A few of us went out to the plains in Aug to hunt antelope. To our amazement, we were shocked at what we found. The area we hunt was May green with water everywhere. We usually sit waterholes and sometimes decoy in September, but spot and stalk out in this area is very difficult. After three 12 hour days we had exactly two encounters between the three of us. Normally we have three to five a day apiece.
The story on this buck is as follows. The second day we decided to put blinds on a hole that we have never hunted. About 11:30 am with the temperature approaching 100 degrees, this buck and a herd of does started their approach from the east. They methodically worked to within 20 yards of my buddy's blind. The buck hung up in perfect position and I was eagerly watching with binos for my buddy to shoot..... No shot. The buck eventually worked over to me and I took the shot. The does spooked at the sound again over to my buddy. They hung up at about 25 yards....Again no shot. Eventually the does caught his scent and bolted. I got out the radio to raise my buddy and get the story. "What the hell, over?" I said. His reply "What, what do want. Did you see something?". He was ASLEEP! For those who cry foul, for the record we don't use radios to hunt, but we do use them to razz each other. :)

Well done! Beautiful goat.
Congrats, really nice goat! His loss, your gain.
very nice, I'm jealous.
Stupid goats are driving me nuts here.
We don't have near as much cover as you have, we're stuck with farmers fields and no blinds.
Any bow kill is a trophy but yours is really nice.
Awesome Jeff   Congrats on a dandy goat!

Cory beat me to the punch!Awsome goat.
Nice goat!
Nice Goat Jeff. We were out earlier this year north of Billings and the numbers seemed way down. The FWP says heavy winter kill.
A nice trophy indeed! :clapper:
Great goat. The score should receive 10 bonus points for the circumstances of the hunt!
Ceme24,
Turn that dream into reality! You should go antelope hunting. The license is very reasonable in WY, high populations and lots of fun. With WY's walk-in hunting area program there is also lots of accessible hunting ground. A good week is all you'd need to see lots of animals and if you hit it right, find water, time it for the rut, use decoys, etc. you would have a blast!
NICE!! Shawn
Awesome prairie speedster! Great pics and story!

Congrats on a great buck! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Great goat! I wished I could say I never feel asleep in a blind.
very cool story thx for sharing.
Funny addition to this story. Last night my "buddy" called me and berated me for "throwing his partner under the bus" to the whole wide world. We had a good laugh all over again. I promised him he would remain nameless. Also in his defense, last year I awoke from a nap to slurping sounds.... I peeked through the side flap and spied a nice buck walking away from the water. Happens to best of us, (or worse) you be the judge.
PS He said I better mind my P's and Q's because he's posting my next misadventure! We leave for our next elk hunt tomorrow... should be fun.
Nice buck! I personally don't think using the radio to see if your partner is awake is the same as using it to guide a stalk or something like that. Next time I would at last give him a couple taps on the talk button to wake him up.
Congratulations on a fine goat!! :)
