Just curious how many of the recurve shooters in here shoot statics? I just got mine static recurve from a bowyer here in Indiana which is modeled after the first Bear bows that Nels Grumley used to make for Fred Bear. I am very pleased with it and wondered how many others here shoot statics... I'll try and get some pics posted of my new bow posted here soon. The specs for it are 62", 47@28",maple core, osage riser and limbs, ebony tips.
John
Very cool cant wait to see the pics.I shoot a static recurve Selfbow that i made out of Elm its about 45# at 28'' and i really enjoy shooting it.
I love mine! Very quiet for a recurve. Good luck.
Magnus
My wife shoots one. I have one but dont shoot it much! My wife can shot with the best  . I would shoot her bow more often if she didn't always have it in hand.
I've got a RER Arroyo and love it just wished it wasn't 52#... I would enjoy it more if it was about mid 40's...May need to send it off to get some weight takin off someday...
Hey John.
I have the litter mate to yours.
Mr. Brooks is a craftsman, and a fine southern
gentleman. George
i made a self bow osage replica of the nels grumbly static a couple years ago. killed a couple hogs with, one with a stone point.
Nice to see a fellow TG'er has a John Brooks bow. He's a great guy, a very fine bowyer, and very modest about how great his bows really are. Tree Dancer you'll have to post a pic of yours too if you get a chance.
I shoot and build two models of static recurve called the Talon. One is a three piece takedown and the other is a 56 in onepiece. I love the statice. Mine is really different with a past 90 degree tight recurve instead of the longer and the conventional recurve. As stated they are super quiet and quick. God Bless you ,. Steve

Hey John,You are so right, Mr. Brooks is a very modest man.
I like to call him The Southern Gentleman that is what he truly is!
I won't talk about how fast his bows are, no one would belive it anyway. George
I know I have been providing Mr. Brooks, aka, "The Southern Gentleman" with some stats as far as arrows go and arrow speed through a chronograph. I'm amazed at some of the speeds myself...I'm gonna try and get pics of some of the recent tests on here along with my bow.
John
John
I do not have a chronograph, but I have been shooting for over fifty years.
I've shot alot of bows in that time, I know fast when I see it.
Look forward to seeing your tests. George
Do we get any pics?
......static's are cool! ..I got a few. I got one thats all aluminum
Love my RER!
I know all my Kwyk Styk customers who are shooting Static Limbs love the bow...especially the super smooth draw.
George, bring it down with you and we can give it a go this week. I can do pics also.
Chuck
I agree with Joe 100%. One smooth and fast shooting machine is this Kempf Kwyk Styk 56" 55@28. Recieved it in May this year. I had the throat made smaller, also Jack added a thumbrest that really feels great.

I'm trying to get pics up and running having the infamous computer not wanting to download from the card problem :banghead: .I'll try and get some posted ASAP.
John
Chuck see you Tue.with the Brooks bow.
George
I have two bows with the static tips. A Dryad Epic and an RER Retro, enjoy them both. I haven't noticed either to be extremely fast, although plenty quick for me, but both are very, very quiet. For me quiet is where it's at, not speed. But having said that, having both is really nice too. RW.
Here are the pics that I could get ready for here tonight.

John you need an old Bear leather top quiver for that bow!!
PM me your address so I can send you one.
George
What is a "static" limb?
americanhunter7
That is one cool looking bow. kind of puts one back in the old days.
John I love the pictures of your bow.
Those tips are just the "cat's meow!" and the only style of recurves that has tweaked my interest in curves.
So far my interests have been limited to looking.
If I get a chance to shoot one someday that may change...lol
Thank you for sharing.
God bless,Mudd

My Father inlaw had a bow just like yours.
He told me not to string it as they are prone to break.
HE WAS RIGHT!!
Tree Dancer DID YOURS BREAK ???? ..I have three ..shot them all for years..No problem here! All of mine are rated at 27" draw (MAX.)..maybe the were overdrawed some???
I also shoot a 56" Kwyk Styk with static tips are really like it
Actually I like them so much I have another 56" and a 52" on order.
My dad is also shooting a 56" KS with static tips and has a 52" on order as well.

As I understand it.. a static tip is a bow that the tips don't work as part of the limb, ie they are static.. non-moving.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
God bless,Mudd
I have a couple of Sovereign Ballisticks, Love them.

Chis,
Those are some wicked looking poison arrows you got there. What are the specs of the wraps and fletching? Are those tracers on there too?
Let's see some pics of the Ballistiks...please.
Static tips are tips that do not bend or do not bend much. They do work in that the perform a purpose. The extend and maintain the length of draw keeping the string angle even trhorugh most of the draw which really makes a smooth drawing or even drawing bow gaining the same or close to the same poundage through the draw cycle. They also quiten the bow down in that the string comes abruptly off of the stiff tip and so there is little if any string slap or vibration. The smaller the tips and still long enough to perform these functions the faster and lighter the limb and the bow is. That is why I designed the short , sharp hook.on the Talon. It makes a super efficient , light in weight limb. God Bless and hope this helps , Steve

I only own one recurve. 49 inch Texas Recurves Comanche. 73#@28 inches. This bow is as quiet as any of my longbows, and I love the tips. I found it used several years ago.

The last two bows I built were static tip recurves. Very quiet and quite fast. Arrows for the bows had to be changed to the next size up and the one which is used at a longer draw length than I use, had to move up two sizes for my friend. They shoot very smooth and I noticed my point on has moved out 5 more yards. I am real pleased with the static tip. :D
Chort
Kwyk Styk - 54# @ 28"... This bow is quiet and is a shooter. (http://www.burnhamphotography.com/galleries/events/photos/texas2010/_rwb9512.jpg)
Rank Bull I love it!!
It's those bumps on the limb tips that intrigue me.
They just look so cool!!
I think I might have to find one to shoot at least, even if I can't own one.
God bless,Mudd

I think that one hanging in the tree was mine! Miss it bad!! I shoot an RER Arroyo and it is static and absolutely a smoker and whisper quiet too and short 54"s! Shawn
You would really like them Mudd. I kind of wish this one was a little lower weight so I could get more than 3 shots before I was tired though.
The way the tips work the string doesn't slap the limbs...it's like they lay into groove as you release. It's hard to explain but it works.
It is super light, but dead, and I mean dead in the hand at the shot. No vibrations...none. I really like it.

Juan is right,. Nothing else shoots anything like a static,. The quietness is because the string hardly ever leaves the limb. It just rolls back into place and never slaps the limb. The first time I shot one I was just dumbfounded. It was like shooting a really quiet longbow. I just released and the loudest noise was the arrow hitting the target. God Bless you and have a great day. Steve.
