Well..today I told her good bye for now. Put my Hoyt Compound bow in her case and told her that I might not be seeing her from awhile.
Been shooting my recurve around two hours a day..with breaks in between. Man..it feels so much better.
Like a perfect golf swing when you are on.
The Hoyt has been good to me..many animals harvested with it..but this Traditional stuff is like awesome.
Good for you!
I did the same thing about a year ago, and have never looked back.
Use the search function on this site for just about any question you might have..tons of info.
I'm with you, the feel of shooting a trad bow is sooo much cooler than one of those mechanical thingies!
I've had mine in the case for a while but I think it's time for me to find someone to sell it to because I'm really wanting another one of Big Jim's masterpieces.
Congradulations!
:archer2:
Don't open the case again---there's evil temptation in there---LOL-you're gonna miss sometimes with the sticks but when you connect it's a hunt you'll never forget!!!!!!
Since 1975 I've had at least one compound bow. Today at 10:30am I met a young fireman in the parking lot of Walmart. He is now the owner of my only compound. I'm surrounded by recurve bows now. Obviously I've scratched my plan to hunt with a recurve in KY and compound in Indiana!
After 2 years of having it in the case, and getting it back out here and there... this past spring, I sold my BowTech Patriot and I haven't looked back. Now, all I'm shooting is an Apex Predator 66" Cumberland 52#@28" longbow and have recently gotten a Fedora 52" Stalker 46#@28" recurve. It's like I found my niche... I love it! There's no turning back!
Put mine in it's case about a year ago. Cant say im missing it all to much. This :archer2: trad thing is addictive. I put meat in the freezer for the first time last week with my recurve, cant imagine any reason why I would go back to the wheels.
Good for you! Keep enjoying the ride. I put my compound in it's case (and got rid of it) in 1983.
good for you buddy.good luck with your recurve, steve
Sold my last compound at online auction last week after almost three years of collecting dust. It's not even a matter of "liking" a recurve or longbow better; they ARE better hunting tools in my opinion. Non-compound bows are much faster at getting a shot off and infinately less likely to suffer an equipment malfunction of one sort or another. Add simpifying your life to the list and it's a slam dunk.
All smiles for you!
The compounds seem to radically change in looks from one year to the next. I guess that's to make you think the one you have now is outdated so you'll buy a new one. :) I gave up on compounds when they still had slotted recurved wood/glass limbs and round wheels. I have nothing against compounds at all. They just weren't for me. Likewise, I still prefer the round ball replica muzzlelaoaders with buckhorn sights over the modern scoped bullet shooting in-line muzzleloaders.
Congrats you do not need the wheels and it is much more satisfying!!
MARK :archer: :archer2:
Both of my compound bows have been in their cases and haven't seen the light of day since 2005.
put mine in its case but made sure it was stil in tune just in case!
 That's good news!
Quiting compounds must be much easier than to quit smoking. You would think TG would have 100,000 members.
Who would believe you, if you said, that you quit smoking and yet you keep a fresh pack of cigs in the top drawer of your bedside table?
Traditional archery begs commitment.
Good on you.
When my uncle quit smoking, he carried an unopened pack of cigarettes in his pocket for the next 20 years. I imagine they got kind of stale...
I quit shooting compounds many years ago and never looked back!I see my old ones still hanging on their holders and from time to time i see some broken strings or cables. What a nightmare would be to retune them every 10 or so days.Well my 50 years old Bear just need a simple string and are ready to go in seconds.
