Title: Question on arrow spine!!!
Post by: Hogdgz on October 05, 2010, 09:54:00 PM
My typical setup is a GT3555 with 100 grain brass insert and 125 grain point or broadhead, giveing a total of 225 up front.

I have been playing around with a standard insert (10 grains) and a 200-225 field point.

It seems like the arrow with the standard insert does not fly as good as the others, weight up front is almost identical, so what I am thinking is the brass insert is longer and goes in the shaft farther which stiffens the arrow a lil more. Also with the brass insert all the weight is not on the very tip of the arrow.

Anyone experimented with this?

I don't think you should make an assessment based on one arrow.

You are correct.  Putting all the weight in the broadhead will make the arrow substantially weaker than putting 100 grains of the weight in the shaft.  You may need to re-tune.
