym.
Thanks Guys. Hopefully that acronym will catch on to a new shooter or two and help them just like it did me.
Congradulations! The first of many. Hap
Congrats on a fine animal.
Congratulations! They are harder to hit! Smaller target. Some of the best meat there is right there!
Keeping the Faith!
Magnus
congrats and great shot with the last arrow.
In the picture you look shocked, so was I the first time I took a deer with a trad bow. It's kind of like , wow it worked, that was in 1996. I just started back to Trad. and had a BIG buck about 12-15 yds. from my tree this past Saturday. Good thing I had no shot for a few minutes so I could get myself together. He ended up walking away, didn't matter as I still had no shot.
Congrats. Keep on practicing.
Magnus took the words right off my keyboard. I got a yearling like that the first evening of a weeklong camp/hunt years ago. (Pre-Trad days) We ate off him every night that week after hunting all day. Man was that good eating! Still working on my first Trad Deer. Congrats on your first! Consider those first two shots not as misses, they were just "Unheeded Warning Shots". The third shot you "Heeded" him right into your freezer! Congrats again! :clapper:
Good Job!
That one is bound to be extra tasty!
 Good job! First always seems to be the hardest. Hope it's the first of many.
Way to go my man!!! You've already made the most common mistake, falling to pieces! Luckily you got a second chance right off the bat. Then you made the second most common mistake, not picking a spot. And Luckily again, you got a final chance and made everything work.
Congrats to you again for putting it all together. It can be real tough if you have to make those mistakes over several outings... Really can try your patience with the new to you equipment. Now just remember the lessons you have learned so quickly and keep at it. Also, remember to keep practicing during the season, that is a mistake I still make myself.
Again, Congrats on your first! You won't forget that sequence of events for a long time if ever!
You gotta love that deer. Not only was she your first, but she let you work out some jitters and stayed for the end of the party! Congrats for pulling it all together and don't be surprised if you miss another one we all do from time to time.
Congratulations!!! I am pleased to hear that you got your first deer. Eat well and savor not only the deer, but the hunt.
God Bless,
Nathan
Good Stuff!! CONGRATS!
Very nice congratultions.
Just got my first a few weeks ago. Great feeling aint it. :archer:
nerves got the better of me to. I hope i will hold it together better the next time.
It's funny how much more excited i get when trad hunting as opposed to shooting with the wheels.
Congrats!
A hearty congratulations to you! Thanks for sharing your story. :clapper:
Fun ain't it...I like them that size, something I can drag out by myself. The eating is just spectacular at that age....I'm tasting those backstraps as I type...Congrats :clapper:
Congrats! Looks tasty.
A big congrats on your first!!
Thank you all and good luck you you this season.
Congrats on your first of many!
Nice work. I can't wait to get mine!
Great hunting story. Congrats. Still looking for my first traditional kill also.
Nice! And lets put it that way a smaler doe make for a smaller target, that make it a toughter kill!!
And better a small doe than a squirel meat wise!
Good deer kill, but I don't DAP either.
Congrats James :clapper:
The bucks are starting to move a little so now the ice is broken and you will now what to do when a buck comes buy. :goldtooth:
