Is this a common disease with Trads? I can't think of a single compound shooter I know who has more than a couple bows. I can't think of a Trad who has fewer than 2.
(or is it just me... please tell me I'm not in the minority)
We do seriously need to start our own chapter of B.A. here. It is a serious illness, but what a way to go.....
Good Shooting,
Craig

What are you guys talking about? Ive only got 6 widows 1 habu 1hawk oh never mind Im busted.
I just got started (in my adult life that includes a source of income) in June. There are four shootable bows hanging in my boiler room right now, and two partially completed bows in my shop. I didn't even make it home with the new Dorado last week before I was contemplating that I also needed a Hill longbow.
I can only imagine how bad it gets with more time. Right now I need to get some kid bows (all three daughters have the bug), and a wife bow (or two?)
I only have three old bows I don't shoot on the wall and three shooters. It is the variety that makes it hard to stop at one. There is just way to many woods, lengths, take down options, and the draw weight options just make the possibilities endless.
I never had more than one compound. They just are not that different or nice to look at. I always saw them as a hunting tool. I only needed one real good shooter at a time.
I have 30 guns so it is not just trad bows. Now those come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, uses, and many have some nice wood.
Im lucky, havent got the money for so many bows....wait i guess Im unlucky.
I have thought about seeking the opinion of a therapist to determine the source of my addiction but I realized that whatever I spent on therapy would take away from buying another bow. :D Seriously, I would like to know what causes it, as I am afflicted. Is it the lure of the "Magic Bow", the variety, the thrill of rushing home with a new one or is it more based on greed? Don't know but do know I have it.
You'd think a compound guy would have a half doz each, just to keep one running.
Bowmania
I hope my affliction for buying multiple recurves is due to my search for the right one. Or is the right ones?
I do like a great looking recurve with exotic woods and beautiful workmanship. I've bought several that fit this bill. But I don't give a hoot for the best looking one if I can't shoot or don't enjoy shooting it. Beginning with the last three bows I ordered (Rose Oak, The Stick, Schafer Silvertip), I have to "test-drive" the bow before I'll commit.
Hello my name is Manny and I am a bow... :bigsmyl:
Actually, I still live by the rule of only one bow a yer :) :) :)
And the doghouse gets comfier every year LOL

I think a better version might be "Who ever dies with the most toys, still dies.. and his wife gets to sell all his bows and paaarrrtttyy!!!!!!..lol
God bless,Mudd
PS: I don't need another bow... I don't need another bow... really.. I don't need another bow!!
When I was shooting compounds, I mean compound, there was only one. I converted back to traditional archery about three years ago, and suddenly there were two, then four, then six. And then I discovered longbows, and, oh, well. Still trying to figure out what happened. So is my wife.
I like to have at least five or six on hand at all times and a few as trading material. I always have the want for the ones I haven't tried yet !!! This doesn't seem like much of a problem to me !! The wife on the other hand...... Well enough said !!!
I don't like being called names, I gave away ten bows last year. i only have eight active bows right now and my wife is down to four. but hey, I know a guy down the road that has it real bad. why don't we go down there and do his wife a favor and roll that sorry bowoholic and take his bows away. I heard that he had to sell his pickup to pay for a new bow, it's time for an intervention.
i am fine with the few bows i own UNTILL i go to Ron W's house and shoot his collection!!!
I am a bowaholic!
I started with 4 and now I am up to 15 for me and 6 for the kids!
Help I can't beat the addiction
If you havnt got the sickness then its time to move on.......
Somebody has to keep the economy moving... :)

But it sucks to think she sold them for what you told her you paid for them, or what she thinks they are worth...
Someone is going to have a VERY lucky day with my firearm and bow collection.

Why does he need an intervention? Did he not get enough bow for his truck? :D
I have only got 3 shooters, 2 for me and 1 for my wife. And my shooters are a hybrid long bow and a recurve, I don't think I am addicted yet. Ty
My name is Donald and I am a Bowholic.
6 on the rack and one on the way.
Ummmm, let's see--I'm down to 19 on the rack and all of them get shot. I'm the most blessed man in the world--my wife says I can have all the bows I want as long as she's the only woman. Gotta love a gal like that.
David, That is a smart wife. bows are cheaper than the other woman and cause a lot less trouble.
To many bows? Thats like to much money, to pretty of a wife, and to fast of a car. "Ain't no such thing!"

