It's now a go. The website is updated and there is a Facebook group if you're interested. You can get there from the website.
February 19 and 20, 2011 in Jackson, Ohio at the Jackson Bowhunters Club. This is one super nice club with a large heated building and good people. They will have the kitchen open on Saturday and Sunday serving meals. Plenty of parking and camping from primitive to RV (no hook-ups). More info to come as it comes up. The website is the best place to keep up to speed.

LPN,
It is a ways for us "Northern" boys! I can't make the hunt since it is my daughter's birthday. Not to mention it is a long drive even in good weather for us.
Good luck fellas and shoot straight! :readit:
-
Sticshooter made this knife for GORH. I just got it in the mail today and this picture does not do any justice for this knife. It has a sweet leather sideway belt sheath. Someone at GORH is getting a really sweet knife.

Is it my iPhone or does the web page have overlays on it for every one? Hard to read.

-

So far I am planning to take this weekend a little time off. Unless we have some snowstorm that will block the roads or other traffic chaos I will go.
I'll bring my Hwarang and some other backup bows.
But I draw short and my bows are quite heavy.
All around 60+#@26....
I am still looking for a lefty A shawnee riser for the 78#@26" limbs. I need to start to train for the bionic bunny..... :biglaugh:
-
How far do we shoot at the bionic bunny?
-
It'll be close. just depends on where we set it up. Proly 5-7 yards max.
-
Magnus, where exactly are you from? We might possibly have room but I wont know for sure until a bud of mine lets me know if he's going or not.
-
I'm in portage county. Route 44and 224 and 76. Randolph town ship. I could meet any where. She'll drop me off. Thank you for the offer!

Any place in the area to grab a shower. Maybe a cooooooooooooool stream or something. We are camping for sure. And the fire will be open to all!
-
No shower but there is a bathroom where you can wash up.
-
Looks like the solar shower will be coming with us. Probably without the solar! :deadhorse:
-

You might freeze off fewer important bits if you heat some water over the fire and take sponge baths with that rather than the solar(less) shower. For that matter - it's only a day or two and winter time funk isn't as lethal as summer time funk.
:D

Can someone take time to list all sites here on this thread so we can keep up and maybe get to know a few people better before the event?
Just a thought........

My buddys longbowben and leatherneck are STRONGLY encouraging me to go this year. As I just sent the check today for my wesley special, I hope I have some time to practice with it so I don't look totally clueless. They say its a great time though, and I prob will let them twist my arm so I will go. Lol.
-
Come join the fun. This will be my first year but I'm already pumped to go.
Keeping the Faith!
Magnus

Tell him guys, missing is part of the fun. Unlike the training wheel guys, we laugh when we miss.

Um yeah that's it. All of my many misses are due to me still getting used to my HH. Brilliant!
If you aren't clanging arrows off the iron bunny, it's just not as funny as it could be. :D Come to GORH and miss with us!
-
If you miss, don't worry there will be three guys you can blame it on!
-
That's a good one Mike. I'm going to blame it on the magnetic pull of the iron bunny on my steel heads.

GORH officially starts around daybreak Saturday so I just updated the site so folks can come in on Friday and set up camp, hunt, shoot, hang out, whatever. Gonna try real hard to have a campfire Friday night. Bring something to eat and your favorite drink from Coke to Yuengling.
-
I believe me and Irish will be there Friday night. Looking forward to it.
-
Keep the fire going cause I have to wait on my bud. We wont get there until about 9.
-
Yep magnus we'll be there friday, and whos bringin yuengling? I wouldn"t mind buying a sixer if your gettin some. The extra spot in my tent is filled with a giant of a man. LOL but more bodies means less cold air. LMAO plus more fire stoking hands and mouths. Hope it's not to cold.
-
I'm still planning on coming down for this one. Haven't decided on the camping yet. Sounds like fun but I'm not sure my camping setup would be warm enough for the weather.
-
Dont get soft on us RM81
-
Soft? I would think a frozen dead body would be the opposite of soft.
I do enjoy a drink or two so it would make sense to camp.
-
You don't have to sleep, stay up all night and keep the camp fire going.
-
Thats what were are talking about see you thier RM81 :campfire:
-
RM81 since you'll be up tending the fire. Might as well make breakfast as well. Lol! I have a little coleman heater you can borrow. I've used it during deer season before when it's been cold. Not this cold but.
-
I can tend a fire with the best of them, but i don't think you would want to eat anything I cook.
-
Matt if you can burn water it will be a step forward . LOL
-
Besides Rob is a great cook!
-
Originally posted by RM81:

