Title: HSS-300 Ultra-Lite harness Safety Recall
Post by: Clint B. on October 15, 2010, 08:04:00 PM
I got a letter today from Bass Pro Shops saying this vest I recently bought from them has been safety recalled. The problem is I already gave away my used HSS vest harness to a relative. I hadn't even opened up the package on my new harness because I tried one on at BPS & I'm not going hunting for another week. Anyway, I can't call HSS to ask questions until they open up on Monday. The way I read the notice, the problem is that the rention pins in the carabiners can inadvertently detach and let you fall to the ground. That can't be good! I think this includes the carabineers on both the climbing strap (which I don't really need) and the tree strap (which I obviously do need). Any of you folks using the 2010 HSS-300 Ultra-Lite? I suppose we'll need to send in our carabineers for replacements because they say to stop using ours immediately. I wonder how long this exchange will take? I'm just wondering if I should go ahead and buy a cheap harness for my first hunt next weekend.

I should mention that I like the HSS harnesses & I'm looking forward to hunting with my HSS-300 Ultra-Lite. Any company can have a problem with a batch of bad parts. In hindsight, I guess I should've kept my old harness as a spare, but my relative needed a full-body harness and I had two.

TTT, just once for Ultra-Lite users who haven't heard about the recall.

As it turns out, I won't need to buy anything to hunt next weekend. I opened up the package and the tether loop just slips around the tree strap like my last HSS vest so I can use it as is.  Two carabiners are for attaching the climbing harness and the third carabiner is for attaching a new gizmo called the suspension relief strap. Since my last harness had neither of these features, I can do without them until I get my replacement hardware from HSS.

Thanks to Bass Pro Shops for notifying me about the safety recall. Otherwise, I would've been leaning back on those climbing harness carabiners next weekend. Clint
