So it's finally here and im ever so happy! there's a quick pic on pg 3 near the bottom!! I cant wait to give her a try. it needs a few things, like the nock seems really low to me. its easy to pull, which is alright since im new to this (or the string is loose? dunno? it was a pain to string.) and its really long! im 5' 4" and its 66" inchs... i hope thats not a bad thing! either way i need arrows pronto so i can see how badly i shoot with it on thursday! hahahaha!
Really... i am more then a patient person. but Ive been waiting for over a week for something that i thought should have been here Thursday and that i KNOW has been in town since Friday. and Ive gotten no message, no slip no nothing. and if i had known they wouldnt even have tried to deliver it today i would have marched right down their and give them he!!. i mean i love my normal route lady... but if you dont have the common courtesy to get your butt out of your car, when im home and leave a note... then what else am i supposed to do but complain!? Now i have to wait even longer for my bow. im so upset its not even funny. i mean maybe im over re-acting, but darn it. I've encountered so much generosity on this site, and was so hyped up to give it a try and have something to show for all that genorisity and nothing. im so upset. *sighs* now im just discouraged with everything. theres a lot else going on, but i figured this would be my one good thing. guess not. i'll get off my soap box/whine fest and go hit my head on a wall :banghead: or something now....
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: I am not laughin at you I am laughin at me cause I have so been there. BTW the walls dont work just makes your head hurt. I once stopped the Fed Ex truck while directing traffic on an accident to ask about an anticipated delivery.
You'll forget the frustration Monday when you finally get that bow in your hand.
Sorry!! Sometimes a woman just can't catch a break!
I'm having to wait until Monday since mine didn't show today.
God bless,Mudd
I live in a smallish town and the PO folks know me and all about bow deliveries and stuff. I think when they know I am waiting on a bow they send out delivery trucks to drive past my house just to tease me-everwhere I look I see mail trucks, and I just know my bow is in there-why don't they stop and make the delivery? :bigsmyl:
thats funny bjorn.
Mudd, Honestly i cant catch a brake.
Canyon, glad im not the only one.
Hopefully my dad can pick it up for me (without a slip, i just printed out the tracking number) they never left a slip and i work the entire time their open. if he cant, then i have to wait till thursday which is my day off. :(
This is not directed at everyone in the postal service(by this I mean not intended at you Killdeer), but I have had just bad luck with the post office. At my old place the delivery was just horrid. You never knew if a package was going to make it to you or not and if it did there was a good chance it wouldn't be in one piece. After I moved to a different town I'd figure the mail service would be better. Wrong, this mail person is so lazy that one day when I got home from work she had literaly driven the mail truck through my yard and was parked literaly on my front steps. Then she had the nerve to actualy throw the package out the window onto my deck. I actually watched all this happen. I can't even explain how angry this made me.
sorry to hear about your bow.i'm wating on one too.i have no patience when i comes to waiting on something to arrive.i am tring to work on this, but it is so hard.right now i am waiting on a bow,two dozen arrow shafts, shooting glove, turkey feathers and obsidian arrowheads.so i feel where you are coming from.i hope you get your bow real soon so we all can get a look at it.i am sure you will love it,steve
I am having a issue as we speak about this issue today. I got a bow from a fellow member here on the gang. I have confirmatiom package was received for shipment this was on Monday Sept 27, expected delivery Sept 29 this was by priority mail insured today still no bow. I contacted the P.O. gave my story, they gave me a case number and said we will contact you in 2 business days, we are going to try to locate the item. I thought Priority was a priority? Anyone else have this problem?
i sent some topo maps to a friend who lives in a town of 1100 people 40 miles away on Sept. 6th. I shipped 1st class with delivery conformation. it took 6 days to reach the one and only post office in that town. my friend lives 1.5 miles from the post office. he got the maps in his mailbox Sept.30!!!
Wasn't me...

patience, Irene, patience!

