I thought it might be cool if folks posted photographs of themselves with game taken, or perhaps just the game alone and maybe your bow laying with it...whatever.. In an effort to do a better job myself of taking these photographs, I thought it might be cool to see the different angles and set ups that you've all done. Might be a great way to help us all become better at taking these shots. If you can remember any of the details, such as the size lens used, flash or no flash, etc..., please include that as well.
Thanks,
Chuck
Chuck, i will get something together shortly :archer2:
Here's a buck I took in 2007. He never knew what hit him...he didn't make it 40 yards and crashed!

I like this photo because I can see everything that replays the hunt in my mind. An arrow my daughter and I made, my longbow, and my first elk. I would have liked to clean up the animal some as the other pics I have are a little blood. Shot with a Cannon Si1100 with a self timer.

I never have worried much about what I threw in my pack for a camera but this year it got me. I killed a nice 7x7 bull with my longbow last Tuesday around 6:30pm. Although the sun was barely going down the junk disposable I was carrying didn't expose any of the photos from up on the hill so the only photos I have are from the next morning back at camp. Not a huge deal but for people who love the photo memories I recommend carrying a little better camera...Shawn

This is kind of a morbid photo but I sneeked in on this young goat and shot him in his bed at 30 yards. (very long shot for me) The snuffer hole was just too cool to cover up...

PIC TOO BIG....No larger than 640 pxl wide please
OK , tried resizing and have edited, deleted and added this resized one of the original, how does this one fit in, bit unsure on the sizing thing. Cheers
I don't know much about lenses.....
But, I can tell you to watch out for anything blocking the view....saplings, grass, leaves etc. Watch for the sun spots on you, your animal, and the ground around....try to get all sun or all shade...half and half don't look good.
And get low for the pic....and get lots of shots from several angles.
It might take 10 pics to get that perfect one.....but that perfect one will be special.

Great pic brother!!
Some set ups I have done with the selftimer on my favourite game animals. And I guess these are some of my favourite pics.
I am not a photographers you know what, but there is nothing I dislike more than a photo of downed game where no time or effort has been put into setting the animal up for the shot or to get the camera in a half decent position for a self timed shot if hunting solo. If you shoot something the night before and don't recover till the next day, fair enough, but if it is a fresh kill then spending a bit of time setting the animal up makes for a far better photo.
I like to try and set them up so you can see the horns, tusks or antlers of the animal.

Ok, I'll limit this to some of my whitetails.
Couple of the "rules" for hero pics I like to follow:
1. Display the animal to his best advantage...but don't get crazy. The fish eye lens closeup that makes his rack look 4 ft wide tends to be over the top and turn me off. If he was big enough for you to shoot you don't need to try to inflate him too much.
2. Take PLENTY of pictures - should be a no-brainer with digital.
3. Take some flash pictures - even in the daylight - the pics I end up liking best are virtually always fill-flashed.
4. Take pics in the field prior to field dressing if possible - they turn out much better.
5. Almost forgot...the ANIMAL is the focal point of the picture, not the hunter - keep this in mind and when you set up the pic center the animal in the shot.
OK....here goes....

Might want to try and scan them and send them to someone who knows photoshop....maybe they can lighten them up a bit. [/b]
I know a bit about photoshop.
Send your scanned pics to me and I'll try to doc em up.
Here's another example of what Ryan was talking about....
Hidden Horns in the camo....

Same Deer with Brow Tines hidden in the cane...

Cropped in not as hidden....
Another angle....Wish I'd have taken this buck to a field and either gotten green grass behind it or blue sky. Just remember....the more jumbled up the background and low contrast the harder its going be to see the horns.

Great view of the head gear, but I lost my eyes...
The rack needed just a bit more tilt to the left to free it up in the blue....this is why you take LOTS of pics.

The only problem with this photo is I look pissed at the world. Really the sun is shining in my eyes and Im trying to smile but am being blinded at the same time.
Same deer different angle.

This is one of my favorites....but for some reason it NEVER posts as clear on the net as it does on my monitor or printed out....the pic is really crisp in true life....the flash was on or this pic would have not been very good.

Man, what a ride. Some great photos, and great seeing so many of the people on the site. Been her before, but when you only have two trad kills, you have to go with what you have :goldtooth:
I regret that my bow is not in the photo, but we
were tracking on Sunday, and since there is no hunting on Sunday here, I didn't want to risk any issues with the law.

The springbok was 'technically' a terrible shot. She was laid down behind the buck I was shooting at. When they heard shot, unfortunately he ducked & she stood up. Missed him complety & hit her taking out every artery above her heart. She didn't even take a step.
Keep them coming , i'm really enjoying this! Can anyone tell me where i can get a little bit Bigger capeing knife??LOL (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x132/recurvehunter_2007/bear3.jpg)

I never expected the amount of fantastic photos and composition that is being posted. I am going to save this thread link so I can return to it whenever I want. These photos are so inspiring and definitely represent everthing that I love about our traditional style of hunting. You guys are great!

Some ripping photos in the post, but for me the standout is Texas Bubba with his hand on the doe. They say a picture tells a thousand words, and I love the story that photo tells - Well done mate.

This is one of my favorite pics. Not a big deer at all, in fact, it is the smallest buck I have killed besides a button buck. I like it for two reasons, my boys, of course, and the bow is Miss Hope 2010.

This a very special one for me. I had about halfway healed from a torn calf and this was my first few days of being back in the swamp. Killed this buck under a water oak 2 miles from the truck..