i kinda lost track how many i have.somewhere like 25-30 or so.started making selfbows a few years ago so as a friend says as my wood pile decreases my bow racks increase.
I caught it young, I'm 18 have 3 and one on the way... But on the plus side i have my next few planned out! oh wait college next year, crap...
Guilty, my wife just shakes her head. (sometimes her fist :) ) I always counter... at least I don't drink or gamble.... Really does the trick usually. PS As much as we prize our collections, when we die our wifes will dump them fast and cheap. Believe me, I've been on the good side of that phenomenon.
I only have 3, I guess I am just a social bow user and not a bowaholic. Denial is the first stage.
Its all these enablers here on the website that feed the addiction. They are like pushers taking advantage of the afflicted who have lost all control of thier rational senses.Teasing with graphic pictures and singing the praises of the bow you know you cant live without. That you have been dreaming about. That you cant live without. That you would die for.
In the end its a healthy obsession,a fun hobbie and its always nice to have another bow to look forward to trying, admiring, flinging arrows from and enabling another Bowahhlic to give it a whirl as well when it moves along. Then thiers the keepers that stay on the rack to enjoy for many years. That just fit you right. The search for the Holy Grail of bows beats on.
Enjoy the ride and hit the Bowaholic meeting when you feel your loosing control and ready to mortgage the house, find yourself foraging through your wifes jewelry box to see what you could pawn,Slipping her wedding ring from her ring finger gracefully when she sleeps, sale your favorite hunting dog or skimming from the kids college fund.
Those are serious red flags that you have issues in the bowaholics handbook.
It's just one of those things. You can never have too many bow. Right now I have 6 or 7.
I had it pretty bad for awhile, but then I took the cure (thought I found "The One"). I went for more than a year without buying a bow.
In the past year I discovered how cool the old Bears, Damon Howatt's, etc. are. Talk about an addiction! These things breed like rabbits and are taking over my shop! They are totally out of control! I need help!
My wife says you can only shoot one at a time, so why do you have 7 Bows in the rack down stairs. One guy does not need 7 bows! Oh I forgot about the rack on the wall upstairs, thats 3 more, that makes 10. Why does One guy have 10 bows, Oh I didn't see the 2 bows in your man cave (Reloading/Gun room) Thats 12 bows, She says she gives up, But 12 Bows. I didn't tell her about the 2 I have on Order!!! Hope I am still alive in the Spring so I can enjoy shooting Them. God Bless Don
I just last night talked to a bowyer for an hour. Got on the list...My name is KentuckyTJ and I have a problem.
Spring is just around the corner........must have new toys....must have new toys!
Tom has really a lot of problems with bows,LOL,but I am sane I have just 90 so I can consider my self a almost one bow man!
Well the problem is that every bow is really different from the other with so many stunning woods and combinations. Our bows have a soul, the compounds are just machines. Our bows are piece of art, like a cabinet maker piece of fourniture. We shoot bow that are 50 years old ,not so with the compound they become obsolete after 2 years.
Not that I was ever on the wagon but this past week I really and I mean really fell off it with buying: Shrew Chameleon, Thunderhorn 3pc w/2sets of limbs, 12" A&H 58" 3pc, Centaur triple carbon, Robertson 3pc longbow and a Black Canyon 3pc longbow. I'll have to wait for the Robertson and Black Canyon but the other three are on the way. "I've got a major problem." I like to make traditional archery harder than it really is by shooting a new bow every month or maybe even every week.
For some reason my wife can't understand that like guns, bottles of whisky and fishing rods, you can't have too many bows!
I really think I've found my cure. I been receiving therapy. You might wanna try Drs. McCullough and Coffey.
Larry
Jake you will be healed when you send all your bows to me,I'l handle the evil addiction for you. :bigsmyl:
when i get a bow i keep it one bow guy now waiting for comments lol :D
Now thats funny, that tree in the yard must have burnt down.
My name is Thomas, I'm a bowoholic... this is made worse by the fact someone(who shall remain nameless) got me started building them. I am down to 5 shooters and two in the works in my shop.
I'm running out of places to hide bows from my wife because the usual hiding places are full of fishing rods :-(
My girlfriend thinks I must be the luckiest guy on earth because I always win bows in raffles :goldtooth:
I hope my wife doesn't ever find out what I have actually spent on bows, or hunts for that matter. Thank God for slush funds. I try to pay cash for everything like trips to Walmart for the fam, or dinner. It's amazing how much cash you can rat-hole away by pocketing the change :)
I currently have 4 bows and 2 on order. I need some type of counseling or something...
One of the best sayings I've heard is "I hope if some happens to me my wife doesn't sell my bows for what I told her I paid for them"
Fifteen and counting
I really needed this thread. I was starting to feel guilty and that I was the only one with a problem.
Whew! Glad to know I am part of such a distiguished club.
I have heard the expression, "Fear the Man with only one bow".
My expression is, "Fear the wife when she sees how many bows I have".
Matt
Being laid off from 3 jobs in the past 4 years will cure this disease. I'm lucky I got the one.
I think this addiction has something to do with Tradgang,I started shooting trad in the late 80's I had 2 bows till I found Tradgang about 5 years ago now I have 13 and 1 0n the way. :knothead:
I had 5 or 6 at one time plus a wheelie... then my son was born and the collection quickly sold to pay the bills...
Kinda miss the Robertson Vision Falcon IV the most.... (sigh)
