drove down to our club yesterday afternoon to hunt with a couple of my buddies. Hung some stands in the early afternoon and climbed up in one about 4:30. I shot this guy at 6:11. he was in there about 10 min. before I got a shot. I just knew he was gonna bust me. My best buck with bow or gun. Dakota Recurve 42@28, axix 500 with abowyer brown bear head (496gns). pass through. shot was about 12yds. double lung. deer was dead 27 steps from the arrow. Bucks are starting to roll around there. I saw 6 on the road heading back to camp. Good hunting. Don
I forgot my camera so the pics were taken this morning when I got home.

Congrats on a nice buck Don. It's a well-known fact and corroborated by the NC wildlife folks, but I never have quite understood if rutting activity is triggered by photoperiodism, why does it begin a month or more earlier in the eastern part of NC compared to the western half the state? If the amount of daylight hitting deer retinas due to the shortening length of days is what is relevant, sunset time is changing uniformly across the state even though it will begin a few minutes earlier in the east and move westward. Any armchair biologists want to clue me in? Does this phenomenon happen in VA. or S.C.? If so, I haven't heard about it?
Way to go Batman! Loved hearing the story yesterday. Big cutting BH up front was the ticket. Does not hurt the archer behind it can knock a flea off his cat's back at 30 yards either.... :notworthy:
Nice buck and Congrats!
Nice deer. It sure is a rush when they hang around a while and you think its all over.

Hey that's a fine deer. I don't know a thing about the hunting in North Carolina but that has to be a real bruiser. Congrats on the nice deer.
Mike
Thanks a bunch everyone for the nice comments As I said before, I didn't even take my camera. I'd have loved to took some pics of the Ray Charles, Blood trail. However My buddy sent me the ones he took off his phone. Not the best quality but the whole deer anyway. As you can probably tell in the pics, I'm ready for a cold beer and after the butchering was complete, indulged in 1 or 12 LOL. Thanks again Don
