Post by: D.Sheppard on October 09, 2010, 10:59:00 PM
Things had been a little slow lately so I decided to try a new color on my arrow.

I like that color much better than the others. I would change them all if I were you.   :saywhat:

Congrats! Give us pics of the kill!!

I'm still waiting for my shot, hopefully it will happen soon.

I hunted the upper end of the farm today in a creek bottom between two corn fields. The section of woods is about 120 yds wide and several hundred yds long. It is without a doubt one of the best little honey holes I have ever hunted.

I eased into this little spot as quiet as you can with a big ol piece of aluminum strapped to your back and got set up about 50 yds off one of the corn fields and about 10 yds off the creek right in an area where there are several crossings.

Finally caught some movement about 6:00 in the corner of the corn field that I knew wasn't a damn squirrel. Two yearlings and a doe were feeding along the edge and coming from that direction I knew they would come to the stream for a drink. I watched them feed along the corn for about 50 or 60 yds and now I was right between them and the water. While the little ones fed on some browse right inside the wood line the doe turned and headed for a drink. She was on a trail that was going to put her just under 20 yds from me.

I knew the shot was going to happen and had to turn just a bit to get into position. She wasn't in a rush and nibbled on anything and everything as she closed the distance. I had been watching the deer for about 20 min and I was starting to get a little fired up. My first shot at a deer this season was seconds away and the line "pick a spot dummy" was going thru my mind. Standing there with the bow ready I glanced at the broadhead on the end of the arrow and it was doing a little dance, I laid a finger on the arrow to steady it and she finally took that last step. I dont remember hitting my anchor but I watched that arrow disappear behind that shoulder. I knew it was good, she wheeled around heading for the safety of the corn field but never made it. The Bear Razorhead did its job and she was down in less that 50 yds.

Henry, don't let her pretty little face fool ya.

It may be zebrawood and only 45# but at about 18 yds that arrow zipped straight thru and still had enough left to stick in the ground.

Oh and the most important part is I shoot it well.

Mountianboy my uncle lived in Gassaway for years, out River Road across from the treatment plant just before you started up the gravel road.
