Pretty pumped about our saturday opener.
This year has been somewhat more stressfull than past for various reasons.I really need the recharge time out in the stand for sure.
Lets hear where the rest of the green mountain crew will be hunting on gameday...setup pics...past trohpies..
I'll be heading about 200 yards out the front door saturday across the road to a new stand here in Wells on gameday morning. Will have my trusty Silvertip in hand with some surewoods and 145 Ace standards in my great northern side mount.

This was in 06 and it was my first trad kill and hopin to end the 3 years without getting one this year. All I no is this year feels good!
Great deer right there Schafer!
Here's mine from last year

One thing will be different this year..None of that scent lok for me.Went to vintage camo this year.
Good luck to all my fellow Vermonters this year.
Randy.
Most of my set-ups involve acorns and I'm worried that they'll be all gone by next weekend. Hopefully I'm wrong, I'm not usually.
I hear ya greg. My spots too are acorn spots and many have already fallen. They are in good funnels, however, so I still should get some activity.
Sounds good guys. From what I've seen this year during squirrel hunts the acrons and Hickory nuts are insane this year.I have the good fortune of having 14 acres of Hemlock and pine..so all I have are travel areas.I did plant an acre of corn this year so we'll see if it improves things.Got a big boy running around and a couple smaller boys.Would like to hammer a doe early so I can buck hunt the rest of the time.
Then again we all know how trying to plan deer season goes. :readit:
Don't have a lot of acorns on my properties in Poultney and Hubbardton but do have some apple to try. Not going to Ohio this ye3 so I will be concentrating more at home and in Hebron NY. Gonna try my Elburg longbow first and if I get lucky will sdwith to a Bear Kodiak hunter. Have got trail cam photos of 4 shooter bucks on my. Properrt. Good luck boys.
Schafer and I set this stand up to practice out of this past weekend :archer2: and we also did a bit of squirrell looking. The leaves are really coming along nicely. really looking forward to some tree time this weekend.

Great pics Greg.
I've got a ladder stand setup in the yard for year round for shooting(Just one of the cheap ones from Dick's).Really helps out the confidence level.
Looks like the trees are turned about as far along up there as ours are.
Craig...I wanted to get a NY license this year too.Got a moose hunt next month and headed to OH in Nov so can't swing it this year.Next year def!
Rich I have hunted Ohio 5 years in a row great place killed a lot of good buck there we have a good spot can't go this year family obligations but will be back there next year. Ohio has spoiled me but Hebron is fun and so is here. If things chane for you and ytou do go to NY thisyear let me know got a good place there me and Jerry hunt scouted it last weekend plenty of deer. If this is yopurr first time in Ohio hang on about November 5 or 6n when the rut kicks in it is enough to make a Vermont boy wet his pants. I sure didm good luck
Hey Rich, how 'bout some pics modeling the new camo! :clapper:
Absoulutely Greg..will have some after they come out of the wash.
Rich....you ain't back from the brook yet? :bigsmyl:
Just got back..

Pretty cool huh?Snagged em off fleabey for less then 20.I also have some of the tan background dot camo as well, but my stands are in hemlocks and pines so I needed darker.Took me a LONG time to find this getup.Never thought I'd see another one.My dad had a set back in the 70's that I cut up a while ago to make stuff out of.
Nice duds. I figured you were talking about some plaid woolies when you mentioned vintage. I'm old enough to have worn some of that when I was younger.
Oh heck I got some of that stuff already.Plenty of woolens for later in the season.
TWO more days guys!!
:D :archer2:
Not sure what elbow is talking about, our deer season stinks! I Can't imagine why I keep seeing so many green plates in NOvember?
Actually my good friends in Vermont hardly bowhunt there much, they seem to keep coming down to see me now. Ohio has spoiled them.
I do miss hunting the Vermont woods though I grew up rifle hunting there. Sad to see so much land getting posted. That is getting worse in a lot of places here too.
Wish you all good luck in the green Mtn State, and those of you coming to buckeye land.
I'll be at our huntin' camp with my best (Bow) hunting friend...like our 6th in a row. So opening weekend is decidated to this hunt! Will try to post pic' if I remember!!! Good huntin to all!
Rich,
that Camo looks like some of the stuff the BRIT's use to wear along time ago! Good pattern and it works great!
Rickey,where are you guys hunting?
I have no doubts that camo is good stuff.I'm sure plenty of hunters took lots of animals in it before the comercial camo craze. Can't wait to hunt a little in it.

I'll be in OH this year.Uh yeah...not sure why...the hunting isn't good anyways... :knothead:
One more day boys.. :D
Yesterday on the way home I saw a large bear cross the road about 2 miles from where I will be hunting. This am I was having my morning coffee on my front porch and a bobcat ran up the road wwith a squirrell in its mouth. Gosh I can't wait to get in the woods Saturday!
Nice Craig!I've been seeing deer and turkeys pretty regular down by my corn field.Hope to get my first fall bird this year too.
I've been down stairs sharpening up broadheads for everyone this whole week.I like to do mine the night before.Opening day ritual I guess.
Rich, I did mine tonight. Will do Schafer's tomorrow night to keep the friday night ritual intact.
I have got 3 sharp (Razorheads) got one more top do tomorrow night. Shot the Elburg longbow tonight think I am dialed in. About 36 hour to go !
Good luck to everyone in the morning. Should be some heavy feeding activity as soon as this rain lets up. If we're lucky, it'll stop right around sunrise.
Good luck guys.
A wake up now..
Rain has let up here and I can see blue finally.
Good luck to every one tomarrow!
All done sharpening my BH's.I'm officially ready!
Good luck to everyone.
I'm headed out right now.
Good luck again boys.
Go get em Rich!
Bill
It'll be dark soon. hope for good reports.
:campfire:
No deer sighting today.Hoping for a better morning hunt.
Anyone else score?
Schafer and I both had a big zip.
Sounds as if NY and VT are similar!

At least NY had enough sense to put their bow season over the rut instead of end it the week before it starts like VT..
JP (jeeps84) missed. A fat doe. All I saw was tree rats
Haven't shot with JP in forever.Hopefully he'll score later.
Sounds like everything I saw too Craig.
Tried the apples toinight guess ill mov e to acorns in morning. Good luck all.
Acorns everywhere out where I was. The wind was moving along pretty good and with the ground so wet I saw a couple of trees come down. Deer weren't moving but I figured I'd better. LOL Couldn't hunt the afternoon because of family commitments, back at it tomorrow though.
Good luck Dave...I'm out in a few.
Well day 2 was better then the 1st. Today i was in a stand sitting over alot of acorns and i had a deer come in. At the time i thought it was a desent size doe. Little did i no that i had just missed twice on a skipper as i saw the mom walk up the middle of the ridge to far to shoot. I didnt relise just how small the deer i had shot at because i havent seen a big deer hunting untill today. So today was overall good experience even though my arrows found the dirt and not the deer.
Schafer
Schafer, the best way to tell those skippers from mamas is look at the nose size.
At least you got some action today. And you made clean misses.
Better luck next time out.
I had a mom and a fawn come by around 7 but no other deer.Played with the squirrels a bit but no luck.I'm back out in a few.
Just at the end of the day I saw a doe with twins that still needed her so she got a pass. A spike, not legal and a big one too far away to get a count on his rack but he was a shooter for here. At least I know one good one is in there.
Nothing tonite except for a gray fox.Checked out in the field as I was leaving stand and they were out by the corn.
Finally saw a doe last night 20 yards but no shot brush. Will try again tonight hope the action picks up
Sat at one of my apple tree stands tonight and saw a total of no deer. Might have to give up on the apple trees in the pm and head to the oaks.
Last night I sat in my corn and blew a possible shot at a deer.Unsure of what it was.
Yes i missed a doe 15 yards under a oak tree. I saw the arrow went right where i was looking. right over her back it went though. i think she ducked on realese. oh well maybe this weekend. I will be in where all the nuts are. apples are a waist of time right now. good luck everyone! JP
6 hunts so far, only seen deer twice. Almost killed a doe, but the wind swirled right before she made the final step to clear some brush, and shot over ones back. Hoping tonight is the night.
No shots yet for me...not even an opportunity yet.Have seen deer.Nothing tonite.
This dry year has changed our deer herd's patterns here around the house very drastically.
Sat in the oaks tonight. I guess they found a sampling of acorns in a different patch of woods. :banghead:
I sat the oaks too saw nothing but my son chris shot a coyote withg his Hoyt Pro Hunter 45@28 2016 and an old razorhead his first trad kill off the ground too!

Sweet!Kill all them yotes!
Elbow, tell Chris congratulations for me. I agree with Rich, they start howling seems like every night before I even get out of my stand. Get Chris to join the gang!
Hey Rich, I don't think the vintage camo is going to cut it in the morning. Better break out the woolies.
I've had the woolens on most of the time haha.Been pretty chilly.
This thread got awful quiet!
8 sits one deer. going to try the white oaks in hebron tomorrow. Anyone seeing anything?
Vermonter1 got his first Trad deer this week. A 6 point at 10 yards. He needs to post the story.

Yea come on Dale tell the story bud!
Well we're back from the moose hunt.We scored at 930 on opening day,a 616# cow.We lucked out and had fresh tracking snow so we hopped on the first track we cut and took the cow right in her bed about a mile and a half later.2 1/2 miles later we had her dragged out and back at the truck. It was work but fun.
Even better is I get to bowhunt this week now as we've got a moose down.
