Title: Best books?
Post by: droptine82 on September 16, 2010, 07:40:00 PM
What are some good books and dvds to buy on traditional archery.  I just bought "Masters of the barebow"  vol 1 and 2.  What are some other good ones.  I am about to pop them in for the first time.  Just want all the help I can get.  Lord knows I need it!

G Fred's books are good ones; haven't seen his videos, but I bet they are winners, as well.

GFA's book on Stalking and Still Hunting is very good.

Trash Boys new dvd of wild boar hunting in Australia is one of the best I've seen.  You can buy it from Sneaky One in the sponsor's classifieds.  After you watch it you'll be calling your travel agent for tix to Oz, and shedding your boots to hunt barefoot.  :)

Traditional Archery Insights by Jay Kidwell is a my favorite on shooting barebow. He is a sports psychologist and Trad Bowhunter - good stuff!

It is a quick read.  A little time in the...er, reading room   :)  and you will be on the way to better shooting

Masters of the Barebow III is the best yet, and I expect IV to be great.  The Fred Bear series is great, as is "The Legendary Hunts of Ben Pearson" (available only through Ben Pearson Jr.).  There's a pretty good Bill Negley video also, although it's a bit chopped up in spots it's still good.

There's some I don't reccomend at all, but I won't post them.

I really liked:

DVD
Primal Dreams (and cannot wait for PD II to come out!)
Easton Bowhunting

Books
One with the Wilderness by Mike Mitten was just amazing
A Man Made of Elk by David Peterson is also excellent

Plus I have read a slew of others on tactics and such... but those are the key ones I go back to...

Forgot to mention, the book "Fred Bear's Field Notes:  The Adventures of Fred Bear" is a must-read to go along with the DVD's.  It gives a lot of "behind the scenes" insight you won't get from the videos alone...i.e. the narrator in some instances calls a shot "perfect" when you can see there's no way...Fred calls it like it is in the book.

Thanks everyone for your input.  I hope to have all mentioned one day.  I am making a list and going to try to get them all in time.
