And the story goes like this..................
:deadhorse: :deadhorse:
Well?????????
Still looking for his arrow?
I can't stand the suspense...
Seriously?
All I can say is that he is hunting with Eldon Jandreau and his success rate with moose and bowhunters is 100%....except of course for the bull Biggie missed a couple of years ago. Sounds like Biggies' evened up the score this time. Can't wait for the story and pics. I wonder how Marty is doing?
:dunno:
The big guy came through with flying colors. It's a beautiful bull. Pictures will be coming soon. I understand it was a 12 yd. shot. 48 inch Maine bull. Marty saw TWENTY moose yesterday so he's just about as high as Biggie feels right now. Good job brothers!
Way to go Biggie! That had to be just awesome. If I understand correctly, a 48 inch bull is pretty big up there isn't it? Congrats again.
This will be good.
Way to go Biggie! Can't wait for the story and pics!
You all will like the pics he is a dandy. Can't wait to hear the story.
Lookin' forward to the war stories!

I like the part about Marty seeing 20.
Congrats Mr Hoffman.
I've been patiently waiting to hear from the mighty hunters up in the Maine woods!

That is a very nice bull, what part of Maine are you in ? We have a place just outside of Rumford.
Awesome :notworthy:
That is the only animal "Biggie" could have killed in North America that is bigger than him. Way to go big guy. Couldn't you have gotten him a little closer? I understand that 12 yards is on the outside edge of your kill zone. Simply awesome my friend.

Wow! That was well worth the wait. I'm slobbering all over my Tshirt right now! :p
I have never even seen a real live moose before because I've never hunted outside of Missouri, which makes me the worst judge of animal size on anything bigger than a Herford, but that looks like a Monster to me.
Great Job Biggie!! You Da Man! :notworthy:
  :clapper:Now which one is Biggie in that Photo???

Don and Skyler
I passed a 36" Bull the first evening at 8 ft! Once again "a bird in hand..."
We are heading home in the morning- long drive ahead- Biggie's bull is a great story! He's snoring across the room right now!
Weather is bad today , getting worse tomorrow- 40 mph winds and rain. Bowhunting was bad today but rifle hunting was good.
When u kill these moose- you have your work cut out for you!
Great hunt.
Way to go Biggie
That is how it is done!!! Nice Bull Biggie!

Good luck to ya, Ken
Nice bull Biggie
 :campfire:
well done! very good bull indeed.
Congratulations Wayne!
What a fine trophy.
The report I got from Hunter's Point this AM is that 3 moose have been killed so far. One with a compound, Biggie's with a recurve and Marty went out yesterday with a rifle and got one. They have one other hunter, Steve Leffler from Vt. who is out in the rain and wind trying to get it done today or tomorrow. If Steve gets his bull it will be another 100% week...four hunters, four bulls. Got my fingers crossed for Steve.
Steve won't give up, I know that!
Biggie,
My wife, Debbie & I met you & Marty Sunday morn @ breakfast before your hunt. After hunting last year with Eldon and scoring, I was a little green with envy for you and Marty. Now, after seeing the pic I'm NEON!! Way to go - congrats!
Todd
Congratulations Biggie, that sure is a nice bull. Looking forward to the story.
Congratulations Biggie! :help: Oooooh that makes my stomach turn :p
That's a nice one. Congrats
:clapper: Speeeeech!
:clapper: Speeeeeech!

That is my dream hunt. Hunting moose with a recurve or longbow. No season when I live in Maine 30 years ago. Great bull Biggie!!!!
WOW! SUPER BULL BIGGIE!!!!!!
Good job! Congratulations!

