Gun or bow is o.k., private land only, must wear hunters orange to comply with gun hunting rules, its in the antlerless booklet, good luck, shoot straight. Todd

I'd love to, but the line for the EAS ends about 10 miles south of me. I have 2 antlerless tags too. I'll try to fill them during early bow. If not, the first 2 doe's seen on Nov.15 go down.

I'm not waiting til December this year because the weatherman said we could have significant lake effect snow in December if we get cold air going over Lake Michigan, which is warm this year.

It was like 2 years ago when our December hunt was a joke. I hunted once in thigh deep snow and canned it after that.

I've been pushing MDNR to open EAS in any DMU that issue's antlerless tags. If you have an antlerless tag, why not open up September to people who drew such tags?

Hey Cody...I use to live in Charlotte, back when I was going to Olivet! My buddies and I rented a farm house there. Can't remember the road but it was surrounded by farmland and woods. Use to see some BIG deer around there! Good luck this weekend!

Robo, Robo, Robo....  I'll be up at oh dark thirty and heading out to the farm with the PCH and a half dozen scary sharp broadheads.  If I don't get zapped by lighting  I'll see you Saturday.
Oh yeah, I got five(don't want to get to greedy, but I got people at work waiting for jerky, right?) and Sean picked up 2.  He was over this morning and we finished up his arrows for his Ambush bow.  He fletched, and I mounted the broadheads.  He's heading out to the farm this weekend.

Are you using your ELB Cody?

I was out tonight hoping for a rabbit or squirrel, but to no avail.  I'll be out again tomorrow looking for a doe.

Good luck everyone!

Friday and Saturday for sure.  Can't wait.  Plan to bow hunt, but maybe shoots something with the ML on an evening hunt just because of the typical temps this time of year, and to make the farmer happy where I plan to hunt this week.  I have a farmer that likes to see results from those he lets hunt.  Results have keep me hunting there for many years.  The farm is my favorite place to early doe hunt because I almost never see anything but 1 1/2" year old spikes and forks there before the rut so I don't spook off anything I want to shoot with horns before I can shoot them.  I will save the better spots until Oct. 1.

I love the fact that turkey season starts so early this year.  Every year I get shots at turkeys in the early doe or first week or so of early bow, but they get on to my stands, and I don't get shots at them when the season is on.  Maybe I will get one this year.

I'm out... I just looked at the map and though I did draw a tag in DMU 045 which is something special since there are only 300 permits available it is not open for the early hunt. Good luck to everyone else and don't forget to have fun.

Been out turkey hunting. No birds but did get this buck on video around 10:30am. I'll have to keep that in mind and sit a few extra hours in the morning when bow season arrives.

Youth hunt ......early does......none of this makes any sense to me .....and I haven't had anyone explain it to me in a logical way......what is the advantage?is it just a money thing?what is wrong with the old way?

1. Money
2. Opportunity (more)
3. herd control
4. Money

Thats the order I believe in anywho.

Saw 7 this AM.  One real nice big old girl out on the edge of my range.  Would have had to bend down or lean way out to get clear arrow flight so figured with that kind of shot I needed her a little closer.  One other doe a long way out and the rest were fawns with a pair in close that appeared to already not have a mother as they were around for a couple hours and went a long way off in the end without a doe showing.

Pulled out and realized about 300 acres of standing corn around two sides of this farm has been picked this last week.  Not chopped for silage, but picked.  I don't ever recall seeing picked corn in the middle of September.  The farm I am on is woods, orchards, and beans.  Used to always be a lot of corn, but it is about all beans this year.  There is a whole lot less area for deer to hide this year.  I was surprised no to have seen more deer.

:dunno:  It really puts the spook into them in some areas I hunt.  Two weekends of guns near our farm really have put the breaks on early bow season activity.  That and the neighbors shooting off three or four bucks for several years now in the youth hunt has cut down a lot on the early October buck sightings.  The early youth hunt is real popular and a great way to thin the larger bucks out of the heard.  I did hear some shots last night at home.  I here more than a few people talking about getting their buck early.

I don't get why things need to change in the deer seasons.  I don't think it makes any difference in the deer count by the end of the year.  I always thought it was a big deal to grow up and get to hunt with the grown ups.  The right of passage I guess.  I got to go along to experience the hunt, and hunted small game to work my way up.  Now everything is about special everything to try and get people to hunt.  Can't start with small stuff and learn to love the hunt chasing rabbit and squirrels so you can work on your skills.

I will be heading to a small farm to get a chance at a turkey and if a nice doe comes by I will let one fly.  Fresh backstraps sound good on the grill for Sunday dinner.

I went out last night an saw a few does and fawns out of range.....and a whopper! at about 150 yards. Now I have 2 1/2 weeks to let that image stew in my sleepless brain! No turkeys though, that was my main goal.

So if you are hunting with a bow and have a doe tag and a turkey tag in your pocket do you need hunters orange?

Good question, but I believe you only need orange with a gun in your hand. Not a 100% though.
