Anyone make their own? not the "strap-on tree" type just the sit on ground type.
may have lost my "Nif-T-Seat" and too cheap to buy a new one! loved how compact it was and would like to make something similiar if possible.
I made a seat for duck hunting that I use I took a 2" x 36" square stock and added a hing to the top and that mounted to a 3/4" plywood cut to fit inside the seats that swivel and go over the 5 gal buckets. then used a screen door latch to hold the leg secure when sitting on it. It folds up flat when not in use.
Dr. Ken Nordberg's... "whitetail hunter's almanac" # 7
great stool for the DIYer
Here's the one I made. It rotates 360 degrees and stands alone when I stand up off of it.
God bless,Mudd

Hey Mudd - can you give more details on how you made this, materials etc? thx cjw
Good post ! I have been looking myself for a very easy to carry seat. Some on the auction site from internationall seller (england) for $60 (that counts shipping) it is a stake with a small foldable seat, kinda pricy, but I want something very portable. I use a cat quiver and cannot strap a seat on my back and to carry it makes it tough to go stalking around the woods prior to sitting.
Very good post, I will be watching this one.
Dan
Just checked out the Nif T Seat you mentioned, I like that !
I made one looks kinda simular to Mudds. I used a peice of aluminum conduit for the one leg with a floor flange on both ends peice of plywood screwed on for the seat with padding. Plugged the bottom with a peice of dowel and installed a peice of 5/16 round steel rod about 6 inches long in the plug. The rod sticks in the ground and keeps it from falling over when you stand up. The bottom floor flange keeps it from going too deep into the ground. Add a shoulder strap and you are done.
I use all kinds.Leave most at my sites. But carry folding fishing chair(light, small). In case I want to move.Add a couple foam seats which I also carry put on top the fishing chair.I've carried it them for years.
leather factory/Tandy have a 3 legged stool kit and also sell the legs seperately. Good stool. I used it a lot when my back was really screwed up. Frank
I guess I could get it and measure the pieces but when I built it I just put it together from stuff I had laying around, then by looking and deciding what looked about right.
I have been thinking of adding a back to it.
God bless, Mudd
Mudd, please do that! Exactly what I need for the ghillie!!!
I used a plastic milk carton and cut a 5/8 piece of plywood over the bottom or closed end.Drilled some holes in the plastic latticework and screwed it in from underneath. Make sure the screws are short enough. Rounded and sanded the edges. Put a coat of varnish too
It's light and quiet and you can carry stuff in it. Strong too. Will sit a good size guy.
I leave it in the blind and put my foam hunting seat on it and I'm all set. Good height for sitting in the blind too. Cost me nothing but some old lumber, varnish etc.
don't varnish it if you're going to use it now. Deer will smell that. Do it after the season.
good luck

I like the Nifty Seat and have had it for years.
Seems a couple of us find that once you've "set" on it a while, it won't come apart without a good set of tools to crank it apart.
Only other comment is that perhaps due to my build or getting old/fat(er) :) ...but after about an hour sitting in that thing, everything goes numb below my belt to my knees! Love how it rotates easily and is easy to set up. Stout, but light just means it would break.
Just hate the numbness for longer sits!