But on the other hand, I made a trade with Canadabowyer in BC and we both had our bows in 10 days from the date we shipped them. That's pretty good time considering they had to be inspected by Customs and travel over 2000 miles. Neither bow was damaged either. Sometimes the post office is the model of efficiency and other times you wonder if there is a black hole that packages fall in and are never seen again.
Yep i've been haveing bad luck with usps.I dont know whats going on.But items that took a few days a year ago now takes 10 days.My daughter bought OSU tickets on the big auction site. The seller lives in Akron i live about 20 miles east of Columbus. The seller shipped the tickets on monday priority mail. They arrived here on friday. The game was on thursday. It's only 80 or so miles.I could of walked them here in that time.Wow thanks i feel better now.Hope your bow makes it soon.Jim
Wait til you do get it and one end of the package has been re-sealed like it was opened and the bow looks like someone tried to string it and shoot it in the warehouse on lunch break. Just something to keep you flying.
Been there done that! But I will give a Big tip of the camp hat to the post office here a few weeks ago. Hot hap mailed me some broadheads he said he sent them out at around 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday well at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday they were in my mailbox here at home! 22 hours from door to door!
When I'm expecting one of my "toys",I'll be sitting at the PO before they open.
i guess first off i assumed it was sent prioriety... bad me never assumed. so when 5 days came and went i thought "Oh noes! its lost in the mail!" Wah! but then i asked and found it was sent normal... ok fine. just a few more days. then i find out they "attempted" to deliver it and left a note.... uhh... i guess the squirrel's stole the note to use as a nesting material or something. i mean i even checked some trash that was in my yard to make sure it hadnt escaped with the wind.
then i forgot that they no longer redeliver if i dont actually request it. which they used to even though they looked at me like i was crazy the last time this happen.
now dont get me wrong, i love USPS. ive never had a problem and all my packages have arrived safely to their destination. (im a pro packer though...) and one time i had a package lost, but that was due to parcel post apperantly sending it the scenic route... USPS still thinks that it never arrived to its destination. took a month or more, but it got there.
and like i said, i love my normal route lady. shes typically very nice and always leaves my packages in a safe little place.
its just frustrating. all the bad always happens at the same time you know? I've been to the range already and like bass pro two or so times. more then enough places to get new string, arrows and stuff. each time i think i will be ready i havent been.
Its a good thing i dont hunt. O__O it would make me even more livid if i was waiting for it to hunt with. not that it would be legal to do so. Haha
Oh well. i'll just breath and go over all the stuff i do have and hope it will all work.

i wish i could! but i cant. T_T you know the times were im actually scheduled for work (cause they keep cutting my hours) is when i get stuff that im expecting.

i wouldnt pass it by someone to do that. but then id have some more mighty words for people if it came broken cause some stupid person tried to play with it. :(
This is a local mail truck a few days ago. Be glad your new bow was not in it.

probably.
Shipped a stock and barrel to California on Tuesday and the guy got it today. Have had good luck with USPS. Shipped to China. The homeland security papers were a pain but the USPS did great. Sorry you are having issues. Don
Irene,
If you don't have it by tuesday I'll see if I can sneak out and pick it up for you.Seems like it always the good stuff that gets stuck in the mail. Dang bills seem to go thru just fine now don't they???
A kind fellow tradganger dropped me a note that broadheads were shipped yesterday. I arrived home today to find them sitting on the kitchen table.
Counting my blessings, x2. :)
Hope it comes soon! Sorry for your frustration.
Magnus
sorry guys dont mean to be such a brat. :p
About 2 months ago, we camo dipped two bows and shipped them insured back to there owner. Not being familiar with ilf stuff as far as pricing, I under insured them by a bunch. Wouldn't you know it, they never made it. After lots of calls and complaining, and receipts, we received a check for the amount of insurance, but I had to cough up an additional $1200 to cover value of the bows.
Lets do the math, camo dip 1 bow = $115. Subtract shipping and insurance of $15 = $100
That means I had to dip twelve bows for free and of course eat the labor and materials.
Oh well, crap happens and the customer was very understanding and nice enough to send me another for dipping. This time he chose ups and everything went well.
I still prefer usps because I get first hand visuals of the treatment of the ups packages I get. Might sound like a joke, but I believe Ace Ventura is the head trainer for ups delivery guys.

