Title: Pretty Boy MD
Post by: Nate N on September 22, 2010, 09:04:00 AM
This will be my first year of hunting Pretty Boy.  Any of you guys from Maryland seeing anything yet.  I am pretty excited.  After 14 years of hunting the same area in PA i am ready to try something new.
Thanks!
Nate

LOL, I'm in MD and may do some hunting in PA (5B & C)...I'll ask around work to see if anyone's been up there yet.

I hope to check out Pretty boy myself in the near future. I work outside Baltimore so must likely try to get there for the last 2-3 hours after work once I have some time. Maybe we'll get to help each other drag out deer

I am quite a bit west but I have been doin alright. The deer are there, I just have not gotten a shot yet. I really did my homework this year though so it is only a matter of time. I know some people that hunt Pretty boy, but I haven't really heard anything yet this year . . . good luck though!

Chop, hopefully i run into you sometime down there.  Definately help you get one out of the woods.  5B in PA has definately got some deer especially in the southern York county area around Brogue and Airville.

Good luck out in the Western part Chris.  THere is some pretty country out there.  I used to to alot of business in the Cumberland area.  Are you that far out?
Nate

Prettyboy has some good deer there in pockets, you do need to scout....Mon through Thurs it isnt too bad but on Fri and Sat the idiots with wheels go walking through the woods smoking and joking and will walk right up to your stand just to be rude....good luck!

My brother hunts Pretty Boy a couple dozen times a year along with Liberty and Susquehanna park.  He does alright but is not targeting monster bucks either. He has not been there yet though as he is targeting some urban deer in Howard County until the leaves drop.

I plan on hunting closer to my house up here in the Fred watershed and out west in Greenridge but I have not been out yet due to a long Idaho elk hunt I just got back from.

Best of luck!

Nate,
Been a few years, but watch all the "rules" like removing a facemask before hitting any trails. Apparently, the horsie riders don't like not being able to ID you... it spooks them big cayuse, too.

Ihunted there several years in a row and never saw hair that wasn't flat out low to the ground that had been spooked silly somewhere else and wasn't stopping anytime soon.

I was there in the AM on Wednesday (15th) and I saw nothing but squirrels. My bud who was about 200 yards away said he saw three mid to large size deer but none close enough for a shot.

Thanks Doc.  I heard they have some pretty strict rules about that kind of stuff.  Just thought it is neat that you are in Lacanster county.  My brother lives in Strasburg.

Hey sentinel, long time man.  How have you been?  We will have to get together and do some shootin again.  Adam still talks about that dwyer!!!

Hey guys! Its good to see some local talk! I'm from Southern Lancaster Co. (Quarryville, to be exact) (I'm pretty familiar with York as I used to live on Mt.Rose Ave.) and I hunt throughout 5B and 5C. I also have a good buddy/hunting buddy in Sykesville just off of Liberty Res. I didn't buy a MD tag this year, but know that there are a lot of deer around there. I havent heard of this Pretty Boy though. Sounds interesting. Anyway, glad to see some locals on here, maybe we'll run into each other one day.

PB is just down 83 across the line...many ways in and around cause it's all carved up with the big reservoir there.

I have hunted PB a number of times and have done best in the late season.  We would get a couple of guys and put on small pushes bumping deer to ambush spots . Early season is crowded and a tick fest. In rifle seaon be prepared to have gun hunters walking through.

I have seen some nice bucks at PB but you have to put your time in.
