Title: Hunting Portugal
Post by: chopx2 on September 20, 2010, 01:55:00 PM
Any one here ever hunt in Portugal or know someone who has? It's one of the few European countries there where archery has always been legal, but rarely ever used.

There hasn't been any big game in the mountain villages my parents grew up in for decades, but I hear now there is a feral hog problem brewing with the dramatic decrease in farming and clearing of land for grazing.

I know getting a license as a resident is onerous. In fact you have to not only have a license and pass written and shooting tests you also HAVE TO CARRY LIABILIY INSURANCE!

Most of the folks and family I have back there no nothing of archery or non-resident requirements and the internet has been of limited practical use so far researching it.

Any help would be appreciated

In France you have to carry a liability insurance but it cost 20€ for a year, really different from the US. But I don't know for the Portugal.

My biggest concern is how to qualify as a non-resident since I can't attend the tests.

I was wondering if they might take a US equivalent for a non-resident license.

Best way would be talking to some landowners.

Good luck

Thanks Daniel, I atually have private (family) and public land access (my parents villages are actually in a national park where hunting is allowed).

Unfortunately, none of my family there seems to be informed about all the details regarding archery hunting or non-resident so I am looking for experts. That archery shop you connected me to should be a great source of info!