I just wonder if you fly boys can handle a little chill in the air.
-
We are going to have room service right?
-
We always got the A/C tents in the desert. Why not heated tents in the winter???
-
Rm81 We had houses in the desert with maid service. That burns leatherneck @## USAF 2000-2006
-
Dang, I'm jealous too (although I didn't have it too bad). Of course, doing my laundry did keep me busy when I had some occasional "time off".
-
I had AC. Everytime I lifted my head out of my hole a bullet would whiz buy. Instant AC. Not to mention I really didn't mind the 130 degree heat, billions of flys, burning wells, and an occassional hello from the inaccurate Iraq artillery unit. See what you boys missed.
Rabbits beware,I'm getting the itch. And my new HH will need breaking in. I hope.
-
Thank you for your service guys! It's because of you all that we get to do this kind of stuff!!! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
-
-
osagetree,I sent you a PM.
-
Tree sent me a text today and the GORH bow is in the finish booth. I got a pic on my phone but it wont turn out.
-
Looks like alot of fun!!
-
Oklahomas not THAT far away!!!!
-
heck no only a 3/4days drive. Totally worth it. LOL
-
It ain't that far. Only be about 18 hrs depending on where in OK. Come join us guys!
-
We'll need to take lots of pictures, and one of just the Trad.Gang! :smileystooges:
-
I need to post on the wall !they may want to join us? Lots of good folks over there !
-
I've decided to camp. I'll try to get there Friday (depends on work). If not, I'll be there early Saturday morning. Really looking forward to this.
I agree, there are some good folks over there too.
-
Awesome Matt! Hope it warms up a bit!
-
I am back from the Kalamazoo Expo to work and 9 hours straight talking on saturday at the booth explaining the how-to's did not help my voice. Still a little rough:-((
I am still looking forward to the hunt in 17 days and hope we will not have any ice etc.
I don't plan to do a 5 hour drive on ice but with free roads no problem.
I will also bring a complete arrow-fix set to demonstrate, for you guys not familiar with it. If you have some broken arrows and some repair shaft pieces of the same diameter, feel free to bring em and I can demonstrate live if we have some electric juice at the club house?
Jim, is there some electric power at the club house I can hook up my powerdrill?
-
Yep we got juice.
-
Looking forward to seeing that arrow-fix. I'll bring a shaft to be repaired.
-
Jim, great!
I'll bring my workmate, powerdrill, epoxy and the tool. We will see how much we get accomplished...
By the way, I like that Wilhelm Tell shot :-))
-
Anyone from N.E. Ohio making the trip?
-
Mike are you staying all weekend?
-
:campfire: :archer2:
-
Yep.
-
Hey bomofo. You still interested in those cedars? I still have them and will definitly be at gorh.
-
Yes! Can you refresh my memory on the details!
-
It's getting closer! My knew to me bow should be here in time too.
-
If any one out there is from central Ohio area I will be going down on Saturday morning. I will be there for the day. If any one would like to ride along just send me an e-mail. I live in Newark and will leave early Saturday morning. I will head south through Lancaster area if anyone wants to go. Just let me know.
-
Yeah, I just got the latest 10 day weather forecast and it looks good. I hope the weather guys are correct once....
-
Please be right god. I don't want to die in my tent with 2 other guys.
-
Just put pics of the Tree's Custom Bow on the website that will be raffled at GORH.
www.greatohiorabbithunt.net (http://www.greatohiorabbithunt.net)
-
Irish. God forbid you do but if so can I have your tent? Just kidding buddy! Beautiful prizes going to be there. Good luck everyone!
-
you guys can huddle around my propane heater if it gets too bad
Both of those bows look pretty nice along with some other nice stuff for the raffle.
-
Well i have a wood burning stove, SO I should be alright.
Bowmofo, Those arrows are all 60# and weight ranges 461-470 10 plus year old cedar with 10" nock taper. $50
-
If the weather seems to stay dry I'll bring my 8 man Kifaru. I guess the 16 man will be overkill for just one night...
Is there still any snow on the ground?
Will there be some firewood? I highly dislike to bring some from out of state, which is not recommended by the DNR's for good reason.
Will not need much for the tipi stove anyways.
-
Fire wood will be there so no need to bring any.
:campfire: :campfire: :campfire: :campfire:
-
If anyone is coming from Yuengling territory pm me for a favor.
:archer2:
-
Yuengling? How much ya want me to bring? Hope to be there Friday afternoon or evening.
I'm gonna donate a few bows to GORH (Great Ohio Rabbit Hunt). Here's a couple of the youths I finished today.

