Title: Fletching, left or right??
Post by: David Yukon on October 13, 2010, 12:27:00 PM
I was just over at the "Let see some fletching" thread and made me think, what are your thoughts on left or right wing fletching? Does it make a difference(I know that if you use 2 blades BH, you should match the bevel to the fethers..) but other than that?? Should right handed fletch left and vice versa?

Matters not in MOST cases. Single bevel BH's is something I know nothing about.

As Pearl Drums said it really doesn't matter. I fletch rt. helical except for one longbow I have. If I fletch rt. for that the feathers sometimes hit my finger so I just fletch arrows for that bow left helical. Ive never saw any difference in the flight.

No difference, with the above stated exceptions.

Shoot both but know nothing of single bevel heads. Zwikey and Magnus heads fly straight with either though I stick to one thru the season only switching during summer practice.

I shoot both and can tell no difference at all. Sometimes I even have both in my quiver when out shooting for fun......Randy

No difference for me.  I shoot both regularly, why waste half of the feathers off the turkeys I shoot?

As stated above the only time I care is when I'm shooting single bevel broadheads.

The only time I've seen a difference was a particular bow I had with a low shelf and I was prone to getting cuts on the web of my hand from the occasional ragged front edge of the cock fletch.  Switching to left helical fixed it, but other alternativces would have as well.

With single bevel BH you need to match right to right & left to left. This is because of the rotation of the arrow. Other than that it makes no difference.

Have shot both right and left handed bows the right wing feathers cut my bow hand on both style so I must shoot left wing.

when shot out of a shooting machine there is no difference in left or right helical.  The arrows will hit side by side or in the same hole.

Shooting style generally dictates what you like. As others have stated with the fletch hitting the hand, or if you have a high anchor a left wing feather will go up your nose if you are right handed.

My personal preference as a right handed shooter is left wing. My bows are cut very low to the hand and shooting right wing makes me get the band-aids out. I find I get better clearence with lefts.
