well got to the stand a little after 4 this evening and had the first rain in several weeks.Which i thought was kinda funny since it would be the first time i got to hunt this year.well weather channel said 4 oclock and the rain was moving out.so i threw on my clothes and headed out.when i got to the cow pasture that had three huge white oaks dropping like crazy.i hung the lone wolf earlier in the week due to sign and couldnt get but like 12 feet because of the trees were so big,so i picked a tree where i had good front and back cover close to the trail.only bad thing was i am on the downside of a hill looking straight on at the trail....well when i got there i saw something moving in the pasture five monster gobblers and i have a tag,too late they seen me and it was over so i made my way to the stand and prepared for a slow night or so i thought....well got my hunter safety system hooked up bow holder screwed in and settled in..this is my first year to use a 2 bade single bevel and alluminums.traded for some abowyers from here and got them scary sharp.i am shooting a bw pma2 60@29 bought the 62 in.limbs from the classifieds and was wearing a fleece outfit that i got from the classifieds as well...i love this place...ok so i sat there for about 45 mins.and was wondering which way the wind was going to blow next.it blew everyway but from the east,so i was getting upset and thinking of moving to a food plot, well i stood up and the wind was coming from the nw blowing straight into the oaks so i was about to move when something caught my eye.was looking to the east praying if something came it would come that way.well i looked down the valley and caught some movement.well so i stood up grabbed my bow, moved my bow holder. and prayed they came up the trail.so here it is 5:12 and i have 2 does and a yearling coming hard up the trail..breath i tell myself breath dont blow this.well the lead doe was the biggest and she didnt have a fawn so it was game on.so i was wondering when she was going to bust me cause we were eye to eye.well she stopped behind some sapplings and i got my bow up and fingers on the string she grazed for like what felt like an eternity and she finally came in broadside at 12 yds.i drew back hit my anchor, and she had a little piece of mud right were her heart is,well i focused on the spot and away went 734 grains of pain right to the spot....woo,ok so i watch the arrow go through her but not all the way.well that kinda urked me but i seen blood flowing as soon as the arrow hit.well long story short she ran 50yds.and was over.well the other two does didnt know what was going on but i was too tore up to shoot..i have pics if someone wants to post them for me...hope everyone has a good start as i did....steve

Excellent opener for you in Indiana! What county are you in? I hunt around Attica, IN but used to live in NW Indiana and Elkhart was my hot spot.
Sounds like you are in the south -- hills?

Those yung'ns are are pretty capable of surviving, by this time of year. Big sister or auntie will be pretty good teachers from here on. But; they themselves are mighty tasty!!
Either way, taking a doe is just plain good for the herd.
