How much cartilage do I need to leave in the ears of a coyote, or do I need to remove all of it? It seems difficult to get it all out. That skin is so fragile.
Depends on what you are going to do with the skin. But you want to at least seperate the skin from the cartilage on the back of the ear, then tan.The front of the ear is usally harder to seperate. If you are mounting it with the cartilge attached to the front of the ear you could then use bondo and fiberglass fill. Hope this helps.
I am not an expert on tanning but I usually just cut flush with skull and tan. Have not had any troubles.
I'm just going to make a quiver out of it. I've cut the ears flush with the skull.
I really admire someone who can skin one quickly.
