I use a climbing tree stand a lot of the time. I want to start using a fanny pack instead of a backpack because its a pain to carry a back pack and then strap a climber to your back as well. I have looked around and havent really found a pack that I like. My backpack is a badlands and seems to be of high quality, but the badlans monster is kinda big. Any sugestions?

I would suggest one that has a shoulder harness thats comfortable the harness is most important.Otherwise it will be at your ankles 10 min into your walk.and if your climber is on your back the fanny pack cant be to high.
Rather than try to strap the stand to the pack, I put alice pack straps on my stand and bungey cord my pack to the stand,works for all stands, climbers or hangers.
Tried not to do it, but here is the shameless plug. I have a Kifaru Day Stalker for sale in the classifieds you might look at. It may be to large, but only you will know that. It has no shoulder straps but has a very good waist belt that has two side pull straps that keep the pack were you put it. (snugged into your lumbar area riding on your hips) There web site is

BIG fan of the coyote. I have had mine for 7 years. I have tried to stray - must have bought two or three other day packs - and always come back to her. In fact, I finally bought an extra one - just in case I cannot get one sometime in the future. That says a lot I think.
I have used it in at least 5 states from tree stand hunting to elk hunting. It holds a lot in and you can easily strap on extra coats on the top, if you need to. I also strap in on my climber if I have that on my back.
Another thing that may interest you, I can easily strap on my safari tuff back quiver w/2 cheap carabiners. Everything in the pack and quiver is accessible and of course so are the arrows :-). That is how I elk hunt.

I was having the same problem with a pack ...I just take my pack & lay it flat against the back of the climber & put 2 bungee straps across from side to side & one top to bottom & roll on with it...works alot better than having to buy a new one.once you climb up you can use the straps to secure the pack to the tree for easy access...
Duluth makes one called the "all day lumbar pack." It has straps for when you walk around and you can slide them of if it gets in the way of your climber. Its the best without question.

I also strap my Pack to my tree stand I have a cat quiver 5 I have had for years it is a very vesetile pack.

Most major mountaineering backpack brands also make really good lumbar packs in various sizes.A North Face lumbar pack has served well for about 15 years and is good for more.Sometimes a full backpack fits the job better but a good fanny pack is nice to have.