Very nice bull, congrats!
Awesome Job. Must have been a blast.
That's a real beauty!! Congrats.
Well done big guy. Congrats
ChuckC
Congrats on a magnificent animal!!
Outstanding, guys! Congratulations! I'm looking forward to the stories.
Just got a phone call....Steve Leffler got his bull yesterday in the wind and rain with his Black Widow longbow. Another 100% week for Eldon and his guides.
Just had a chance to read thru all of this. Beautiful moose Biggie and I am glad Marty and Steve got their's as well. I have a feeling the FULL story will be the highlight of an upcoming PBS Magazine...can't wait to read it!
NICE BULL!!
Congrats Biggie,
chris <><
Outstanding Bull = moose meat for everybody! That thing looks huge.
Congratulations Mr. Hoffman on a fine trophy.
Nice work my Big Cuddly Moose killa!!!!
Sounds like a Great Hunt! Congrats Biggie & Marty.
congrats bigster!!
Peter, He may be you "Big Cuddly Moose Killa", but he's till "my Biggie" :biglaugh:
uhhhh, "My Biggie". Guru, as Ricky Ricardo used to say, "Lucy, you got some splainin' to do".
Since hunting with Biggie and Marty, my wife always refers to Wayne as "your Biggie"....so that makes him..."my Biggie" :biglaugh:
Awesome Biggie!!!!!!!
Great bull and the moose was a kicker. :clapper: :clapper: :biglaugh:
Humble Hoffman ain't talkin? I know he's home- I dropped him off there.
Maybe he's busy eating moose burgers :)
maybe he's out looking for Squirrel now :D
Where's some more pics and stories from Steve and Marty? :campfire:
Congratualtions
Can't wait to hear all of the details
Can you picture Biggie sitting down this morning in front of a nice plate of moose steak and eggs?
One has to enjoy some of the spoils of the adventure before telling long tales of said adventure!
:campfire:
Guru,
he would actually be your "One Sweet Bigge"...I was there when the name and thus the Legend of the Big Man was born...Of course can't take credit for Marty being called "Martha"...Uncle B owns that one...
O.K. gotta go, havent finished letting the elk make a fool of me!
How many donuts out of camp did you have to go to get him?
Good on ya, Biggie!
Okay, here is a picture of my bull. Not as big as Biggie's but I sure was glad to get him! It rained a lot and by Friday I was wondering if it was going to happen. We spotted this guy and went right at him. Eldon has a fake set of antlers and let the bull see us. The bull immediately began to rub his horns on the brush and we quickly movd closer. Unbelievably the bull let us move into bow range. I have to admit to being really excited. It wasn't the best shooting I have ever done but I got the job done. If you ever get a chace to hunt moose do it! It was one of the most exciting encounters of my hunting career. Had moose tenderloin last night. Unbelievably good eating. Thanks again to Eldon and Hunters Point. They know how to help bowhunters get it done. It was great spending a week with Biggie and Marty. Now I just want to do it again!
Way to hang in there and get it done Steve! Congrats
Steve that's awesome buddy!! There isn't 2 better guys to share a camp with :campfire:
How'd your Sitka work for you?
Nice moose Steve. :bigsmyl:
Guru, the Sitka Rain gear was awesome. I was out in the rain all day for 3 days and stayed dry as a bone. It made the weather tolerable. Really great stuff
Goodness.
I'm hungry!
Or I was, until I caught a whiff of dishpan hands, Marty making out and hearing that Biggie was Guru's Sweet Babu.
Can we just stick to hunting, y'all?
Killdeer :p
Biggie that's a super bull! Great pictrues.
That thing has to be huge...it even makes you look small.
Congradulations to both of you .You have some fine eating ahead.I an Jelous!
Great stuff both of you.
A lot of nice comments here...Thank-you all.
The guide did the hard part, all I had to do was shoot!
Way to go Steve! He looks plenty big enough!  And congratulations again Biggie!
Come on "Biggie" your killing us. Out with the story. Probably the closest most of us will ever be to a nice bull like that. Feed the fire my man.
QuoteOriginally posted by Biggie Hoffman:

That's why Eldon gets the "big bucks"!!!!!
Great bull Biggie! You've had ample time to rest up and down a few moose steaks.......now on with the story! :readit: I'm leaving Saturday for my moose hunt in WMD 17......I need a good story to get me fired up....wait.....I'm already fired up.....I guess I just need a good story!
:campfire:
Congrats! Those are some great bulls!
Congrats! to all...
Thanks for sharing.
Biggie, not bad at all for a Jones County redneck... even if you are an import. When you invite Sarah Palin over for moose burgers, give me a call. Congratulations on such a fine animal.
Congratulations to you both. They are fine looking animals. They will taste good too!!! :clapper:
Great bull, congrats!!!
WOW, what a moose. Just great
Way to go Biggie! Now no pictures of you dragging it around in your underwear, o.k.?
What a great animal (the moose). Congrats, well done Biggie!
Dang Tom, I wish I would've thought of that...that would have been too funny eh?
Ok......ya'll have been pretty patient with me. Marty and Uncle Gene have been on my butt to tell a little bit of the story. I'm gonna hold back some, cause I'm working on something for PBS and don't want to give it ALL away.
I went, I saw, I conquered....how's that?
Ok,,,,ok....
On Tuesday we came around the bend in the road to see a 40" bull standing there. While he was decideding wether or not to take on the truck, I dropped down into the woods to sneak up on him. I don't sneak as well as I used to and he turned and walked off into the bush.
I was dying to go up in there after him and after a half hour or so, I talked Paul into heading up the ridge to see why he''d gone up there. Had to be a reason right? Topped out and headed west towrds a clearcut when we came across a skidder trail that had 2 big fresh (That means they stunk really bad) wallows. Our bull had obviously just been there.
Paul had a bottle of cow urine in his pack and he sprayed the wallos down. As we went down the hill on the skidder trail we sprayed it all the way down to the road and as we suspected, came out right where he'd gone in earlier.
so.........
figuring this was his "route" we went on and hunted elsewhere, hoping he'd come back thru tomorrow. Same time, same trail.
Guess what? We were right! Or so we thought.....!!!
Biggie, is that one of Joey's Swamp Rooter bows that you used?
Yep.
Ok, just finished supper.
We saw bunches of moose.
The fall colors were spectacular!
So next day we met Marty and his guide for lunch before we went back to the "spot".
No moose. Paul called once and I heard the bull burp about 200 yards down the hill. We happened to be standing in the road and since the moose walk the roads alot, I got off into the bush WITH MY SWAMP ROOTER RECURVE MADE BY JOEY BUCHANAN and Paul moved up the road about 50 yards and starting calling. I could hear the bull coming closer but he hung up. Paul later told me that it crossed the trail about 200 yards down from where we were. He could see down the trail, I couldn't.
He sounded hung up to me and I looked back at Paul and saw him running towards the truck! WTH is going on? He grabs a black jacket and puts it on. He runs down the road towards me and I read his lips, "I'm going to let him see me".
Ok, I thought, I get it. The bull will think his cow is leaving.
He got down to where he could see around the corner and called once. Immediately the bull burped and I could tell he was coming. Paul started back up the road slowly, calling every few steps. When he got back into his original position, I could see him frantically trying to signel me to nock an arrow ON MY SWAMP ROOTER RECURVE MADE BY JOEY BUCHANAN. I figgered this would be a good chance to screw with him so I purposely DIDN'T nock an arrow 8-)
Awwww...
Can't you just PRETEND not to nock an arrow?
Killdeer :banghead:
QuoteOriginally posted by Biggie Hoffman:

That is just wrong on so many levels!!!!!!!!!
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Hah!
I could hear the bull closing the distance and knew he would pop out around the bushes in a few more seconds. I had to turn my back to him so I could shoot off my left side. I heard the burp that was the last one I'd hear before I saw him and nocked an arrow ON MY SWAMP ROOTER RECURVE MADE BY JOEY BUCHANAN. As soon as I placed my fingers on the string, I saw him. JEEZUS! those things are BIG! I couldn't have been any more surprised if a zebra had walked out!
He stopped short about 20 yards and was looking for his "cow". Paul took the hint and started moving up thru the bush cracking sticks and limbs. About this time, I could see the bull got a whiff of the cow pee we had sprayed around, between that and the visual, he started walking. Head rocking and a burp with each step.He stopped again perfectly broadside, 12 yards, but there were a few leaves in the way. I knew they wouldn't hinder the shot and I remember pulling an inch or two past my normal anchor hoping to at least sink in up to the feathers. There was no doubt that the SWAMP ROOTER RECURVE MADE BY JOEY BUCHANAN, would do the job. The arrow zipped thru him so fast, the guide told me afterwards he'd thought I'd mmmmmmmissed. Hah! says I.
The bull turned and walked back a few steps and stopped again. I considered another arrow but I knew I'd drilled him so I didn't want to spook him at all. Paul was calling still, trying to keep him there. I was looking hard for blood on his side but there was none. That's about the time a fella starts second guessing himself I guess but about that very second he coughed and I saw blood squirt out both sides 8-)
We called Marty and his guide Jim and waited for them to arrive before we started the track. Marty's my bestest bud and I wanted him there when we walked up to the bull.

Congrats Bigg Man Great bull and dandy story  :campfire: :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Good Times!! :campfire:
Wow. Way cool. Biggie that bull is so big you look small.
Steve, Congrats to you too. Nice bull too.
And nice video. Biggie you don't have an accent. You sound like you are from Minnesota.
Ya, shyoor.
Dream hunt, Bigster!
Now, that recovery was just plain wrong!
You are supposed to sweat and grunt and get overheated enough that you pack him out in your skivvies. Getting him into your skivvies would be a trick, though.
Killdeer :wavey:
Cool video's bud....cool "recovery" :clapper:
That ain't right. My back is still recovering from the pack out a couple weeks ago! WOW! Congrats again guys!
Thanks again guys....Killie, you kill me!
For those of you who are wondering what the recovery was, the next 4 posts are in order. Click on the pics for the videos.

That is some great stuff Biggie
Very cool - nice work!
Nice bull, congratulations. Great story, thanks for sharing.
Outstanding! :notworthy:
Biggie great reading and vidoes.
Congrats. :clapper: :clapper:
Your one of the people here that keeps me popping in and out here.
Funny how the big guys have the most humilty and sincerity..
If that aint the perfect example of "smarter not harder" damn slick recovery there.
Marty killed his the very next day and of course, he waited until it was 400 yards DOWN an embankment. That one, we had to cut up and pack out.
ps; it takes two 50+ year olds, with frequent stops, to drag one moose hindquarter uphill to the truck.
Appears to me that those guys have done that before. Sure beats hauling him out on your back "Biggie". You done good my friend. Congratulations.
Congrat's Biggie!
Now your my Idol, I've always wanted to Moose hunt. Great pics and story.
Congrats! Nice bull
WAY TO GO BIGGIE!!! I am proud of you brotha :bigsmyl:
The bull "burp"ed? Maybe he was really "glunk"ing? (southerners...)
Is that one of them Joey-hog-rooter bows?
We call it a grunt up here. Congrats Biggee.
Thanks for the story and the videos. Glad Maine was good to you!
yup...its official...Biggee...You're my hero.
Congrats.
Hauling a Moose out on a bedliner with a winch sure beats dragging a pig through a swamp by hand...
That's a beast. Congrats!
Congrats
That was just incredible! Congratulations again!
I like the video where the General is telling the locals how to drag the moose out?
biggie ,what is pulling the rope? Winch or truck? I would guess they would stretch the winch out as far then make a loop in rope and winch cable in to full length then do over again and again? Am I close
Listen Private Joebuck- a man's gotta know his
place- why don't you go up there and fix it!
Congrats to all of you! Those are all wonderful trophies.
Great job, both of you.
Congrats Biggie, that was pretty cool.......loved the first recovery, not so much the second! :scared:
David
cONGRADULATIONS BIG FELLER.
Congratulations Biggie!!! Thanks for sharing it with us!!!
Good stuff there !
Dan
Sweet bull Biggie loved to videos too. Great job and congratulations again ---Andrew
Biggie and Marty ... always the entertainers :smileystooges:
Congrats on a very nice moose Biggie
Congrats
Thanks again all....sorry it took so long to get it posted.
Those of you who've been around Marty know what a take charge guy he can be. It was hilarious watching him tell the guys what to do all week. Everyone would meet at Eldons taxidermy shop at 5am. When we'd first pull up to the shop in the morning, Marty would get out of the truck and yell; "Jimmy! Come get my stuff!" to his guide.
Now you know I was just messin with that guy, Biggie, I only order you and Joey around at camp so you have something to complain about! Remember -I still have ALLLLL the moose meat-you better be nice to me- Man is it the bomb!!!! I figure it's the only way to ever see you again after the hunt. Y'all know how to catch a Biggie(maybe a Wensel too) -Have a couple freezers full of moose!
Looked at all the pics before watching the videos and wondered how you got that thing into the back of a truck!
Congrats, Biggie!
way to go :notworthy:
:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Marty is the best...Marty is the best....Marty is the best.....Marty.....please don't eat my share of the meat!
Thanks for sharing that guys....the read, the pics, and the vids.....thanks again. :campfire:
Have I missed it? Where is the thread on Marty's moose?
Won't be a story bout mine here- shot it with a rifle last day. I stupidly passed a small bull at 8ft the first day! As a subpermit holder it is kinda expected to take one the last day for them to get half the meat. Mine was a beauty at 52".
Nice job Biggie. Marty invited Carcass down for a moose feast. I wasn't sure he had enough meat for him until I realized he had one moose for the each of them. You better get over there soon. I saw Carcass gassing up the Subaru and heading south. He should be there by Sunday or Monday. Ha!
Dang! That boy can eat too!
What moose meat?????
What time is the moose feast? I have a figure to maintain!
Congrats Wayne! You da man! Rest up and enjoy the rewards from a wonderful hunt. I'm a bit late to this party but I'm happy for you.
oh wow im so excited! cany wait!
