I live in 29 Palms and I would love to do some hog hunting. Does anyone know the best place nearest to here that would work? Preferably on public land where all I need is a license. I have to get a bow and some arras out here before I can do any hunting, but just lookin' for ideas.
Thanks, Bakes :archer:

Hello Bakes, Welcome to the People's Republic of Kalifornistan, Capital of the USA's Fruits and Nutz and home base for all things anti-hunting...
There is a core group of us that has put together a hog hunt at the Tejon Ranch (Gorman/Fraizier Park near the Grape Vine on I-5) each year for the past few years. I'm sure it'll happen again this next year around February to May....the hunt is fairly reasonably priced by Kalifornistan standards, figure on about $500 for a long weekend.
Hunting access is very tough to acquire in the Land of Pelosi, Boxer and Feinstein, with greater opportunities in Northern CA. If you are still in the USMC I suggest you look into hunting access onto VanDenBerg Air Base...finest hunting in Kalifornistan but only open to DoD/military guys.
I'm heading out to the Rockies to chase elk for the next several weeks but reach out for me on a PM during mid October and I'll try to hook you up a bit. I'm not far away from you, near Redlands....
There is a growing population down here in San Diego County. In the San Diego Union Tribune it stated that pigs have been seen near El Capitan Reservoir, Cuyamaca Rancho state park, Ramona and Palomar Mountain. The article also stated that they will try to control them with hunting. I have heard that some pigs were killed on Palomar Mt. on private land.
Call the Cleveland National Forest office or the CA Fish and Game and they should be able to help you. You can also Google "San Diego wild pigs" and you can get some additional information. I've heard the F&G have sold a lot of tags but I personally have not heard of hunters filling them.
Sometime in the near future I think I'll investigate this some more and try my luck.
Also, welcome to California.