-
Time to make some last minute phone calls to rally the troops! :help:
-
That looks like a blast.
-
Weather is supposed to be good. Quit whining about the drive and come to GORH!! Pete Darby, who made the first rebirth in '99 is driving over from Manassas VA. I've made all of them since the first one in '99 and am coming down from Morgantown WV. If Jamie Miller and Ed Jarvis show up there will only be 3 of us who have made all 7 since '99. Bummed Tony Phillips isn't gonna make it.
Who need Yuengling?
Rabbits be toast!!
-
Getting closer. :smileystooges:
Never tried Yuengling before. What's it taste like?
-
You can survive off it but it tastes like sh**.
-
Oldskool that's because you have no taste. I need some yuengling!
-
needs garlic
-
I'm bringing 12 for Jim and 6 for Matthew! Is that right? Did I miss anyone?
-
It is getting very close. I'll probably get up real early saturday morning and give it a go.
5.5 hours for me...
Time to get the license and dig out the tipi from the storage box...
Good I don't need to dig out the sleeping bag, it is always in the car...
Still need to tune up the grip section of my Prototype II bow I'll use to scare a few of those short eared hares :-))
-
I wouldn't mind trying a yuengling if not to much trouble.
-
Magnus you'll be in my tent you can share with me. I don't drink that much unless I'm having fun. Wait does that mean I'll need more? Hell. Osagetree can you get a 1e instead. I'll even tip ya. Lol
-
Kent,
Good to hear from ya man and glad you are coming up. Not a bad drive for you this time. You might as well grab me a 12 of the good stuff too man.
-
Cool! Glad to hear Pete is coming. Havent seen him in several years. You too Kent. Only see ya every other year it seems.
I wont be in til Saturday morning, but will be there from then on.
-
Thanks Irish!

Looks like a touch of rain on Fri,Sat is high of 44 and partly cloudy/sunny,Sun is a touch of rain. Looks better than it did 2 weeks ago.
-
Thanks Leatherneck! Does sound better than before.
-
I'll bring some Yuenglings! Can't wait for Friday.
Rabbits be toast!
-
I'd like to try a Yuengling if anyone can spare one. I'll have some Heineken for trade.
-
Just squeezed the hunting license out of the printer.....
300 mile drive and one hour time difference....brrr.
Jim, it is a shame I can't bring the Ballistik with me, but the limbs broke and I never got the bow back before John Fazio died. Well, it is written off in my "books".
-
Roland,
That's too bad about that Ballistik. I'm in the hunt for one. I was about to call John about ordering one when I heard he was sick. I thought I would wait till he got better.....I'd love to get back one of my old ones.
-
Festivities just a day away!
Rabbits be toast!
-
Yep, just finishing up my bow and arrows for the event. I aint been shooting much though!
-
I'll be packing up the Suburban to leave in the am here in a bit.
-
Hey jim is there going to be water available or do I need to bring my own.
-
Leaving at 830am. See you all around noonish!!!
-
Not sure. I would bring it. Jackson will be selling stuff out of the kitchen. I'd bet they will have bottled water.
-
We wont be there until evening and I guess we wont be camping due to the wife's chest cold. We'll either drive back home or stay in a hotel. I only live about an hour away.
Finished this one off today for the hunt, I named it "Rabbit Hole".

