Long story short..
Bow went waaay overdue.
1st bow sent was defective...
2nd bow sent was pretty decent.
The second bow took 3 times longer to build than quoted and was different design than asked for..lol
The builder sent it unfinished to be sure I liked it before finishing.
I decided to finish it myself.
1st time I've ever done anything like this.
It doesn't look all that great but it's better than a white bow in the woods..lol
Here's how I received it...

And here is what it looks like now...

And here's a pic of test arrows spined from 43#-68# at 15 or 20yds (can't remember)

Like I said not perfect..I'd rather have woods naturally that color but it wasn't in the cards this time around.
Thanks for peeking
I remember your first posts about this type bow, do you get much handshock when shooting this style of bow? What weight arrows are you shooting? and what kind of weight does the bow pull? Sorry for being so inquisitive.
Mike
Nice finish job!
I hope it works for you forever or as long as you have it at least.
A long haul for you to get to this point for sure.
God bless,Mudd
Very nice work,,
Mike Most...
No Problem..
I'm holding 42# at 27.5"
I'm shooting a 550grain arrow at 143ft/sec
A 485grain arrow at 153ft/sec.
A 676 grain arrow goes 130 ft/sec.
Funny..my late 50's model Bear Kodiak 60" 52# holds 52# at my draw and shoots the same arrows the same speed ( by 1ft/sec or so )
I haven't really got into "testing the bow for review" but it seems to start strong on the draw but draws smoothly.
I haven't been able to tune out a bit of string "twang" just yet but I think almost any bow can be made quiet if you know what you're doing. Problem is I don't and just make things up as I go.
The bows not loud by any means. It's just not silent yet.
Also it is noteworthy IMO to note this new bow when drawn to 30" will shoot that 550grn arrow about 185ft/sec. I don't know what the holding# is at that draw however.
The handshock is very low. I don't have a lot of experience in the matter but I can hardly feel it "go off".
BTW..
Didn't think of this till now..
That target is one I printed off a long while back.
It's a fallow deer. Had antlers too.
It's not baby Bambi..I'm not quite that twisted.
Real good finish. I like it. He should hire you.
Where's the inflating head Graemlins?
:knothead:
Nice work! I like the lines of that bow.
I'm glad this finally work out for ya. It is sad that you had to complete the bowyers work for him but at least you have a bow you can enjoy.
I have to admit..he said he was willing to finish it.
I just was tired of waiting..and waiting..and waiting....
I wanted it done..
Bird in the hand etc...
Well, that sure turned out pretty. Looks like you shoot it well also. It must be easy to take a lot of pride in it. Well Done!!

Cool looking bow. I've never seen one like that.
Nicest Sidewinder I've seen!
Very nice looking work and bow! Way to go. :clapper:
Your dangerous now! Once you get a taste of it you cant stop thinking about the next one. I refinished and old "no name" long bow a while ago and it turned out great.....and that was the end of it for me! I have refinished, finished and built a few since. Looks good my friend! Nice bow!
Looks very nice. Hap
Sweet!!
Great to see you finally got the bow! And your finish job looks great to me! Congrats!

This deal sorta put a sour taste in my mouth.
I know this won't be the norm with most bowyers.
You got me thinking....
I do have an old bear bow that NEEDS repair..hhhmmmm

Thanks for the comments everyone!
Dont be scared to refinish that old Bear bow if its not a collector, and dont be afraid of the glass either. 0000 steel wool will put the shine right back to it after you lightly sand the limbs smooth. I spray poly the entire bow when Im done and they look fabulous and function fine. You would be amazed what 4 coats of clear poly and 2-3 coats of satin will do for scratched up, old limbs....they will look new. You can reshape handles, sight windows and limb tips if you choose to. Its a great hobby.
Nice work looks like a shooter.
