I want to get back on the ground hunting, this is the last year of stand hunting for me. Just hearing to many people getting hurt, I broke an ankle 10 years ago, back when I was younger and thought I was invincible.
Anyways reading all these ghillie posts and I want one, but I don't like blindly ordering something online, I'm a touch and feel type. I went to an army surplus store last week and found a string ghillie for $75, was happy with the price, tried it on and oh my, I felt like big foot ! Furry strings all over. It would be great cover, but them strings would cause problems on the arms and face mask getting into the bowstring, I would need a weedwacker to trim the dang thing. I have been reading about one called Bush in a bag, does it need modification so the suit does not get cought in the bow ?
Sorry for a repeat post on ghillie's but I just want to know the truth about trimming them and problems with bow string catching in them. I don't need to spend another $100 on something To hang in the closet. I think they are the way to go, don't need to be sold on them, but do want to know the truth about bow string issues. The truth is.. you have to trim them and I use an old tube sock over my bow arm and an arm guard.
They are worth the effort.

dan d - The bush n a bag might require a touch of alteration, but I have shot mine without and had very little issues. If you click on bush n a bag on my website, you will find a link to a shootingg video I did while whearing it. I later trimmed a little. It took about 1 1/2 minutes to alter to my liking. Maybe not that long. Works great and under your money figure including shipping.

I have had a Rancho Safari for at least 10 years and wouldnt sell it for anything. It took some tweaking and trimming, plus an old tube sock as Mudd suggested. A buddy and I both got one the same day and went back to his place. I put mine one and pulled my bow back, he trimmed as needed. I returned the flavor and we are both still happy!
i liked mine but went with an ASAT3d suit.. ga weather isn't very ghillie friendly
I bought a tcs suit from cabelas last year and am very happy have had deer at very close distances and no recognition.It is also very light and does not over heat you.
I'm lovin my leafy suit from Wallyworld. 2pc top and bottom for $49, Remington brand. After trimming a few leaves off my bow arm breast area i get no interference at all. Wear it while practicing now. The top part has a hood. It also has a screen mesh coving the face, i cut that off because a hate looking thru mesh.
There is no doubt they have to be trimmed but that is not a problem. Trim inside arm and along chest area where problems might exist. Make sure you trim it for standing, sitting and kneeling shots, and please practice shooting with it on before heading to the woods. I use a standard armguard with mine and have never had a problem. Just for the record, I have a Rancho Safari "Longcoat" with matching facemask and hat. Really like the quality that Rancho Safari puts into their product.
Thanks for the advice ! I have been reading all the ghillie post and it's a no brainer they look like very good camo cover, just was concerned about which brand was best suited for bow hunting as far as string catching issues. Thanks again, off to check out Big Jim's website.
dan d-don't forget to check out the "sportsman guide'. they have a nice ghillie poncho for a very reasonable price of about $60. I think with the poncho you have some more options as far as adapting to your environment etc.! good luck!

I know that feeling,just to much material for me. I think they are a great way of concealment,just not for me. Had conventional camo on last night and had a doe come by at 6 yards,and two others just slightly further.Good luck with your decision.
