I am on the hunt for a 62" recurve in the low 40's# @ 28 range and considering a Chek Mate Hunter II. What are your thoughts on them from your personal experience? Thanks all.
Great bows, fast-smooth. Hunter II has a medium to high grip. I have owned 4. Don
I have had Chek Mate longbow and flatbow, great shooting bows.Fit and finish was excellent and well made.
I've owned three H2s over the years. Excellent bows.
I've got a Falcon Deluxe and it's a fine bow for no more money than it cost.
I've had 2 of them and wished I still had them.
I have owned several H2's over the years and found them to be outstanding bows. They were very consistent in their shooting qualities from bow to bow. I can shoot a H2 better then a lot of other bows out there. I wouldn't hesitate at a chance to own another (and be sure to keep a hold of it this time around...). Very high rated bow, in my opinion.
Regards!
I have a Hunter 2. It is my go to bow. I have't shot a lot of others to compare it too, but it works well for me and the price is right.
I have a King's Pawn. It's a keeper. I'd have to say it is the best valued custom made bow that I know of.
I've got the 52" Raven - smooth shooter but mine took some quietening down... Good bows for the price IMHO!
Great bows, if I weren't shooting longbows now I would have one.
I have an H2 and find it to shoot great. I have two sets of limbs for it one About 53# and the other 65#. I can switch out limbs and arrows and be hitting the target where I want with groups after only an arrow or two.
I have a H II with two sets of limbs, 36# and 53#. I like the bow very much. It shoots better than I do! I'll be hunting deer with it in a couple weeks.
I have the bow you speak of - it is the only recurve I own - nope, you can't have it... :saywhat: Outstanding bow!
:archer2:
Every one I have shot has been very smooth and an excellent shooter, grips are a bit big for me but that's just me....great bows.
I've probably owned close to 25 Chek-Mates over the years. The old owners Larry and Dorothy lived in the same town I use to .Spent many evenings in the bow shop. For the price they can't be beat!
I have never owned the H2 but have had a Falcon and now have a Thunderbird built just like I like it. Grips have run large on the H models for a while, but the bowyer can likely build it to fit you if you ask. They are a high quality product that is built to last.

I've never had the opportunity to handle or shoot a Chek Mate , but they are great looking bows, and the price sure is hard to beat. The reviews here definitely speak well of them.
Ron W, about the grip.....That might be an important consideration since I am looking for a bow for my 13 year old son to use and grow into.
He can comfortably hold my Widow PMA with its standard grip. Can anyone out there compare the grip on a Hunter II with the standard grip on a Widow?
The handles are rather large, but fits my hand rather well. I do believe that he will make any grip that you want however. I was going to have mine sent back at one time to have the shelf worked a little differently, I believe he wanted $40 which included shipping. Never had it done however.
I bought one for my dad a few years back. He still got it and loves it!
Do newer Chek Mate recurve models have the same larger grip, or was that only on older ones? Has there been any change in the grip design in recent years?

I have a Raven and an Atilla. No complaints.
Newer bows still have the larger grip....
I've never heard a bad word about Chekmate bows. I have an H2 that I hunt with and love. You will not find a better bow for the money, or even twice the money.

The Falcon I have is definately a keeper. It does what is asked over and over again.
Marc will shape the grip to your specs. I've had him do 2 and am well pleased. I have the H2, H1 and the Crusader longbow. They are all first class and so is Marc.

The grip of a Widow and the grip of a Chek Mate Hunter II are nothing alike, worlds apart actually. I believe that the Chek Mate is a better grip for me, my hand doesn't seam to want to slip off the grip as it would with the Widow. Just my personal preferance, yours could be completely opposite.
I've had an H1 since 05 and I wouldn't trade it for any of the hi dollar bows, I have a buddy that has owned Widows and every time we shoot together he makes the comment "dang that bow shoots hard".
I'll never get rid of it.
Had a H1 and a Falcon deluxe. Well made and pretty quick. I too found the grips a little large for my taste, although I sold them both to buddies who love them and regularly smoke me.
The H3 is supposed to be a smaller grip, but I've never played with one.
I have had 3 different Falcons, shoot the same as anything out there for a lot less money.
I have had a few H2 can't beat them. If I
ever get another one its a keeper this time. :knothead:
