Here is a E-mail I received from someone named Seun George wanting to purchase my bow from the Trad gang classifieds. the post should be read from the bottom up since it is a e-mail reply.
Hello,
I am in receipt of your details, and will make sure the payment is mailed out to you immediately. But first, I will want to let you know that an extra fees will be on the payment that will be mailed out to you, and that you will have to deduct your asking price, and then wire the rest of the money to the shipper via western union money transfer, and as soon as the shipper receives the fund, they will in return get in touch with you, and arrangement will be made on how and when the item will be picked.
Furthermore, If OK with the arrangement, please kindly get back to me immediately, so that the payment can be mailed out to you immediately.
Thanks

Seun, The Bow is still for sale. I would rate the bow @ a 8 1/2 out of 10. the leather grip is worn but the finish on the bow is very good. If you have any questions you can call me @ 570-294-9218. If you want the Bow my Address is.

Subject: I am interested
Hello,
I came across your Big River HIll Style longbow 68" 57# @ 28 on the internet {www.tradgang.com), and would want to let you know that, I am very much interested in buying the item. So please, I will need you to kindly get back to me with present condition of the item and also pics of the item, and that my mode of payment is via cashier check. So, If still interested in selling the item to me, kindly get back to me, as soon as possible.
I await your response.
Best Regards
SEUN GEORGE
I had the same thing from this person. It is a scam. Ken
Classic scam.
Guy
SCAM for sure! Report it and move on....
Thanks....he registered and ran to the classifieds....red flag for sure....banned.
It's a scam,I recieved the same email, twice with different names.
99% of the time if the person refers to what you are selling as "the item" multiple times it's because it's a scam. A generic email is produced and they just fill in the blank in one spot. That way it's less work and can be sent to many victims in shorter time. If I were going to buy your bow I would say I was interested in your bow not "the item". A lot of people have been getting these lately.
Pitiful!
He must have confused himself with writing how he was gonna pay for it.I was confused reading it.
I'm gonna start selling buck logs in brown bags, guaranteed to make your hunt memorable! Maybe he will buy some.

Earl Jeff....Thanks for putting these kinds of things up. It gives me a heads up :readit:
Atta Boy Terry
I hate them.I have read elsewhere they are from Africa.
Thank you, Thank you, thank you. He sent me an offer to buy my Kohannah and wanted to pay with a cashiers check. I told him that I would rather have a money order and when I asked where he was from, I got no reply!!! I have done many transactions on this site and this is the first one like this......Let the buyer and the seller beware. Thanks again for the heads up!! ron w
But Terry is been fast to pull him out of the door.
You would think these idiots could get more crafty than that, got the same response on a Titan riser I was selling.
You'd think they would come up with a better scam if their doing this for a livin!
Got one too on a bow I have for sale. Got a PM and responded to PM but not his email address.
Hang him,,Thx Terry and for the heads up all...idiots
it's a scam for sure....how about a traditional drawing and quartering? lol
Good that he is banned. Beware folks there are several others. They have been hitting the *********** pretty hard under various aliases.(nut)
Smells fishy to me for sure.
Smells fishy.....and that fish has been laying out in the hot sun for a few days!
I also got one first thing this morning and notified Admin folks right off.
i had almost the exact same thing happen to me.i had an Impala antelope shoulder mount for sale on craigslist.guy said he wanted it but sent me an $1800 dollar check saying deduct the $350 for the mount and wire the rest to some other country
and then they would arrange for their personal moving company to come pick the "Item" up.ended up being a bad check of course.what a waste of time.Ross
Bummer, I was getting ready to sell my Pronghorn wall mount on there, for some extra moving doe,, Not now thanks boys, Have to find a better way. Just dont need these kinda problems, Thx again fellas
I think we all should be thankful they are so obviously not legit buyers and not very polished in their attempts.
This kind of stuff has been circulating for years now and should not be a surprise to anyone who sells stuff on the internet.
And it comes from everywhere, not just Africa. I get it on my C-L ads from local (US) persons.
Joshua
A guy just has to be careful no matter where he is dealin. Thanks Terry.
This type of scam is one of the oldest ones on the internet. I just can't believe that they cruise the classifieds here at Trad Gang? I know the economy is bad...but dang! It's not like there's a major turn over of goods here and this place is fairly exclusive to a select group of people, I mean not everybody is interested in traditional archery tackle and I wonder just how they came to find this place anyway?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's not a whole lot of traffic that comes through here.....at least not like Craig's List and the Classifieds here doesn't come out in the Sunday paper. :dunno:
It's an old scam and works best on greedy or ignorant sellers.
People must still fall for it though.
Sending bogus emails from a free or hijacked account is dirt cheap. If those guys get one hit for every thousand emails they send they probably think they're doing pretty good.
There is a site that covers these, and other, scams pretty good. The 419 Eater (http://www.419eater.com/) is a great site for learning how to avoid, and sometimes how to antagonize, these scam artists.

Any time I sell something online, I delete any reply that doesn't ask specific questions about what I am selling. I figure if it is a real person that is interested in what I have, they will ask questions about it. I also delete any response wanting me to click on a link.
I think you should have some fun with him/her. Say will ship Bagels, two jars pickles and one bag onions ASAP. Please send payment!
I haven't had this happen to me in quite a while, but I keep reading about them more frequently. If it happens again, I suggest having them rush payment to you right away, and when it arrives, just forward it to the FBI or rip it up and toss it. I forwarded mine to the FBI and they were happy to take care of it. If everyone that this happens too, request express payment from them and just tosses it when it arrives, eventually its going to cost them a bundle in shipping from Nigeria. The joke will be on them.
I like to mess with these people and usually send them back a question pertaining to our field like "What is your draw length" and of course that usually the last you hear from them. Some are persistent though and will send you a reply like "Oh I'm buying this for not me but a gift to my family friend." Hahaha.
I would like to meet with this person and show them the error of their ways :knothead:
I like the idea of having them send payment through the mail...it costs them a good bit of money.
If everyone did that, then tore up the check it would end the practice eventually.
Great idea.
Don't tear the check up, take it to the Post Master General and US Attorney and start mail fraud actions
You can also report this kind of stuff to IC3.
www.ic3.gov (http://www.ic3.gov)
Well, since 99% of these originate outside the United States, you can forget a mail fraud investigation. This happens all over the web, with everything from cars to golf clubs. It's an old scan and far too many people fall for it.
Don't ever respond to anyone who offers to send you more than you are asking for an item if you will refund the balance or part of the balance. You will lose your item and your cash if you do so. The "cashies check" or "money order" you receive will be fraudulent and you will be the guy left holding the empty sack.
string the S.O.B up and let'em swing.
string the S.O.B up and let'em swing

I've done it before. Check was on a bank in Ohio with a Bogus routing #. I gave the check to a friend who is a detective at our local PD. The guy called me a few times and even threatened me. I had some fun with him and kept stringing him along through 3 or 4 phone calls. Finally, I got tired of it and gave him the detectives name and the phone # to our local PD. Told him to call them first, but they might refer him to the FBI. :biglaugh:
