Title: What glue for attaching rest materials to shelf?
Post by: Chris Shelton on September 28, 2010, 05:59:00 PM
Well like a lot of you I like to do things myself so I don't have a adhesive backed rest to put on my longbow. Instead I have some felt, fake fur, and real fur to conjure up some contraption. Until now I have been shooting without a rest, just bare shelf. I was very tempted to not throw anything on, but then I thought why not . . . so what kind of glue? Regular elmers, fletch tite, two part epoxy??

Chris, you can use Shoe-Goo. It holds great and easy to remove later.Rolls up with your thumb and wont hurt your finish.

Contact cement works great, when your done you can roll off the dried stuff with your thumb. I like to use a piece of velcro, wears like iron.

Mike (Weldwood contact cement 5.99 quart lasts a long time)

I use Pliobond contact cement. It does not get hard and brittle and it removes with acetone.

Shoe goo will fix anything!  Still, I think the very best approach is to use adhesive-backed velcro (use the soft "loop" side and discard the scratchy "hook" side).

I prefer weldwood contact cement.
The 'permanent' outdoor carpet tape works well, like Don said.  I have one of my forging hammers hanging from a cabinet as a test of the stuff!

In a pinch I use fletch tape.  It works really well.
