Well I went out this afternoon to do some turkey scouting. Our Fall turkey season comes in Saturday in Ohio so I thought I would go check out my favorite spot.
I decided I had better take my bow because I had squirrels in the back of my mind also.
Anyway, when I got to the woods I was in a pine thicket. I was taking my time moving really slow. After about an hour of slowly trolling through the woods, I heard something moving, then I saw him. He jumped up on the side of a pine tree and checked out the terrain. I had a clear shot!!!!! I pulled my Zipper back and let an arrow loose. I heard a thump(I had connected); I took off running to get him. It ended up being a mad dash thorough some thick brush. He went around the side of a tree and disappeared.
That is when I saw this and my heart sank.

I stood there looking at the hole, thinking this can't be happening. I bent down took a look into the hole, and was thrilled!!!!
He had just dropped right into the darkness of his den inside the base of this tree.
I pulled him out and headed back to the spot where I had arrowed him.

This was without a doubt one of my greatest moments as a hunter. It was around a 15-20 yard shot. I'm not exactly sure as I was so excited I could not even remember the tree I was standing by.
I have taken two traditional deer, but this gray squirrel has fulfilled a dream!
I also want to thank a few guys......Don Montgomery, thanks for all the help and shooting with me.
Also, Chris Shelton, thanks for the motivation!!!
Whoo that initial heart sink is a terrible feeling!!! But I love it when it ends with a happy ending! Looks like you got some good penetration!!!
Glad I helped with the motivation!!
I have to admit there is Nothing that I enjoy hunting with acrchery equipment then squirrels!
Congradulations man!

They are some frisky little buggers aren't they.great shot!
Looks like you "got 'er done" buddy !!!
As far as thanking me.....the pleasure has truly been all mine. Those weekly (and sometimes more) shooting sessions have surely done us both some good. I've never killed a squirrel with my bow before......but sure hope to put a hole in a white-tail or two this fall.
Besides......the shooting, we sure have solved some "world problems" while we were slingin' arrows too. Now go let the air out of a white-tail or two......YOUR ready !!!

He kicked around till the arrow came out before I could reach him. Upon skinning him it almost went all the way through. Without a doubt one of the worlds toughest critters.
Thanks for all the kind words!!!
Congradulations. Hap

I still enjoy the wonderfull little .22 rifle for squirels. Especially a vintage marlin lever rifle or old win. or remington bolt action.
Easily the toughest animals in North America pound for pound. I have had them run up a tree w/ the arrow through them. It would be like you climbing a ten story building w/ a telephone pole through you. Tough... Good shootin.
Congrats bud