I've never had a problem with USPS. This is how I do all my business whether I'm sending an item or receiving an item.
I have had one letter go astray for two months, but that is the only one in 40 years. So for me, USPS has a very, very good track record.
I will be glad when you get this.............
I live outside a small town and my PO lady told me if my gate is closed then no delivery. We are always home and she could honk her horn or leave a notice. She is a nice lady so I don't want to raddle her cage. I just sit on the porch at 11:30
I had a guy send me a bow, and he paid extra for it to get here very quickly.... it took as long as if he had just sent it 3rd class.
I had 15 yrs with the Postal Service, quit when I started having dreams of shooting fellow workers. I have rural delivery and the Postman beeps his horn and before I can get out the door he is half way up the driveway. Excellent service. Great service from the UPS man but there shipping method sucks...PR

it will! :) i mean its here in town. their just idiots and wont deliver something when they should you know. We have a beware of dog sign and i literally had someone leave a pink slip in the box and wrote "Beware of dog sign" Which is funny, cause our dog passed away (not that he was a guard dog anyways) the sign is to keep nosey solicitors and code enforcement out. so i get all sort of stupidity thrown my way. had it been my normal route lady im sure she would have left it for me.
so like i said, i dont blame the seller and i really dont blame USPS that much either. its just we have lazy people who work the weekend routes apparently. cause its usually the end of the week when i dont get my packages. its never the middle or early in the week.
i dont know how their routes work or anthing like that? i figured they had the same routes but i guess not?
no biggie. i'll be a little more patient.
I have my post office's phone number, they open at 8am and by 8:01 they are on the phone with me asking if I have packages..lol
It's the Post Master that usually answers the phone so since she has to deal with me if something doesn't get delivered, she makes sure it does..lol
God bless,Mudd
hahaha i have their number too. but i never get an answer... although one time they let me pick up a package after hours. :)
I have had a lot of success with USPS. I will say that I never ship anything priority. I have had enough packages arrive in in 6 days when shipped next day mail to know better. I have never had a package lost and only one slightly misplaced for a period of 20 days.
UPS and FED Ex on the other hand have destroyed, lost, and all around ruined packages and product often enough I won't ship with them unless a customer insists.
yeah i agree ragnarok.
So here's hoping my father can release my little bow from the grips of the USPS... so i can finally get a darn good look at it! XD i have everything i need except it! well the arrows ive collected maybe too short. but i'll never know till its home.
Here's hoping! <3
*sighs* why do Mondays have to be soooo long? I want to go home. But I guess staying at work earns me money for things like arrows.
barring any calamities, with scheduling... in about 15-20 minutes i will finally be united with my first recurve. this day has passed so SLOWELY! i hope im as giddy about it when i get the box in my hands as i was when i first purchased it. :)
did ya get it???
I did!! i did!!! Its wonderful!! it seems so large compared to my wheelie. or im just short. Hahaha! I hope the fact that its long, wont hinder me. im 5' 4" and its 66" hahaha but it pulls really easily which i was told is good for a beginner like me.
here's a quickie shot with my cell phone cause theres no good light nor area for me to take good pics with my good camera!
proof that its in my impatient little hands!

im so excited for thursday. even if i dont know if i have arrows for it. Hahaha! maybe a quick trip to bass pro is in order since they close at 10. Hmmm?
I hope you got it. I think we're almost not quite but almost as anxious as you are! Let us know we're rooting for you!

You posted when I was typing. So glad for you!! Can't wait to get reports on it's performance. Beautiful bow!

its very lovely. a little TLC and it will look nearly new i think. Hopefully if i can get it set up i can test it out thursday! im stoked.
woohoo!!! Its here!!!
I am happy for you Irene. I just went through the same thing with my new Thunderstick mag. I received it today beautiful and shoots like a dream.
thanks guys for the well wishes. ive just given it a good waxing and unstrung it again... and am pondering where on earth i can put it. LOL my wheelie has its own case but this one has yet to have one... i thought i could make one, but the fabric i had set aside is too short. :(
random question of the day... how far out should an arrows point be at full draw (or nearly full draw for that matter.) ive recieved some arrows from some generous folks here, and i was surprised to see they all fit, some barely... but i wanted to know whats too short, too long?
Too short would be if it the arrows point pulls onto the arrow shelf at full draw.Thats especially important when using broadheads for hunting as you might imagine. With broadheads you would want about an inch of clearance so you dont bump the broadhead into your knuckles.
I dont think you want too much arroow sticking out in front of the riser in general. But a few inches is no big deal really.
The most important thing is that you are getting good arrow flight with no fishtailing or porposing. The quicker your arrows recover from paradox the better IMO.
Bareshaft tuning or paper tuning can be of help in getting the right spined arrow.
thanks! so the ones i have a probably too short then. :) i'll have to look at em again though. no time yesterday.
As stated for to short above. There are a lot of people who shoot with full length arrows and don't need to because of draw length. As long as good arrow flight is achieved it doesn't really matter. You might find your draw length is a little shorter than with your wheelie. Good luck and enjoy the journey!
Keeping the faith.
Magnus
Thanks Magnus. I'm hoping to go to the pro shop Thursday to have both bows looked at. My draw length is too long j think on my wheelie and I want my mock moved on my trad as well as a professional look over. Though it passes my seal of approval. Maybe I can give it a quick test run. Someone game a judo point and I'm curious to see how it works. :)
Can't wait to get a proper length so I can look into some arrows. :)
Get the right spined arrow for draw length and weight. Then work on length and point weight to achieve good flight. I am 5'6" and draw 25"on a good day so my bows are fairly short to use all the energy the limb will give me. At 66" you will have to use a cant to keep your limb away from obstructions but you will have a better picture with the limbs out of the way. But this is your new bow and I am sure there will be a few more bows before you find one that does everything you need :biglaugh: Enjoy your bow and have a great time at a great sport..........Chort

