My class is making cedar arrows, and we got the first ones done and flying today! We started with cedar shafts from 3Rivers, and they marked them and cut them to length. Then they did the tapers, the staining (Oh, boy! What a mess!), and the dipping. That was all in the last two weeks. Today, after the weekend, they were ready for nocks, points, feathers and shooting! I think they've completed about nine, with one already having to be retired due to getting a chunk shot out of it. All told, there will be thirty-six, including the unfortunate arrow. They've learned about correct nock orientation, and about the intricacies of super glue. Anyway, the arrow flinging has begun in ernest every spare moment when real study and school work doesn't get in the way! We chose to install blunts for ease of locating them on the oval (shooting milk bottles).

Good for you Ben for introducing the youth into this heritage. Not sure that would go over well in a lot of school's over here. Keep us posted on their progress.
