I was wondering how much you spend on average a year to hunt. This means License and equipment and such.If you hunt other states list that cost separate.
And what is your average harvest numbers. :coffee:
Are you kidding? I'll NEVER put it in writing! :)
Well, I don't buy alot of new stuff, so this does not include my bow or arrows. If you want to spread that cost out it would be a Robertson Primal Styk, some stitka spruce shafts from the feathered shaft and some Ace super express heads. totaling about $650
eqpt-$650
liscense-$25
usually walk to a stand-$0
Same treestands for years-$0
same camo for years-$0
get about 4 or 5 deer a year.
out of state
gas-$175
camp supplies-$200
Out of state liscense-$250
pope and younge buck-$$priceless
1 buck
1 doe
1 or 2 turkeys
Missouri used to sell doe tags for $7. I would by my liscense and $49 in doe tags. AAhhh the good old days...
Never write it down. If I did my wife would know and a man doesn't need that :scared:
well, so far this year i've spent approximately $1000 on planting my foodplots THREE times. hope the third time is the charm!
As said above,if the wife ever saw the real $$$ spent on this hobby...
Well enough said on that....
What she sees is about 500$ a year.
Later......Buzz
Except for out-of-state hunts every few years, my hunting costs are basically a wash. I've done the math and the 150-200 pounds of meat I get every year costs me about $3 a pound. I can't count on getting anything store bought except chicken or burger for that.
I have a lifetime license that paid for itself 4 years ago and I make or trade almost everything I use. I did buy a leafy suit and some broadheads on sale this year. Thankfully I have a couple real good private places to hunt that are owned by friends or family so I don't have to resort to leasing. Almost all my costs are gas money. I am very blessed and thankful.
My out-of-state hunts are paid for out of extra money I earn selling wood or bow blanks.
Whatever it takes......
Don't want to keep track of spending on stuff I like.................
I smell a trap.
I end up between 4/5k
This is a perfect example of why we shouldn't repeal "Don't ask don't tell!"
:nono:
Texas Hunting License = $25.00
Gas = depends on where I'm going - $65.00/$325.00
Archery Equipment (string, shafts, feathers, Broadheads) = $100.00+/-
Food = depends on where I'm going - $50.00 for a week
Bowhunting, Rifle Hunting, Muzzleloader Season? Which State, which license?
Keeps me sane the rest of the year. Charge it to Medical expense.
More than I should is the answers. Don't ask, don't tell. LOL
sam
More than I should, less than I would if I had other vices.
I was curious about this myself. Arizona is a little more expensive than other states even for in state but i did figure it out. With my tag, license, fuel and food for the hunt, processing fees, the bull elk I shot this year will cost me about 3.50 a pound. Now it was a large bodied bull but still not too bad considering the quality of the meat and the fun I had. That is the beauty of archery hunting, it does not have to be overly expensive.
$55 for an all inclusive hunting/fishing license and I spent about $20 for a pack of broadheads.
I've averaged 1 deer a year over the last few years.
Golf is a completely different story ...
Hunt Club = $150.00
License & tags = $54.00 + fishing license
Gear = $100.00
I normally take 1 - 3 Deer a year on average.
Not much anymore, unless I buy a new bow. I did buy 1/2 dozen carbons this year, and a new glove.
....no comment. Considering I am looking to purchase some land....big no comment
"equipment"....? That doesn't include bows does it? I'd rather not think about it. Whatever it is, it is sure worth it!
To stinkin much!
I had to put several bows the other day cause it's a couple weeks till season and I can;t quit shooting them. I dedicated myself to my selfbow I made and my Striker for the early season.
I could pay an extra four or five months on my morgage every year if I didn't hunt but what kind of life would that be. I always say I don't any new gear but always end up spending about a grand or better and that don't include tags or anything else.
license-- free (lifetime license has paid for itself already in tags over the years)
Dozen arrows -- 80 bucks
Broadheads -- 25
Thats about it unless its one of those years I need to replace a jacket or pair of pants. But other than that i spend more money each year on turkey hunting than i do on three months of deer season.
Turkey Season is something like this
Custom Call - 40
Face mask/gloves - 25
Travel/Lodging for out of state - 300
Tags - 120
But my wife and I agree Im a terrible person to live with, if I dont get to hunt. So the both of us consider it to be priceless. hahahaha
Finally got her around to my kind of thinking.
If I count the bows, this would be my most expensive year ever. But, I'll count only one of them since that's all I'm hunting with.
--KY License -- $110
--IN NR License -- $150
--Sika Camo Clothing/Packs--$600 (but I like it)
--The Stick (recurve)-- $800
--Broadheads -- $40
--Bow quiver -- $110
--2 Shooting Gloves -- $40
-- Fuel for IN -- $300
-- 2 trail cameras -- $357
I think that's it for this year. Usually, I don't buy any bows but I'll buy a tree stand. This is the first year I've bought Sika camo and the first time I've bought trail cameras. Looks like around $2,500. That would have been 1/6th of my annual salary in 1978!
Ouch.... I don't think I'll play this game of tattle-tale again!
I save money because:
--Don't smoke
--Don't gamble
--Don't drink
--Don't party
If I included fuel to scout all summer...!
I consider what I spend part of my vacation/recreational/mental health/physical health allowance.
With tags, fuel and being smart about equipment probably 350.00 to 450.00.
I need to eat anyway so don't figure in food.
Joshua
This year thousands. I spent most of it rigging out 6 other shooters of which I am hunting with 3 of them. For me usually $300 to $500 a year.
Second year of trad and looking to make my first longbow kill this weekend. Got blown out by the wind a lot chasing elk early season.
Between too much and way too much!