-
I wouldn't mind at all!

Anybody have a physical address to use with a GPS? I have the directions but love to hear Rita(my GPS) talk to me.
-
You all have fun. I'm not going to be able to make it :(
-
Please post a lot picture.
-
Leatherneck,
Heydeerman has lat/long coodinates posted on the GORH page, but here they are if they make sense to you!!:
+39 2'32.28",-82 40'27.48"
-
Joseph your enthusiasm and the work you have done is very appreciated. Thank you very much for making all these bows.
For GPS coordinates go to the 2011 page and quick on the Directions To GORH link and a google map will come up where you can enter your address and get driving directions and the coordinates are posted right there. When I get there this morning I will take the coordinates off my gps and post them on the GORH facebook page. I might be able to post them here to but not sure if I can from my blackberry. I can't remember my password here. You can get to the GORH facebook page from the GORH website. If there is wireless I can access down there I'll be hooked up.
-
I'll be there Saturday morning to set up camp. I was looking forward to meeting up Matt. Sorry you can't make it.
-
Well, only a few hours left, before the drive begins...
Scene from last night:
I was opening my storage box labeled "Tipis 8+16 man" and:
Where the f... is my 8 man Kifaru tipi? It was gone!
Well,I forgot that my elk hunting buddies were lending it for their hunt last september and I haven't picked it up at their place last time I've been up. Duhhh!!!
My 16 man is too big to bring out for just one or 2 days, if it gets wet it is a pain in the .... to dry it out for storage in my current living setup.
Solution: I will get to Wally World and see what they'll have...Their cheap tents have surprisingly good online reviews.
I hate it when such stupid things happen....but if it is only that...
-
There's a few camping down here right now. Spent the evening shooting for $1 in the indoor range. Gonna hit the hey, gotta be there early tomorrow.
-
I'm a little too under the weather to attend
hope everyone is having a great time!
-
I'm hoping someone is going to post lots of pictures! :readit:
-
We missed you there, Mike! Dylan and I were only able to be there for about half a day yesterday but had a blast.
Here are a few pics to whet your appetite.
There was some breeze shooting in the camping area...
We searched for rabbits in the creek bottom...
... and found one VERY fast one up in the brush. My son and Rob's grandson (in the distance) each got a shot at him thanks to some very hard work by Rob's dog Jake but no one connected...

It really was a good weekend with some great fellowship. The bunnies didn't cooperate but what game animal does? I have some pics but I'm a little tired. I'll post some in the morning.
I do want to thank Jim(heydeerman) for all his hard work in getting this together. Also his wife cause I'm sure she worked her butt off as well. One more thanks to Jackson Bowhunters Club for allowing us to use their facilities for the weekend. They have a sweet set-up folks.

Here's my favorite of Ben,,, butter and pancakes! :biglaugh:

Picking on the fat guy!I want to thank everyone that helped on this event. It was a blast and we are going back at the next event. And Osagetree you are the man.If you didn't attend you missed out.Osagetree made some great self bows and my son "eagleeye" was one of the lucky people had the privilege to take home one of his masterpieces. Here is a little story after receiving the bow he went straight to the bionic bunny and his first 4 shots killed the bunny everyone was dying a 9 year old with a self bow it was outstanding.I was one proud dad! Thanks Osagetree. :clapper:
-
And since Osagetree gave eagleeye a bow.Eagleeye is giving his vodostick to RM81s son. Here is a picture of that bow (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/110.jpg)

