Title: 3 under nock point
Post by: droptine82 on October 03, 2010, 05:48:00 PM
I have been having trouble getting my nock point right.  I started by putting it 1/2 inch high and bare shafting.  My inpact with bare was low.  I moved it down at 1/16 or less intervals and it stayed low and got worse.  I thought it was my poor release.  Which it could be part of my problem but I finally started it at 1 inch above and got better flight.  I am close now at close to 7/8 above.  Does anyone else have a nock point this high?  It just seems really high to me.  I shoot 3 under and have tried to shoot split which gives me better flight at lower nock points but accuracy goes way down.  IS this poor release?  I am self taught and have been working at close ranges to improve form but have really been battling this nock point issue till I went extreme high to see what happened.  Is this normal?

I usually vary from 1/2" to 1" high with 3 under, just move it up a little more

i've run a 3/4 - 7/8" nock height on many of my bob lee's. i think it has alot to do with the type a bow. if the arrow flies good i wouldn't worry to much.

You might have to move it up a bit. I had the same problem with my BW so I called them and Roger said I might have a lazy 3rd finger moved it up a bit and it shot perftic.

No such thing as to high or to low, just keep moving it till you hit your sweet spot.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I should have started higher before and I would not have 2nd guessed this.  I dont know if I have a lazy third finger but I do know it is numb most of the time if I shoot more than 2 days a week.  I have really been trying to pick up the string with my middle finger and concentrate on using it most cause it seems to help with arrow flight and consistency.

Most of mine are 5/8 but thats just my set ups.  I shoot everyday and never seem to get any problems with my fingers.  I also shoot a tab if that helps.

5/8ths inch is normally where I end up also.  I think it has alot to do with the pressure across the three fingers.  I'd like to be able to shoot 2 under as my anchor feels more solid and I can gain a little draw length, but my finger tips pay the price in wear and tear.

Mine are 3/4 or higher.  Only way I can get good flight with three under.

If shooting a bow 3 under that is tillered for split finger, it has been my experience the nock point needs to be significantly higher, usually more than 1/4 inch higher.

Seems like all 14 bows that I currently have set up are at 3/4.  Looks a little funny but works

Mine is around 3/4".  Also make sure you have a nock point under the arrow too.  The arrow can (and will) slide down the string causing problems.  Some string serving works great, use a nail knot.

I have never noticed a difference in nocking point between 3 under or split finger. I set my nocking point initially by drawing an arrow and moving my nock so it is perfectly level at full draw and putting my string nock just above the arrow. Historically that is the proper nocking point and finger position has made no difference.