how do i go about this? for some reason no matter how much i read this seems to go beyond my comprehension. cant? oh you mean twisting the bow slightly...ok i got that. besides the fact that i forsee spending lots of money on arrows because there really isnt a whole lot of people near me who shoot trad. i guess trial and error is the way to go.
What is the poundage marked on the bow and what is your draw length?
Draw an arrow to full draw and have someone mark how far the arrow was drawn. You measure the arrow at the back end of the arrow shelf.
With that information an arrow of about the right spine should be fairly easy to recommend.
im 5' 4"... the bow is light weight. 20# at 28" inches if i recall correctly. my draw length is between 25-27 from what ive been able to measure.
I did a little research.I have never had to buy arrows for a bow that light.
Easton offers 1413 and 1416s that are recommended for bows of around 16-20#s and draws of 26-27.
They are youth aluiminum arrows.
You can do a search for easton arrows and look at thier website for further information.Easton archery.com
Shaft selector is what you wanna look at!
Be careful when dealing with the big chain sporting goods stores. Most of the archery folks are not experienced with trad gear and could stear you in the wrong direction. Not on purpose of course. My advise would be to call any of the sponsors on this site for arrow advice. I haven't dealt with all of them but the ones I have will take the time to answer all your questions and be able to steer you in the right direction without pressure of making a purchase from them. Braveheart archery is a great place to start along with Badger arrows the feathered shaft and so on. It's not all about the money to them. That are more than happy to just help out another trad archer. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Thank you guys! You've all been great help. :)
I'm really happy that your bow finally got to you.
I had said that I'd have to wait until Monday to get my bow.
Well it can't get here sooner than Thursday now.
Dagnabbitt!!!!!!
God bless, Mudd
Awwww I'm sorry to hear that Mudd! Hope it appears sooner then that. I can't wait till tomorrow to try and shoot it. I have a study group tonight. So no playing for me. :p soon though. Thursday after class I'm going to visit the pro shop and get things looked over and then shooting in the evening. So excited!!
junk mail is ABSOLUTELY NEVER late...but let me expect a bow or accessories and the whole system hits a wall!!!!! it is NOT my imagination.
Junk mail is never late. Unless it's actually a good coupon for a good sale. Then it comes in the day after the sale ended. But it's not your imagination!
Siloutemirage, I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping to hear about shooting your new bow. Have you been able to? If so, how was it? Are you as deeply hooked on it as many of the rest of us? I know after I was finally able to get a newer recurve last December after many years away due to a shoulder injury, I couldn't stand the wait to shoot it. Some days I even have to shoot a few arrows in my basement before work, at lunch etc. Never felt so strongly about it when I shot a wheeel bow.
i finally was able to shoot it last night. it was fun. definatly different. i didnt however get a whole lot of time to try it though, cause i got to the range several hours late, and they were practically closing. (that and i met up with a friend who was interested in archery. so i spent time introducing her to my wheelie.)
over all it was enjoyable, but i also didnt know what i was doing. but i guess i knew enough not to loose any arrows. of course it was only at 10 yards or so... im assuming it wasnt really marked. i couldnt hit the target at 20 yards. it was two funny attempts though.
Pics! finally... some that are good looking!

This is as she came. i will eventually remove the shelf rest, and give it a good cleaning, and figure out what i want to replace the rest with. for now she shoots just fine the way she is. :)
