On a whellie bow, you look for 10-15 percent FOC for good flight. Some on here go for sometimes double that. What is the difference when setting up for a trad bow as far as FOC. Learn me something  . Don
Dr. Ashby\\'s EFOC paper (http://www.tradgang.com/ashby/2008update4.pdf)
Here are a few pages to get you started on EFOC. :) Also, if you scroll down towards the bottom of the main page when you first log on to Tradgang, you will see a forum called "Dr. Ashby Reports". He goes into great detail on FOC and EFOC. This may be more "learning" than you wanted. :)
Whew!! Thank you Randy!!!!!
You covered it far better than I could have.
God bless,Mudd
On the other hand...
Don't feel that you need an EFOC arrow in order to kill game. Arrows have been working without it for a very long time.

No you don't need an EFOC arrow in order to kill game, but it sure makes a good thing even better!
Personally, I'd rather have a flatter trajectory with less weight up front.
learn me.?
Since I have started using 200-250 up front my penetration in live animals has improved significantly.
Montauks...I can get my arrows to 10 gpi with that set up. Not too heavy, not too light....just right for me. And the weight up front makes a big difference for me.
That is about the same set up i use Bill, and with the same results.
trajectory is defined by overall weight not FOC.
I read Dr. Ashby's artical, thanks very much. It seems I'm trying to compare apples to figs. With a compound, in my experiance, penetration is not a problem, so hitting what your aiming at 40 yards or further is. With a trad bow you not only have to hit what you shoot at but penetration is an issue. This may be partly due to, in my case, not being able to shoot a trad bow over 50 lbs. at my 28" draw. I can comfortably shoot a compound with 80% letoff at 65 lbs. at my 27.5" draw. Please don't take this wrong. I am not trying to start a compound-trad war. Don
As mentioned earlier millions of animals have been killed without high or extrene FOC. It sure does help with that penetration thing in my view. To achieve high or EFOC you most often need to go to carbon shafts ( skinny ) which help with penetration as well.
The key is to pick an arrow weight you want to shoot and then decide if you want standard, high, or extreme FOC. There are plenty of threads on here to help you find any of the options you like.
Bill, is it GPI or GPP?
Don, I shoot 58#@30" with a 750gn arrow. I have almost 25% foc. This is made up with an AD hammerhead with brass insert, steel adapter with some lead added and a BIG ACE HEAD.(I added lead to match my field points to my BH). That is nearly 400 grains up front, And I blew through three deer last year that averaged about 120# ea.
I wanted to try it, so I did. It worked but not needed for the big(?) game I tend to hunt. I would say that an arrow of 11-12 GPP of draw weight with a nice 150-200gn head will work swell for you. FOC and overall weight should be plenty with a set up like that. M2C
