My wife started her vacation today so I stayed home working on her "list" for most of the day today. But by 4:00 or so I must have finaly got on her nerves cause she said "shouldn't you be hunting or something and not irritating me" it was then that I knew my plan was working!
I didn't have a lot of time but made a drive and set up on my little Torgges seat on a fencerow and settled in.
It didn't take long and I saw a couple deer working there way towards me coming across a picked bean field.

Pictures are rough as I was taking them with my cell phone.
In the picture above the little steaks on hooves was about 35 yards out or so and heading right for me.
It was warn, very warm probably close to 80 degrees and I had a decision to make. Did I want to mess with a deer tonight in this heat? I pondered over it for a good while trying to decide all the time with the deer getting closer to my hiding spot in the fencerow between a picked bean field and a CRP field.
well ya cant just leave it like that no fair :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:
The first deer to come by me was a little 7 pointer, he just wasn't what I was after as I was hunting barely across the state line in Indiana where there is a one buck rule. He passed me at about 8 yards orso and crossed into the CRP field.
There were more deer coming though and I was still wrestling with the though of it being so warm. I hate dealing with meat in the heat.
As the next deer got within 20 yards of me I was still debating. I had plenty of doe tags and the freezer is really low on venison. I knew it was suppose to cool down tonight into the upper 40's but i was still wrestling with it. Should I shoot a doe? I knew if i did she would be fine overnight but I would be butchering in the morning instead of chasing bucks!
Decisions............Decisions.........
I told myself if I get a perfect shot shot oppurtunity at 15 yards or less that I would do it.
Dennis ......... I can't wait.
  and
With the deer at less than 20 yards I figured I better dig an arrow out of the old plains quiver. I really was prepared here..........
I managed to pull my lucky arrow out without getting noticed. Well more lucky broadhead than arrow, a 64 bear razorhead that is a veteran times 4!
The sun had set and it was getting more shadowy by the moment. I had one of those fancy lighted knocks on this particular arrow and this is the first time I had actually hunted with one of those thingys.........
I had shot it at a coon shoot on 3D targets ealier this summer and got to admit it's pretty cool to see a green blur heading to a target!
That's it ! ...... now spill the beans
The deer was coming straight at me maybe 15 yards out, I figured it was gonna walk straight into my lap faceing me from the direction it was coming.
But at about 12 yards or so it decided to feed west a bit on some leftover beans giving me a nice little slightly quartering away shot.
I got to say as cool as those lighted knocks are heading for 3D targets at night there even cooler disapearing into the pocket right behind the shoulder on a deer!

Bedtime folks I will get some more pictures and finish this in the morning!

As Paul Harvey would say ....... "and now the rest of the story"
Where are ya Dennis ?
As the deer moved its front leg forward I came to full draw with the 43# Bob Lee longbow and the green blurred lighted nock disapeared into the exact spot I was focusing on then reappeared behind the deer where it flew another 15 yards.
The deer ran to the right low and tight to the ground. I imediatly stood up as I wanted to see where it crossed the fencerow and would head into the CRP field. If you have ever blood trailed in a dry dusty sandy bean stubble field you'll understand that! but by the time I got to my feet the deer was out of sight and I could not hear anything. The woods had been scary silent all evening, no breeze, no rustling of the leaves nothing.
So I walked out to where my arrow was glowing brightly to see it covered in blood. As I was fussing with it trying to turn the lighted nock off I heard thrashing in the fencerow maybe 20 yards from where I was standing.
Crap I figured I had spooked it. But as I looked that direction I could see a small tree bouncing around. I knocked another arrow and slowly walked over that way. When I was about 10 feet away from the moving tree I could se the deer lieing on the ground thrashing around. I immediatly put another arrow in it to be safe then backed away and circled the area heading towards my truck.
After going to pick up a couple buddies and my youngest son we returned in about a hour or so. The young button buck was right where i had last seen/shot it.
The first shot was text book perfect as far as location taking out both lungs. The second shot wasn't needed but I don't regret doing it as I hate to see anything suffer longer than it must. he had only ran about 20 yards from the first shot.
A great young deer for steaks on the grill!
Picture was taken this morning in the back yard guys It's not the best but I had to hurry the process as they are calling for 90 degrees here today!