Are we talkin' what I actually spend or what I tell my wife I spend??? :biglaugh:
I'll say 10% of my net income on average. That is what it has been for my whole adult life. Thank God my income keeps going up every year ;)
Well I think this year will cost more than any of the others for me. I am gonna get myself a Canon GL2, for filming my hunts . . . looks like the cheapest I can get that for is a grand! So basically I have no money for anything else :biglaugh:
no in all seriousness that purchase really goes under "business investment" but it will get some hours in the woods as well.
I would say that in between the fall and spring season's I buy a couple dozen shafts and other materials I need. Usually I only spend that money plus 70 bucks for my lisence. Maybe 200 total dollars, but this year I need clothing, so I expect something close to 450!?! But I have not bought the clothing yet, so I really don't know, lol
Out of state license - $300.00
Gas and lodging - $400.00
New equipment - $100.00
Picture of me with my deer - Priceless
Like im going to answer that ! . My wife mifght see this. Realy have no clue .
Well, In North Dakota about $50.00 in licenses.
In Minnesota about $1000.00 because I pay about $800 a year in taxes alone on some hunting property, plus nonres license.
Equipment this year ran about $650, (new to me bow,new camo).
Gas probably $300-$400. So I am pushing past two grand.
As compared to what ?
Hmmm, are you going to tell my wife??? Actually, this year will be minimal. I have purchased between one and two hundred dollars worth of arrow shafts, feathers, strings, a couple super nice knives because I only ever bought walmart specials, and maybe a glove or two. Last year, well $960.00 for a lifetime license but so far I saved a 110 bucks for this year. And another new black widow last year. She knows how much they cost, though. And a bunch of nice wool so I may be all set for quite awhile. Other stuff I aquired this year was by trade, so I only have shipping invested. No deer last year but I enjoyed every minute in the mountains.
I never think of bows, hunting, guns, deer, camp, boots, sleeping bags or anything else pertaining to my pursuit of the Connection in the same brain cell with money. I buy what I need, and can afford.
Killdeer
I don't even begin to try to keep up with it. I'm just happy if I've got the money to buy whatever I need when I need it.
Let's See Now......... I like to think that I earn my time away from home, work and the wife to hunt. Not gonna put it in $$$ terms, just time equal spent like.
Nine days straight of second floor renovations means... The first nine days of Archery Season belong to me! Get the picture? Take care of stuff at home and the rest is gravy. ;)
... mike ...
PS... I told Joe Skipp I'd be in the woods a lot this season. Better make good.....
That's why UPS delivers to my office! Beav
enough
This year I will have about $35 in hunting expenses. Hopefully success will be high since I am hunting at the end of my road in a quiet area that is left alone. First time hunting this close to my house in years! No gas money!

YEP!!! :bigsmyl: :jumper:
It's so variable due to drawing or not drawing tags, buying landowner permits, sharing costs with hunting buddies, etc, etc, that I couldn't ever come up with an average figure--probably don't want to know, either!
Do any of us really want to admit that.lol
Share your bounty with the rest of the world. The rest of the world includes bowyers, arrow makers, gun manufacturers, fly rod manufacturers, etc. Feed the poor but don't forget to feed your spirit! How much do I spend on archery? Probably too much, but probably not enough. I say stimulate the economy and buy a bow ot 2!!
ABout 50 bucks for license and I would guess $200-$300 in gas over the course of the season.
Probably could thrown in another $100 for misc. stuff I'll invariably pick up at the sporting goods store.

Same here. If the wife found out how much I spend on my hobbies I would be looking for a new home.
My wife asked me this exact question over dinner one night.
She said "So, how much money do you spend hunting every year?"
I quickly replied "My deer lease is $1000/year".
She says "No, I mean on everything; lease, gas, food, equipment - everything?"
I thought real hard before I answered her. Here is what my reply was: "I'm not real sure what that amount would be and I'm 100% sure that you don't want to know".
She actually dropped it right there and the question has never come up again. Man, I love her.

P.S. - I hunt a lot and seem to take my fair share of animals every year.
Uh, oh. I forgot to figure in the $1,500 I started paying to lease the place I've been hunting for 9 years.
My X wife said to me once " why don't you take up something cheap like cocaine" Nuf said :scared:
Put it this way, meat is about $400.00 a pound. But who cares, it's damn fine when you're eating.
Who cares?? This is my enjoyment...I work all year and look forward to my 3 months of chasing critters to fill my freezer. Plus....I look forward to my trips into Canada and out west. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...enjoy life while you can... :saywhat: :jumper:
i think you are going to get alot of us in trouble lol.good luck this season, steve
not enough! cause i dont have enough money to buy what i need... much less what i want! XD
nothing!! except house & FARM PAYMENT&INSURANCE&MOWING &on&on friends have the nerve to say im lucky because i dont have to buy a license or tags because i own the land(ky land owners dont have to buy tags or license) trust me lic.&tags are much cheaper if you can find a place to hunt but i would not trade trade this place for anything 40 acres of bliss!!!!
I'm like some of the others here--about 60 bucks I think it was for a permit, but I am using the same bow, arrows, broadheads, camo, treestands and anything else you can think of that I used last year, and the year before etc.
I don't travel far to hunt, can ride my bike to some areas, walk to a couple, and drive no more than 10-15 miles to anyt other spot I am likely to hunt for deer. So my cost is minimal.
