Title: Gateway Shield Cut feathers
Post by: bmfer on May 22, 2007, 10:24:00 PM
I bought 5" shield cut feathers to fletch arrows for my Savannah. Left wing, left helic. They LOOK great, but fly like crap. I fletch 5" parabolic and have awesome flight, no problems. The parabolics are ok, but I really like the look of the shield cut, anybody else have this problem?

I have the same fletching as you have but I don't have problems with my arrows, they fly like darts.
I posted a video clip called: Shooting at a 3-d White tail (19 May, 2007). Here you can see them fly in slow motion as well.

Unless your feathers are really misaligned with the shaft they are not your problem. I strongly suggest you bareshaft them and see how your arrows really fly. Frank

I have shot Banna, Shield, Parabolic, and T-hawks. never saw a difference. seems strange.

The difference in cut is not the cause of the poor arrow flight.  I'd look to arrow spine, nock straightness.