Dylan's in all three pics but he's hard to see in the second and third. Those are all I have. There were more taken at GORH though - hope they get posted soonish. :D
-
Eagleeye,
Jacob say Hi. And has told everyone about you today. He had a blast. So did I watching you two.
-
we surely caught a break with the weather saturday. went downhill fast on sunday.
for a many years it was pretty hard to keep GORH alive. kudos to the GORH committee for stepping up. GORH would have died a few year ago if it weren't for these folks, and Jim in particular. thanks, fellas, for your time and for doing all that legwork. and a big thank you to every person who donated door prizes. the generosity of archery hunters never ceases to amaze me.
as always, it was good to see old friends, make some new acquaintances.
Kent, thanks for the beers, buddy!!!
-
Yea the weather was nice but an inch of snow would have been helpful for the hunt. But after all the cold we have had in Ohio for so long it made for a nice break. Especially for the ladies and kids. Jackson County Bowhunters does not have a website so there is no way to thank them here but they did a fantastic job and gave us the run of the place. That is a great club for Southern Ohio. Wish I lived closer.
-
Wow that is an event ! Wish we could do that in here, congrats
-
I was only able to be there for Sat., and it was my first time, but definately enjoyed it. Wish the rabbits would have cooperated cause I would have like to have seen if I could hit one, but the stumps sure didn't mind getting drilled. Found a shed and felt like a kid again flinging arrows into the air for the clout shoot. Thanks to everyone who had a part in putting this on. Looking forward to the next one.

http://s1085.photobucket.com/albums/j439/bkyrdshooter/
Here is a link to my photobucket I cant seem to figure out how to get the pics to the website.
I can't tell everyone enough how much fun I had on Saturday. Just sitting back and watching, listening, and learning. The day was exceptionally perfect for the activities we all shared in. Most definitely I will be camping at one of these events in the future. It was so nice putting some faces with the names here on Trad Gang. I think I truely bored my girlfriend with the tales of the day after my drive home Saturay night. I got home and put her to sleep with my giddish talk of the day and then I went out and turned on the back porch lite and blank baled with some tips the guys from Steubenville gave me. Thanks guys!
Neeless to say on the way home watching that full moon rise above the horizion as I headed North. I was extremely jealous that I was leaving but very thankful that I as able to spend such a perfect day with the men, women and children that were there that day.
Thanks so very much to Heydeerman and all the hard work you and the others put in to making this event happen and to continue to make happen. I am so very happy I made the decision to make the trip down and enjoy the day!
-
Trent, Really nice meeting you at the event. Too bad you didn't have your bow when that rabbit passed by you. I have that kinda luck too!
Great pics by the way!!!
-
bkyrdshooter-It was our pleasure to give you a hand. Keep practicing and working on that form and you'll continue to drill the bull.
BTW- It's St. Clarisville, not "the ville" as we call it.lol

I must also add,if any of you have never tried Joes(osagetree) self bows you need to. He makes one of the nicest self bows I've had the pleasure to shoot. I really enjoyed his hickory bow. A true craftsman for sure.
-
Mike, Wish I could have spent more time with you and the guy's in your group. With so many to meet and all going on it was hard to do. We all should do and early season hunt somewhere next fall.
I'll get around to that stave soon and maybe I can work up a few more hickory's this summer. We can do some horse trading then!
My computer mouse won't right click so I can post pics. Gonna fix that today and post a bunch of pics here.
-
Heres a few pics I took until Joe gets his uploaded. I know Cheryl took a bunch.
First off due to the cold weather we were having we forgot a cooler. So it was 68 degrees on Fri and we had to improvise. Hence, the redneck cooler.

Sorry about that Leatherneck. Did not mean to offend if I did. I knew it had a "ville" in it. Just like my form and my shooting. I shot a little high. LOL

Eagleye(Hayden Hilt) with one of several bows that Joe(osagetree) made and donated. These are real works of art.
One of the bows he made was dedicated to Chris Surtees and an arrow was shot into the woods by the recipient of the bow. Chris was with us this weekend.

