That's official, I am on the waiting list for a second buffalo bow!
I did order another one to have a takedown bow for traveling. That's the only missing feature of my buffalo bow. But again, what's wrong with having a new bow on order? :) :) :)
I need dark veneer ideas for the back of the bow.
So show me your dark veneers!
F-Manny
I have a Thunder Child with Bacote and if I were to get another one it would be Dalmatian.
Jim had some Ziricote awhile back that would dark and very nice.My dalmation ebony B-Jim is very dark. Not sure if any of that is still available though.
Ranger, do you have pics of your veneers? Steelhead Ziricote can be a good idea too!
F-Manny
What other woods are you planning to use?
I have a 58" Buffalo bow on order right now in Leopard wood/Lacewood.I also ordered a Thunderchild in Dalmation Ebony but Jim said he was just about out of the Dalmation ebony and that was 3 months ago.Ziricote is really nice I have a few bows in it.
I have one on order with a bacote riser and zebra limbs....
Chop, riser will be made of coco and osage, that's a given.
Now for the veneers, I want to go fancy with a wood on the darker side.
That's why I hesitate on ziricote, bacote or waterfall bubinga.
Or may be I'll go with coco veneers like the one I have now!
Decisions decisions! :) :) :)
F-Manny
How long is the wait now?... im thinking of ordering another.... my 1st should be here this week.....
Ziricote is very dark and macassor ebony is as well.Wenge is another one
On Jims slideshow ,the second bow shown "Erics Bow" has to have the nicest looking limbs I have seen.Simply stunning.
Steve,that's true!
These veneers are unbelievable!
F-Manny
I've seen some Waterfall Bubinga veneers on bows that were stunning. Lots of grain and very dark too.
F-Manny, I knew it wouldn't be long till you'd be on Jim's list for a 2pc. I'm thinking about a 2pc Thunder Child as soon as I catch-up on a few things.
Juniper or easter red cedar veneers are pretty dark if it is all red wood. I am pondering a riser material to go with juniper veneers some time soon.
I have seen some stunning myrtles lately and they vary greatly in color, grain and figure. I bet there is something out there that would look fantastic. May not be as dark as some of the ohers.
also what about macassar ebony?
F-Manny
I had Jim put gabon ebony on my limbs (split w/ zebra wood). That should be good and dark for ya.

Chopx,I agree and really think my next limbs would be some of the stunning myrtles I,ve seen.I'm sure Jim could dig up some great looking wood.
Just recieved my new Thunderchild and seriously pondering a Buffalo bow.I think the wait and anticipation would kill me!LOL.
Friends, lots of good ideas right there!
Chop, although very stunning (dalmatian or regular) I don't really like macassar ebony.
I'll have to talk to BigJim, and rely on his avise.
So right now the riser will be coco with osage accents, and I'm partial to bacote veneers
F-Manny
Steve, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
F-Manny
F-Manny, Bacote is an excellent choice! I like it a lot.
Steve, got a call from today on a new bow that will be shipping to me with what the bowyer referred to as SUPERB Myrtle. I let him pick the riser material.Hopefully picks will be up in a couple weeks.
Chopx,You gotta show that bow when you get it!God,even I'm exited!
Manny,I think you and I together own more Big Jim's than the rest of Canada!LOL.

Manny, I know the feeling; I wish I would have ordered my Buffalo bow as a takedown. I have a takedown Thunder Child on the way but I'll be putting an order in for a 2pc Buffalo bow as soon as I get the funds.
I saw a couple of Jim's bows at ATAR with Ziricote on the limbs and they were stunning! If the 60#er would have been a takedown I would have brought it home.
Kenneth,Jims takedown system is second to none.If and when I order a Buffalo bow it will definately be a takedown.
I was going to suggest osage and coco riser too. Thats what I like about the osage/coco w/ juniper limbs Buffalo I have now vs. the ash/bacote I had before. It's a lot darker and I like that!
I do think ziricote is fantastic too an all the bows I've seen it on.

That's probably true!
Steve, we'll have to meet and shoot the bow
Brian, great bow you have, I remember how teasing it was to see your pictures when I was waiting for mine!
Kenneth, having a take down will make life easier for traveling, especially flying.
I'll go on a hog/javie hunt in February, so right now I'm searching for a sturdy 62" case!
For the veneers still debating.
I think I'll ask BigJim's advise soon!
I'll let everyone know what will be the outcome
F-Manny
Manny, that would be great,Lots to hunt in both provinces.
Steve,
We'll talk for sure
So I had a phone call with the Man
We're going the redwood burl road for this special bow, it will mark my 50th birthday :)
Man I'm happy i had ordered this bow!
F-Manny
redwood burl, man I bet that will have some serious character!
Manny, that redwood burl is out of this world! I saw it on a bow he had a ATAR and it is a very unique looking wood.
Thanks for the info!
Ken and Chop, what I like in the redwood burl is that it's not a veneer you see in a lot of bows. To me it looks very powerful, and will go well with the outstanding coco BigJim uses.
That will be a long 5 months give or take to wait!
And I think I did well to take a decision now, because the wait time won't get any shorter.
As always it's a real pleasure to deal with BigJim
F-Manny
Shoot! Maybe I need to get in line for a piece of that burl. I definitely need a lighter version of what I have...hummmmmmm?

Chopxs,That is one fine looking bow those limbs are stunning! ,I don't know how you snuck that out of Jim.If your thinking of another Get on Jims list yesterday! He is getting busyier by the minute.
I don't know what you're talking about this one only took 3 days :bigsmyl:
Yes I know I got extremely lucky.
I need to talk with Jim about a couple other things and I'm afraid my conversation won't stop at the accessories...F-Manny how could you do this to me?!
Actually YOU (and Steve, Kenneth, Coaster...) did this to me, pointing our wonderful buff bows, TC, take downs...
Good luck!
F-Manny
Veneer Supplies.com is a website where you can look at lots of options. Jim said he could get about any of these when I was ordering my thunderchild two piece. I had no idea there were so many walnut burl options. Beautiful!
wHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS VENEER FOR A BUFF BOW?
http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Eucalyptus-Curly-Veneer-Lot--575-x-95-3-Sheets-Per-Lot.html
Saweeeeet! :) :) :) :)
What specs for the buff?
My next 2 pc will be something like
50ish# @ 29" (8-10 lbs lighter than what I have)
60"
As for woods I was thinking of a fall prarie color theme:
More dry Grassland colors like straw and earth brown with - accents of yellow and green and silver.
F-Manny,
You inspired me. I dropped my second Buffalo deposit in the mail today!
This one is going to be a special tribute bow to my parents and ancestry using only materials found in the area of Portugal where they grew up. Hope to draw blood there with it some day.
I picked Jim because of his artistry and because I like shooting my other Buff. :D
Congrats Chop!
What woods?
For sure that will be something,a bow made of the old country materials!
One guess, olive tree wood?
F-Manny
I am waiting for the call anyday now to have him start mine! Sounds like he got pushed back a little from when I originally ordered mine!
TTT
It's contagious! Just ordered a Thunderchild today; now the wait begins..... :knothead:

That is one of them...
Eucalyptus veneers, Walnut and olive probably in the riser. I also asked him to put 2 nickels one each minted in the years my parents were born.
there will also be a few other accent elements we are still working on like antler tips from my first deer.
Anyway pleanty of time to change and tweak...I can hardly wait to see it and show it to the folks. I think they will be pleased and surprised.
