The story has already been told, but here are the pictures of my recent Wyoming elk hunt in the Bighorns. What an incredible adventure.

After hearing a bunch of crashing and grunting in dark timber below me I called this bull in. I took this picture at eight yards and the path he was on was bringing him closer. I got nervous and threw my arms in the air to scare him off. That was close enough to a huge bull moose with love on his mind! :scared:

Really appreciate you sharing both stories and pics with us, hats off to you sir! Looks like your adventure gave you way more than just an elk hunt, and that my friend is why we do it! Thank you again!
Well buddy, those are a LOT better than the ones from the cell phone :D
Looking forward to hearing the rest in person.
Great pictures of a very succesful hunt. I need to get the camera out a bit more I think.

Those are some great pic's. I like it when guys post the scenic pic's of their hunts, especially when there hunting out west. Thanks for sharing.
What Hooper said X2 ! Thanks for sharing with us Whip.
Glad you had a great time. An elk on the ground would be icing on the cake, but it still looks like a great trip. It's good when non residents get to enjoy the wonders of Big Wonderful Wyoming! Come back soon!
Thanks Whip looks like a awesome time.
Looks like beautiful country and good times. Thanks for sharing.
Those pics are awesome. It is truly a Blessing to see country like that. RC
Awesome pictures and now you have stirred my blood to make a return trip to visit the Bighorns.
Great pics.
That was one heck of a Shiras moose. In fact it was without doubt the biggest moose of any type I have personally seen. I don't know much about scoring them but there is no doubt he was huge.
I've had my share of trips that end up with meat in the freezer at the end. This one didn't, but it will still rank as one of my best all time. Lots of memories that will be with me forever.
Thanks for sharing your great pics and adventures. The hunt is been a great success anyway,Joe.
Your pictures tell a great story. Thanks

Thanks Whip. You put a lot of effort into sharing this hunt with us. We're all drooling and as envious as hell. No meat, but that's why it's called hunting...

Leland
Thanks evryone for the nice comments.
I do take a lot of pictures and really enjoy looking back at them, especially years later. They really bring the trip back to life.
All of these pictures were taken with a compact $150 camera. I have an expensive camera as well, but find myself using this one most of the time. I just throw it in my pocket so it is always handy. I've found if I need to dig my camera out of a pack to take a picture I don't end up taking many. On this trip I probably took over 200 pictures. Sure do love digital over the old film days!
Good gosh look at the Bull Moose! I don't know how you managed to keep the frame composed and not blurry!
Great stuff, Joe! :campfire:
Awesome country and what a trip! Thanks for taking us along.
Awesome Hunt Whip!! Great Pictures!
Very cool Whip...thanks for sharing.
Man oh man. Now I see why we couldn`t excite you with a stinky old `gator. That is some cool territory.
Like you I know nutting about scoring critters, but I was screaming shoot when I seen the first moose and about stroked out when i seen the second.
Good on ya, mate.
Whip,
Awesome pics. Memories for a lifetime. Thanks. Ken
Whip those are awesome. Like I told you before that Moose is awesome. I sure enjoyed hanging out with you.
 EXCELLENT!!!!!
Fantastic, Joe!
Great pics Joe. Thanks for taking us along!
Oh my what awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing them and your hunt as well!!
Glad you made it back to the "The Land of Cheese" safe and sound.
Great pics ! Thanks for sharing your hunt with us.
Joe,
The story thread kept me glued almost every day. This picture thread just amplifies the fact that just being there is good for the soul!
We sometimes take for granted all the great open places that we can get away to while carrying a bow. It certainly drives home the fact that just being in "their" home and walking among them is more than good enough.
Thanks for sharing with all of us. We felt like we were there with you.
:campfire:
Awesome pictures Whip! Looks like a great time!
Real nice pics.Even the sheep pics were cool.
That just primed my pump Whip! Great pics and glad you made it back safe...Some of us here will never get a chance to see all this Beutiful Country "God Created" but those still frames really make me want to get out into the Great outdoors...That was a great hunt just to get pics of all those majestic creatures we all dream about...Thank you very much Whip for thinking of taking pics for all of us...Keefer's <")))><
Fabulous!
Thank you, Whip!
I was seeing some serious "dead moose" there. What a coup!
When I leave a special place like that, my thoughts drift to it many times over the course of a year. I wonder, that bright bunch of ripened grass, that is snowed over, flattened, decaying now, right? Those wallows, are they crispy at the edges? Frozen over? Once I have taken notice and lived in the heart of a place, I am always traveling back, in my mind, and feeling what might be happening there now. They cling to you, they are a part of you. Thank you for sharing your images, pictures of things that made your heart sing.
Killdeer
Looks like a really great trip with lots of cool scenery
Great pics! God's country for sure.
Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful country! Thanks for posting these.
Awesome Joe, Great Pictures and I heard all about your visits with Randy. Glad you had a great time!
Magnificent country! Thanks for sharing those.
That moose is incredible! I think you will take the memories of this trip with you for the rest of your life!
Just came across this one. Simply amazing. As much as I love hunting the midwest and New England, someday I need to get out where you cant see a sign of humanity to the horizon. Thanks for the for sharing your adventure.
Those are some nice pics, thanks for sharring!
out standing pic.. thanks for sharing them.
The last time I was up in the Big Horns I seen a Moose too, must be a lot of them up there (I wasn't even hunting). Nice pics, it's got me wanting to go back there.
Great pics Whip. Really enjoyed them all.
I am in the market for a new camera. I stalled out on pulling the trigger when I couldnt decide between the medium sized ultra-zooms in the 20x-26x range and the more compact models that go up to 12x-16x range. I am interested in decent video capabilities also. What were you shooting these pics with and do you have suggestions???
Thanks, Randy.
YOU BET THERE IS A GOD IN HEAVEN???
GREAT PICS :)
Cheers for the tag a long Mr Whip, me ol coober!
Brings back thoughts of my Elk adventure....
Cool 3 peice longbow too mate, what is that? (Like I need another bow to!)
Regards,
ak.
Awesome pics mate. Thanks for sharing.
Al, that is my trusty RER LX. It has been responsible for a lot of meat over the past couple of years. But it never quite got the chance to do its thing on this trip.
Randy, those pics were all taken with my little compact Panasonic camera. 5X zoom is all it has. I also have a really nice full size Canon digital with a tele lens, but this little camera is the one that does almost all of my pictures.
A must for me is a camera that fits easily in a pocket. I find that I take 10 times more pictures if I can get to the camera without having to dig it out. Quality isn't quite as good, but I take a bunch and can usually find a few decent ones in the end.
My pocket cameras do take some abuse with dust, etc. But the prices now are so resonable that I just buy a new one every two or three years. This one is starting to act up. Some of the pictures have a dark spot where there is apparently some dust inside. (It's not on the lens). Some of the pics I edited out the spot.
Great pictures Joe! Spent some time in the Big Horns way back chasin mulies, beautiful area.
What a great trip!! Puts everything into perspective doesn't it :)
Joe, Thanks again for sharing both your written "diary" and the pictures of your adventure. Awesome!
I have thought often of the little pouch you have for your camera. Took the plunge this year and bought a little camera to carry with me. Thanks for the idea!
Thats awesome Joe.....you weren't lying..he was close!!!!!!!!
That looks wonderful! Glad you had a great trip!