A funny story. Jacob donated this pinecone to the door prizes and guess whos name was drawn for it? :dunno:
Yep-Jacob. Talk about funny.

He's forever known as the "Pinecone Kid"

Joseph, as soon as I have my normal form up, I will build more prototypes. I already have the material. I guess I'll employ you as a field tester.....

Hey Joe, it was great to meet you and your wife. She seemed to enjoy GORH to. Domonique slept with that hickory bow and shot all day Sunday. He said we have to make the trip down there so you can learn him more.We had a blast and looking forward to the next 1. It was good to see everyone again and meet new trad gangers to.
Jim you did an out standing job again. Thanks for all your hard work and the ones that helped you

We had everyone sign the green hickory selfbow I made and Domonic won the bow for being the hardest hunter at the event.

There were many more archers than in this group pic. It was really hard to get everyone in one place long enough for a group shot.

Usually we get overloaded with pics of GORH but I only saw a couple cameras walking around. It's a good thing Cheryl was there.

And then there were three...

Roland, It was way too cool to meet you in person. Especially the way it all went down.
-
I just want to thank Jim, his wife, all the volenteers, jackson bowhunters, all the folks who brought stuff for the raffle and all the participents. If it all wasn't there it wouldn't have been nearly as fun. The comroderie is just as fun as the hunting.
-
Thanks Cheryl for all the pictures. It was a pleasure meeting you. Thanks for putting this event on. It was a great time for little kids and big kids :campfire:
-
Matt, when you get tired of that bow just let me know and I come down and pick it up. save you the shipping cost

now that there is a motley crew. :D
for those of you not familiar, those three fellows pictured above are the three remaining original GORH survivors who have attended every GORH. we have endured much to make it this far. blizzard, draught, famine, hypothermia, drowning, Gohrbitussin, Spam cake, the Waldo rabbit, death marches, chili dances...
-
and now a heat wave.

I do and so does Jacob. Of course I told him he couldn't use the knife except with me. He was so proud of that knife and has shown everyone.
:)

@Jasaon: That is great. I hope it will serve him right! :D
@heydeerman: I had a really good time. Was definetely worth the drive!
For all raffle participants: I may return..... :biglaugh:

Thats great! now just place all those tickets right here in this shredder. LOL.
-
Everything was great except for the rabbit hunting. :biglaugh:
Got to meet a lot of new folks and put some names with faces. Camping was fun although I did have to change out propane tanks at about 3 or 4 am. Next time I'll be sure to fill up my 20lb tank beforehand.
-
It was nice meeting you Matt. Sorry we didn't get time to talk more than we did.
-
This is the stupid thing about weekends, they're too short. :(
Joseph, unfortunately I can't shoot the new bow this weekend at our local 3D-shoot.
:archer2: :nono:
I need to get new arrows for it, but I'll have to order test arrows first.
Talking of the bow. I like the look of the tips, but they are very narrow and short beyond the nock grooves. This makes it almost impossible to string it without a stringer, because there is no place to put your finger to pull above the nock. I'll have to mail you a shape drawing for the nocks to make it easier to string bows. I can string all my moderately reflexed longbows with the normal step through method. Just a hint for future bows. :)
-
oldskool I will be shooting that magic stick till it or I dies.
-
Well I'm not going to offer to help you along.
Your to good a friend for that.
-
Roland, I always use the step through method & never a stringer so I don't worry about that. Yes, I'd like to see your version of the ultimate tips! Feel free to rework the tips if you like. It is your bow now... You can also place a spacer on the shelf window to adjust the bow to your arrow spine. Does that make sense? The bow string is probably past center!
-
Man!! looks like you guys had a great time! can't believe I had to sit this one out. Still not 100% feeling better. got a new bow and haven't the strength to shoot it! Thanks for posting the Great pictures. it helps I think! :dunno:

Dang.... you guys look much older than I remember..... death marches must be tough.
I hear spam cake is a perservative.... you all should eat some.

You may change your perspective if you walked the course with them! :nono:
