Have a new (to me) Maddog Mutt longbow coming soon. Specs are 49 @ 28" 65"NTN. I draw 27.5 and shoot 3 under. I'm thinking full length GT 3555 trads with 100 gr brass inserts and 125 gr heads. Anybody shoot similar setup or have other suggestions on spine?
Thanks
With that much weight up front they may be just a little on the weak side even if you were to use B50 string.
I would suggest 50gr. inserts instead, at least that is the suggestion from Stu Millers spine calculator.
i shoot 48 @ 27 and draw 27. i shoot 28.5 inch GT 3555 with 175 up front, and they shoot great. My bow is cut to center. Is the Maddog cut to center or not?
I don't have it in hand yet so don't know about centershot. String is B50. I will have about 1.5 inches to work with if I have to cut them off at all. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't grossly underspined to begin with. I will try 50 gr inserts before I cut. Wanted as much FOC as possible with at least 500 gr arrow.
Thanks
At full length, & a 50gr. insert it'll be around 460gr total weight give or take a little & you'll be over 10GPP.
My arrows are a little heavier than what the software & Gold Tip says they should be.
I find the GT 3555 to be lighter spine than most standard 500's. I think you will be fine with them. Just get some standard, 50 and 100 inserts along with some test points and work your way down to what you want.
42# recurve shooting Carbon Express CX 100's, 30.5" long, 50 gr. brass insert, 150 gr. fp/bh, 5 gpi weight tubes. Absolute perfect flight.
I shoot full length 35/55 5" feathers and 125 gr point and I draw 47lbs@28 and they shoot like darts.
i bet i could shoot any 30" 600 with a 175 up front outta it
I shoot 28 3/4" GT 3555, 100gn insert, 125gn up front from my 47@27 Toelke Whip. My draw length is 26,5, arrows have 1,3" aluminum reinforcement, 3x4" bananas, 8gn standard nock.
They fly very well indeed, and man can they take a beating!
CE Heritage 90's will shoot very well for you. Mine are 29" long and weigh about 450 gr. with 145 gr. pts.
Received the bow today. Strung it up and put a temporary double nock on the string. Spent a few minutes working on anchor and release. Tried the 3555 GT trad blems left full length with 100 gr brass inserts and 125 gr tips. They fly great to the same point of impact fletched and bare shaft out to 15 yds. Still need to put silencers on and adjust brace height etc but am very pleased with the Goldtip 3555 so far. Thanks for all the replies! I'll try to post some pics of the bow later. I wouldn't call it a mutt. Even with the faint glue line in the glass this is a beautiful bow that points and shoots well. Great bow at a great value.
Rastaman- to my eye by running a string down the centerline the bow shelf appears to be cut to about 1/8 short of center.
Sounds like they are right where you need them to be. If they shoot good, that is what counts!
Mike makes a very good bow for the money!
if you decide to go with a shorter arrow ..you can shoot the 1535s 28.5" 175 up front should work well.
You could cut them to 30"s and go to 275 and be good. You are probably balls on now! Shawn
