Title: scripture on a bow
Post by: Matt Green on October 12, 2010, 05:54:00 PM
Have noticed a lot of personalized things written on bow limbs (name, message, etc).  Am wondering what Biblical scriptures you have on a bow, have seen on a bow or think would 'fit' on a bow.  If you have any, post the scripture and the references.
thanks

Psalm 91:5.  I wrote the verse along an ipe lamination using a quill pen and India ink on the BBO I built:

S0me archery-related Scripture passages:

And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. --- Genesis 21:20

But God himself will shoot them with his arrows, suddenly striking them down. --- Psalm 64:7

As arrows [are] in the hand of a mighty man; so [are] children of the youth. --- Psalm 127:4

There are others...

This is not hunting related but is a Proverb that I have repeated to myself many times in my life when things happen that I don't understand.

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in a man's heart,
but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.

I named my Black Widow "Boanerge", which is what Jesus called James and John from Mark 3:17 meaning "Son of Thunder".

Isaiah 40:31 has always been a favorite for me.  Psalms 118:8 is also one of my favorites and of course, my signature.
I use the King James Version, sounds poetic and solid.

I just read this verse this morning and thought it would be an appropriate Scripture on a bow or in an archery related signature.

"But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God...."  Genesis 49:24

"In His name"

I'm not sure, this may not be a scripture verse, probably a phrase one says in closing to prayer.

A friend of mine put on most of his "all-wood" bows.

Raging Waters,
I have to know what your signature means---"Jesus did not tap!" Forgive my ignorance on this. I've been wondering what this means since I first read one of your posts.

Thanks
Roy

I saw this on a friend's tee shirt, and asked him what it means.  He explained that he was in martial arts, and when someone is down and wants to give up, they tap the floor and the other person is supposed to let them up.  The saying means that Jesus doesn't give up.

Maybe it has something to do with the "knock and the door shall be opened". Thus implied to being assertive and confident. Just a guess.

while i'm at it, how 'bout Psalm 16:8 "I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken."

Dan,

I am a Martial Artist. I started Boxing when I was 12 and won Golden Gloves when I was 14 and 15 in San Antonio TX. I have fought many times, mostly in the ring. A bunch of wins and some losses. I have a few Black Belts and one in Gracie Brazilian JuJitsu.

"Tapping Out" is to say "Uncle" when you are being choked to death and can't say "Uncle". Or when someone is about to break your arm or leg and you can't scream "Uncle" due to the pain.

I have "Tapped out" many men and, also, I have been "Tapped out".

Jesus did not Tap! He endured all our pain and all our sin. JESUS did NOT TAP!!!!

By the way, I am really a nice guy at heart. Really, I swear! I just like to throw leather whenever I get the chance.

This is just good stuff here, it really blows my mind the spiritual side many have in this hobby, makes me feel good to be part of this. I used to be a closet Christian, I have slowly matured (very slowly, I'm 48 and just coming out of the closet) seeing everyone here express themselves this way has helped me come out of the closet, now I want something on my bow ! Very good post !

Although I have never been a devout "Church Goer" I am a solid Christian and have never made any secrets about it. Far too many times in my life I could have been dead and forgotten about if it weren't for God's intervention, I also believe he sent angels to look over me in the worst of the worst points, I honestly believe that with all my heart and I'll share my stories with anybody who ever cares to listen.

Mine is right under all my posts in my signature..........

I bought a used bow and to my surprise it had "Revelation 6:2" written on the lower limb. The verse doesn't have a special meaning to me like some of the other posts on this thread but as a Christ follower it was a nice surprise when I opened the package when the bow arrived.

Terry,

I was thrilled when I asked Craig Ekin if he had any Christian silver inlays. He said, "I got a Silver Cross". I had know idea what it was going to look like. I was more than impressed with the style of the Cross. I couldn't be more pleased.

I know this is a fairly old thread, I ran into it a while back. I just ordered my first custom bow from Maddog  Archery. A couple of years ago I ran into a verse in 1 Chronicles 8:40 that says " The sons of Ulam were mighty men of valor- Archers" . So I asked Mike to put that name and reference on the bow . The bow is going to be a 60' longbow(my first) 48 lb @26

None on any of mine . . . though sometimes I suspect a part of Exodus 20: 3-17 is there somewhere:

"Thou shall not kill"
