A lot of planning went into this first hunt in a stand for Cade...
We got in plenty early, and before it was even light, he'd fallen asleep...don't worry he was strapped in!
Just when it was barely light enough to see outlines against the ground, a buck came in right under us. I woke Cade up, and even though it was pretty dark, he got his sleepy eys focused enough to make it out.
I looked through my Leica's and could make out a small basket with 7-8pts. He walked away.
Cade was struggling staying awake...

Looks like a great time in the autumn deer woods.
Time to strip down. Teaching him right off the bat the importance of scent control. We never wear our cloths or boots anywhere but the woods. He has an unscented cloths bin just like I do for all his cloths, harness, and pack...

We didn't see a thing in the afternoon(75 deg. when we walked in), but we sure had a great time. Hard for me to capture in words what this day meant to me... A lot of good times ahead for us

Cool, Curt.
Will he be running the video camera for you when the shot happens?
Good on ya brother! I cherish my time with my son in the woods more than anything! Those DS's are a great way for them to pass the time!
Good going! That is how to start them.
Great post and pics ... your young son will be telling these stories of his dad taking him hunting long after I am gone from this earth.
Good job dad
Thank you, realy inspiring!
:campfire: :campfire: :campfire:
I am always delighted to see the good relation you have with Cade.I would my son could share my love for bowhunting.
Your posts always hold my interest. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent Curt. You're right about always remembering these times together. My own son is out of college and still says "Thanks" whenever we spend time time together in the woods, just as he did when he was little. That goes to show how important what you're doing is to the little guy. Nice two person set-up by the way. Enjoy these good times together and thanks for sharing with us.
Great pics Curt!!!
Ain`t it something how good they sleep the evening after a good days hunting?
My wife says it soothes their soul, and they relax to their very middle.
The "great times ahead" you mention, are going to knock your socks off!!!
You are a good man. Thanks for sharing your hunt with Cade. I always enjoy your pics and your posts. I just wish I could have got my daughter interested in our pursuit. She likes camping, though, so she is a little bit "outdoorsy". Keep the pics coming throughout the season.
Awesome!!!
Awsome!! It is very great to see the young ones in the woods, growing up with the passion for them.
God Bless,
Nathan
Great post Curt.
Curt, great pics and congrats on a great day afield with your son :campfire:
Many, many more ....
Heh Guru,
Yes, Mason and I always take a practice shot out of the stand too..... usually a 175gr hammer headed for a skwerl that ventures too close ! So far this year it is skwerls 3 hunters 0 ! If I am not careful Mason will hunt skwerls and forget about the deer. He talked me into shooting a few broadheads last year after he missed with his first two hammers. He almsot had a empty quiver foolin with them old skwerls !
What is Cade's setup ? What bow, arrows, and head ? What size boots is he wearing ? I have Mason's Rocky 800gr boots he wore about 4 times before he outgrew them when he was 8 years old. They are size 7 mens and they are yours if they will fit Cade. I bought them from brother DW's store and I think they were about around $75, so a good boot to keep Cade's feet warm.
That roughing it pic is awsome..
Very nice report. You have certainly sowed the seeds properly to have a lifelong hunting partner and friend.
That's great Curt. Hope you can connect with Cade in the tree with ya this year!
Very cool!
Wow....used to do the same thing with my son who is now off to college...enjoy the moment, kids grow up so fast.
Curt,
There is one pic where it looks like Cade is catching up real fast to being the same height as you...He's in one of those growing spurts I believe..Like always great pics and keep up the good work...God Bless...Keefer's <")))><
That's what it's all about right there...those are some priceless memories. I know when I think about when I first started bowhunting with my Dad, it takes me back and puts a smile on my face.
Take your son hunting and you won't be hunting for your son.
One of the first times he was in the woods with me.
I told him here's the deal...you can come, but you have to walk all by yourself the whole time....
As you can see, he didn't hold up his end of the deal...but I wouldn't have had it any other way...
