Finally a good morning to hunt coincided with a day off work!!
On the way down the road, does were were running around all over the place... I figured that had to be a good sign! Got to my treestand, got dressed and was settled in about 15 min. before shooting light. This is a new spot I put up on public land in a good stand of oaks, and which gives me a good vantage point to overlook the area. The feeding sign is definitely there, but was having a hard time picking out the trails to it. SO I decided to set up and watch a time or 2 and find where the critters are coming from--maybe have to adjust/ move again.
Early morning was a bust.....but lots of little critters to watch. Finaly, about 9 am ----some excitement:I spotted a NICE 10 pt. with another smaller buck with him about 40 yds behind me. They walked around munching acorns and I watched as they ambled on down the hill away from me. A bit later, I caught a spike walking up the hill behind me about 20 yds away. He walked up a ways, then turned and galloped right back down the way he came. Not sure what that was about; tail wasn't up----just went racing back in the direction of the bucks earlier. Caught sight of another set of antlers about a 1/2hr. later, but couldn't really make out much in the brush.
Might have been a good day to stay out all day, but.......things to do and was getting hungry already. I've been busted once by a grumbling stomach w/a buck below me. The curious look on his face whane he looked up at me was comical!! He never did make me out, but 3x he looked up after a tummy rumbling and I think he just got fed-up with not being able to figure it out :D
Going back out there this afternoon, to see ifany deer are actively feeding there. If not, I may have to move this stand down closer to where the bucks were coming and going......
Shoot straight, all >>>---------->
Good luck.
Headin out this evening.
good luck, ben! keep your nose into the wind! lol

Hey Ben. Saw 3 different bucks this morning but they were just feeding. Good luck tonight keep us posted.

Cant wait to go in the morning again,Sounds like a great morning.Hope you get him :archer2:
Good luck Ben. Hope to see a story soon! :wavey:
That figures. Had to work this morning and have a charity benefit to go to tonight.
Went the am, saw a small 8, should say a small 8 saw me first. Needless to say that was over very quickly. Going out in a few minutes and try again in another spot.
I did a bit of light rattling yesterday in the a.m. and had a 130" buck about run me over. I would not have even tried to rattle, but the area is loaded with rubs and scrapes. I can see 30 rubs from my stand and 4 different scrapes. Great fun!
good luck to you brother.they got me working 7 days a week, steve
nothing going tonight....not even the annoying little chipmunks were moving.
I think Mon. i'm gonna move the stand a little closer to the action. Besides, I found a funnel area that is over-run with trails/tracks. missed it before. Something is going to happen in that area-----I can FEEL it!! :bigsmyl:
Probably all those Ohio crossbow hunters have the deer running and ducking everywhere. :bigsmyl: Our buck activity is picking up North of you also. Good luck.
Was a fun day here. Saw three does this morning (from a distance) and four more does / two bucks this evening from VERY close. No shot opportunities but they were all over me.
The one buck was a young forkie but he was already chasing one of the does (who seemed to want nothing to do with him).
Heck of a day - I'm ready for another.
I didn't stay in the house tonight. I was feeling a bit rough and was thinking about staying in and just watching football. I figured, however, that I could sit in a tree while not feeling well. Sure enough, I shot a young forkie tonight just before dark. I have to wait until morning to pick up the trail. I know I hit him back, so I backed out and left him until morning. Sleepless night ahead. I will pick up the trail first thing.
Saw a giant 10 point at about 100 yards while walking out of the woods. He was with 7 or 8 other deer and made them all look tiny body wise.
The squirrels were going crazy and had me on high alert the whole time. I saw a dozen or better squirrels tonight.
Good luck in the morning buckeye-hunter!! Hope you get him before the 'yotes do!
Around here it's very dicey leaving a deer overnight----but, you gotta do what you gotta do with a shot like that.
You guys had better night tahn me---not even the squirrels were about and I was in the middle of acorn heaven :(
One little spike and 4 does tonight...great night, anytime you see some deer and you are out relaxing enjoying nature, it doesn't get any better than that!
It was a good morning down here in Perry County in SE Ohio as well.
Had a doe come across the hill about 40 yards out. She was on a slow feed as she moved right to left across the hill, her flag about half raised the whole time.
I was watching her through my binocs when I caught sight of another deer that came in from the left. It turned out to be a 8pt. He started to follow her around and every time he tried to play grab-fanny with her, she would scoot off about 10-15 yards in front of him. This went on for about 15 minutes and then they headed over the hill.
About 10 o'clock, I started to get out of my chair and saw 2 does coming over the hill. No shots as they never came closer than about 30 yards. As always, it's fun to watch and observe.
Evening hunt was a bust as far as seeing deer goes. It was a little on the windy side. I must have watched 10 different squirrels.
A list of honey-do's to knock out after church on Sunday, so I probably won't get back out until Tues. or Weds. evening.
Good luck, Ohioites!
Good luck, Charlie!
