I wanted to share pictures of my new 3 pc Buffalo Bow bow by Big Jim.
Big Jim is one of the finest craftsmen I've ran across in the bow building world.
The bow specs are
60x54x28
Snakewood riser
Macassar Ebony swoop
Macassar Ebony veneers
Buffalo horn tips
Buffalo horn limb butts
I've shot the bow for almost a week, and I'm very pleased with it. Smooth, quiet, and well mannered.
I kinda had my heart set on Redwood Burl veneers until Big Jim said he had some Ebony with cinnamon stripes that would look nice with the Snakewood, so I said let's do it. He builds an extremely nice bow, and he ain't half bad on matching woods either.
Pics coming soon.
Billy, where's the pics ????? You're just plain mean !!!
i want to see this one
Hey that just isn't nice not sharing...even my 3yo knows that!...can't wait to see the pics!
Patience guys patience....I'm not smart enough to figure out the picture posting deal, so I'm waiting for a friend to post them....he'll be along shortly.
It's a LEFTY - bring it ON!!!

Well.....my picture poster may have gone to bed for the night.
A little background on the bow. I contacted Big Jim telling him I wanted something a bit different. I told him my thoughts and he said draw me a picture....I'll give anything a try.
We decided on Snakewood for the riser, and Macassar Ebony for the swoop. He suggested Ebony for veneers. I had seen striped Ebony veneers, and wasn't too thrilled about using that, but Big Jim said you need to look at what I have....Ebony with cinammon stripes. I was sold as soon as I saw pictures of the board.
Big Jim had the riser built like I wanted. We had the veneers picked out. Then I had a special request on the finish. I told him I wanted it finished to look like a 60's model Bear....he said I haven't done that, but I'll do my best.
The finish is BigJim's secret, home brewed Epoxy. The bow has many, many coats of Epoxy sprayed on, with wet sanding between each coat.
The finish came out exactly like I wanted...in fact, he exceeded my expectations, and I know he spent a lot of extra time finishing the bow.
I ask what he called the finish and he said Buffalo Hide....how fitting....a Buffalo bow with Buffalo Hide finish.
BigJim is an exceptional craftsman who takes a great deal of pride in his work, and he's willing to go the extra mile to see that you get what you want.
I know the finish is not what a lot of guys want on a hunting bow, and I understand that. I have hunting bows that I drag around through the brush, and briar patches that I don't care if they get a few hickies on them, but it doesn't hurt to have a nice, Sunday go to meeting bow hanging on the rack either.
Billy, I've heard about your bow, now I need to see it!
:) :) :)
Congrats,
F-Manny
Cruel Billy....just cruel :banghead:

If you like, you can email a photo or photos to me and I can post for you. I'm anxious to see what you've described. Congrats on having not only a new bow, but a piece of artisan craftsmanship.
I'm saving pennies for something new for myself, but at the rate I'm going it'll be a while.

 :clapper:
Well that certainly a beauty!!!! You have every right to be proud of that bow Billy. The snakewood costs more than some people want to pay for an entire bow and the bow is just overall stunning. Great Job Big Jim!! Awsome work sir. God blessed both the buyer and the bowyer and may he conti9nue to do so.Steve
Thats a killer bow.
That there is a heartbraker. But you probably have not noticed yet, (sshh) Big Jim put the arrow rest on the wrong side. It's purdy anyway!
Oh man, Snakewood has always been a favorite of mine, though I've never owned a bow with it. That bow is absolutely stunning! Big Jim has outdone himself on that beauty. Congrats to Billy on ownership of a superior bow, and hats-off to Big Jim for his awesome craftsmanship. :clapper: :clapper:
Beautiful bow! Those are two of my favorite woods.
That is a nice looking bow
Stunning...every one of these bows I see gets one digit closer to dialing BigJim's number!
I can't add anything that hasn't already been said!!
:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

:coffee:
Wow !
This is one of the nicest bows I've seen!!
Congrats :)
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I'll try to get a braced picture soon.
OOOOHHHHH I so love that bow....it is awesome!!! :clapper:
Impressive! I never had the guts to try a Snakewood riser due to it's reputation as an unstable wood that is easy to check and split. Gorgeous bow! Congrats to u and bowyer.
Great looking bow.
Back up for LookMomNoSights, who wanted to see pics of a Big Jim 3pc Buffalo longbow.
An heirloom master piece.
Congrats!
Billy, that is a real beauty! Congrats.
I've been buying small pieces of snakewood for knife scales. A piece that size must have added some pretty solid mass to the riser and I don't even want to think what that hunk of wood cost.
You sure got a one-of-a-kind bow there!
Beauty for sure!!
Billy, I love the combination of woods on her. Great looker, bet she shoots awesome.
I love the look of snakewood which is why I have a gorgeous Blacktail Snakebit bow. This bow by Jim is among the most beautiful I have seen -- relatively subdued, but elegant in every respect, including the spectacular woods and outstanding execution. Jim, although I prefer your 2 piece bows, you have set a new high mark in your craftsmanship with this bow and have demonstrated that you are at a level very few bowyers have reached. Congratulations to you on your achievement and to Billy on his ownership of such a fine example of a bowyer's art!
Allan
Sweet bow and it's a lefty. That ebony swoop is just plain cool.
A lot of time goes into that type of finish.
I love it.
Definitely AWESOME! :notworthy: Can't wait to get the call to have mine made!!!! Thanks for the pics Billy!
Wow that sure is a fine looking bow. I bet it shoots as good as it looks .
In the top ten of best looking bows that I have seen !
Very very nice! That snakewood is sick!
Digging this back up for Hummer3T.
I've always been a fan of Jim's 2-piece but got to see his 3-pieces at Tannehill and all I can say is WOW!
Sweet!!!!
Wow! That is stunning.
That is an incredible bow! I need to catch-up with Big Jim at a show and see his bows first hand. Definitely on my bucket list! Thanks for sharing...
TTT for my fellow lefties. Billy is selling this!! :scared:  :notworthy:
He just listed it
That Sir is a fine looking bow....... Gonna have to put snake wood on the list :)
That is SWEEEEEEET.
Do not have a Big Jim bow on the rack... might have to get one. Great bow. Have dealt with Jim on buying accessories, arrows, and used bows of other bowyers. Great guy to deal with. Roy
Snakewood makes for a killer looking bow and that bow is for sure a total knockout.
Beautiful!
