I use them footed and I like them a lot.Stay pretty straight for me and theyre fairly durable.
I just recieved a dozen, they fly good. Havent hunted with them yet.
I've used arrows I've made from footed hexshafts from Whispering Wind Arrows the past couple years. Overall I've been pleased. Good points are that it is pretty easy to get a 750+ finished arrows with 125-gr BHs. They are pretty durable, and the ones that have broken from hard use did not split along glue lines, as you might think they would.
They do have some quirks. They can take quite a bit of work to get straight, and you'll have to use a heat gun to do this. Also, from every dozen I usually have one crack on me while straightening. However, once you get them straight and sealed (3 dips), they stay straight. Out of every dozen I get a couple to several that have one of the six pieces that make up the shaft (the individual pieces don't come from the same stock) that is very different in color than the other five (I was told that this is due to color caused by a fungus during the aging process). It does not affect performance, but it is aggravating if you want to make a full dozen pretty arrows. Another side effect of the multi-component shaft is that it does not take stain evenly. Finally, if you need arrows in a heavy spine (>100#), I have not been able to get them much above the 90-94# range.
Use them and like them.
I used them and had mixed results. The tapered ones I bought directly from Whispering Winds were excellent. The other tapered shafts I bought elsewhere were very poor quality as was noticable in the glue lines. One set was not usable.
One other (minor) advantage if you are making your own finished shafts: you don't have to orient your nock with the wood grain like you would with a traditional wood shaft.
PS, I would not get them any where else but from Bob at Whispering Wind Arrows. The guy is a real craftsman and it shows in his footings and nock and point tapers he puts on the shafts.
I have used footed ones from Whispering wind for all my Hill bows and have been very pleased. Bob was very helpful with determining the spine.
