getting hung up on your clothes when you shoot?
I just don't shoot well when canting the bow, and so hold the bow vertically. All summer long I shoot pretty well, and consistently. Then, when I put on my cooler-weather clothes, my accuracy goes all to pieces, and its the string catching the shirt/jacket or vest. I don't wear heavy stuff, but my draw is very full (i.e., my drawing elbow is way out behind me, as I have worked to draw with my back), which puts my bowstring closer to my chest. Just wearing a flannel-lined chamois shirt really messed up my shooting tonight.
I've rigged up a camo shooting vest that I often wear over my clothes, but I wonder if anyone else has any other ideas?
Or maybe I'm just too far north??? :dunno:
I have tried not drawing as far, shortening my draw about an inch. It works OK... but I don't want to do that if I don't have to, as my release tends to pull the string away from my face, and I struggle with shooting left.
Archie, I wear a vest for that same reason. Keeps everything snugged up to the body and lets the arms move free.
Eric
Put rubber bands around your arm in whatever location the clothes are getting hung up (if it's on your arm.)
Open up your stance---angle your body a tad to face the target more.
Archie do not shorten your draw KEEP YOUR FORM !Just open your stance like said above! Practice it and it will work out fine for you.
Jack
I shoot right handed and wear an elastic tick gaiter on my left bicep.
Here are a couple of pictures of the vest I made. I used a youth-sized cheap zip-up sweatshirt, cut off the right arm at the shoulder, and cut off all the left arm except the strip where the string catches my clothes. After putting on my armguard, when I draw, it stretches out the strip against my clothes, pulling everything out of the way.

It works pretty good... but can get to be a hassle, and it's just one more thing that if I forget it, my day is ruined. If there are any other "technique" tips, I'd be interested. I'm trying to open my stance, but that won't solve the entire problem.
Like the others said...a good safety harness usually keeps everything snagged up tight to your chest. I almost always keep my grunt tubes and such in a fanny pack instead of around my neck. If it is around my neck...keep it tucked inside of my jacket. Even if i'm hunting on the ground I still wear my harness just for that reason.
I was told by a sweet young lady on here " KillDeer " to use a old wool sock & cut the toe end off & use that around the bicep to keep the sleeve area clear of the string, I also suggest the opening up the stance a little which has helped me a lot in many years.
