The newer ones are fast flight compatable. I had one of the newer ones and really liked it. Because I started collecting a few older model Grayling Kodiaks and Super Kodiaks I decided there wasn't a need to keep the Gainesville bow. Unless you are set on buying brand new you can usually pick up a nice used year or two old one at a reasonable price.

I shot a 220 dressed buck with a, 57 pound at my draw, Gainesville model on a fast trot at 30 yards uphill.  The 2018 with a file sharpened zwickee delta went through the deer and hung up the branches beyond.  The buck went down in a skid after 40 yards and then the arrow fell out of the tree.  They work as nice as any recurve that I ever played with.

I was just lucky enough to pick up a bunch of '67 1/2, '68 and '69 Super Kodiaks.

I have a Jack Harrison longbow that is my go to bow. I started with a '68 bear Kodiak Magnum in 1968. I always wanted the Super Kodiak but couldn't afford it back then. I have a '67 1/2 55# @ 28" I am thinking of hunting this year. It is fast enough, very smooth with surprisingly little hand shock.

Here are some pics of a few I recently picked up. I think I would look for a '67 1/2 to '69 Super Kodiak, they are nice bows.

The plan was to use mine this season...I killed my last buck 2 years ago with a '74 Super K...I was gonna use my '68 this season but it wont be back from re-finishing in time. Looks like either the Pronghorn or Mohawk this season....whichever I use, the other will be my backup. I love the Super k's...my favorite recurve of all time..

My favorite is a 67 ½, but I also have a 75 blue stripe that I hunted with last year. The shelf sits a little high but it is still a sweet shooter.

I've got one of the newer ones (a 1998, I believe), and love it. I dropped the shelf and reshaped the grip a little on mine. It's a shooter for sure. Very stable, very quiet, and puts arrows where I'm looking. I would recommend trying to find one used though, as I don't think I'd pay what they're asking for a new one.

GIL - Gorgeous bows ya got there!

I have a new super Kodiak and it shoots. It is 50@28 and sends a arrow as fast and deep as my 58# longbows. And is a straight shooter.

I've got my '68 ready to go.  That bow is one sweet shooter.  I don't know why those older Kodiaks are so much quieter than any of the new bows.  Even if you put Dacron on the new bows they're noisier than the old Bears.

My '68 is hanging on the wall, retired, it is the 64" model with the factory routed in the riser vertical sight, has the little orange sights, maybe someday I'll hunt it again. Here's to the Super K's....

Thanks guys they just came in the mail yesterday and are better looking in person than the picture. I love these SKs between '67 and '69. I already had a '67 and '69. I may hunt the '67 this year.

Can never get enough of those 1960s Bears.

Kodiaks are fine shooters and have become favorites of mine. '66 Kodiak & '69 Super K.

I own both a 76 blue stripe Super K and a late model 07 Super K. The blue stripe is 65#'s and the 07 is 55#'s I have yet to shoot them both through my chrono but I think the late model is as fast as the 76er. I have been on the fence with the late model, as to whether I want to keep it, it shoots where I look and is fast and quiet but the grip is my biggest issue it is a little bulky for me. I'm thinking one of these days about sending it to Bowdoc to see if he can trim it down a bit. I am not a wood working guy. I know I would make a piece of fire wood out of it. The 76 blue stripe is going to Colorado with me this year, to try to let the air out of an Elk.

I had one, it was my first recurve.  It's the only bow I traded away that I wish I would have kept.  Cherokee Scout on here had it last I knew.  At least that's who I traded it to.  Made me a great deal.

I had a chance at a mint 68SK this summer and grabbed it up as fast as I could.  Most new bows ARE a step above, but it is surprising just how little things have improved in 42 years.  I am looking forward to a hunt sometime.

I've come to the same conclusion.  The more I shoot the older bows alongside the newer ones the less practical difference I see.   Some  of the newer bows may be faster but that's about the only benefit I've found.     :archer2:        :dunno:

I had this one a while back, really a good shooter as far as recurves go for me...  Not sure what year it was for sure, but it was definately a newer model... late 90's to early 00's.  Wouldn't hesitate to buy another, but this one was actually traded for a Bear T/D A-riser.  Wish I would have hung onto it... Took a doe with a clean shot at 18 yards and a number of Snowshoe's and Spruce Grouse in AK.

Motorhead... I cut the shelf down and re-shaped the grip on mine. I'm not much of a woodworker either, but it's really not that difficult to do.
