Went on a short two day hunt with my "Mentor of the swamp" Brother John Bookhart. He took me under his wing years ago and we have spent man y hours in the swamp and on the River.A devout Christian full of humble wisdom and knowing him has made me a better man.
The weather was hot but game was around. I almost got shots twice on the ground on deer but managed to run them off trying to get five yards closer.Saw deer from the stand the only time I climbed that were a bit to far.
Brother John sat on some crabbapples that were a bit ahead of all the ones I checked and shot this Buck at 7 yards with his 45 pound longbow with a bear razorhead glued on a 100 grain steel insert and 2020 shaft. His 4th deer of the year and first for the year from a tree.
Johns going for surgery on sunday, their gonna put "stints"? in him and tune him up a bit he sez. He`s done told me I better not be on his red oaks while hes gone. Love Ya Brother,RC.

Nice buck John  he will be in my prayers and so will you RC if you move in on those red oaks.
Thanks for sharing RC,prayers for bro John.
Congrats to John and thanks for sharing RC.
Psa. 133:1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! 2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes. 3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
My grandfather went in for open heart surgery 2 years ago to replace a valve (the first replacement valve lasted 20 years) and some other things. The way he described it you would think they were replacing parts on the truck. Tough old guy that is very apssionate about the outdoors and hunting and still goes out with us every year.
A mentor and friend is a beautiful thing. Best of luck for a speedy recovery. Docs are pretty good these days. What they are doing to them is about as routine as puttin in a new set of spark plugs.
Way to go Brother John! Prayers sent for a successful tune-up!

Congrats to him on the buck. Good luck to him with the surgery. Joe
This really strikes home with me. Not that I have a mentor that is religious, but this weekend I spent time with a man that has many of those same attributes. I believe over time he will make me a better man also.
Congrats.
Congrats to you both. Its great to have friends you can share the traditional experience with.
The best friend is one that makes you better, you are surely Blessed to have a friend of such qualities. God Speed to John on his Tune-up, hoping he can be sittin' his Red Oaks in short order.

Still praying. You better stay away from those red oaks RC. :saywhat:
Prayers sent just now Robert.
Same prayers here RC. It'll happen soon enough he'll adjust to the stints.
:campfire:
Make sure John is up & moving. Taking it to easy after will prolong his recovery. Doing to much is bad as well so try to find that happy medium. I am a to much to soon kind of guy but my issues were not heart related. Have worked in the hospital doing Respiratory and sleep medicine for 20 years now. Getting going after surgery like that is tough but much needed. Best of luck,
