Charlie showed of his grill skills while bredding frog legs from a previous hunt and making coffee, think we will have to keep ole charlie around!!!

Go Get 'Em Ken! Best of Luck with Bark Eater.
... mike ...
-
i'll be tending the fire and scouting bro, i do not wish to kill another bear but will do EVERYTHING in my power (fair chase wise) to put one of the other members on a big ole boar! i would love to throw a rope on a 400 pounder! how ya shooting your Kanati?
-
the "hunter" became the "hunted" today when we sent Bowspirit off to kill us a tree rat!! he got trampled over by a fisher!!! i believe bigger then the one in my avatar pic!!!
-
That is cool as hell!! You weren't kidding, that Kanati is BEAUTIFUL!!
If that was a white "domestic" fisher, the results would have been MUCH different!!!! :deadhorse:
-
NATHAN!!!!! and where have YOU been???
-
LOL Nate had to talk him down "off the ledge" before arrows were flying! wore your knife today and it preformed AWESOME, again thanks so much bro!
-
Sorry Charlie..... But if Nathan's COOKING, You're out of a job pal!!!!!
-
Chuck, I would be OK with that from what I hear. Besides it would give me more Hunt time.
Chuck, I hope you can make it up. Camp would be honored to have you. In fact your Rock is beckoning. I hope your bad patch is getting better and perhaps a weekend away would be good for your soul.
I just looked tonight and have 6 packs of venison left. I would have been all gone but have been rationing it.
Chris, Tim, and Kat If one of you accidentally shoots through one deer and kills another during early season, That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Call me.
Ken and Chris, I had a great time but next time leave the down pouring rain at home.
-
I would be up for a quick bowhunt when deer season opens if ya have room. Have climber will travel! Shawn
-
Whats up Nathan? Hope things are good! Man I love these threads. Thinking about selling the house and moving north! Hope to see everyone soon.
-
Hey Chuck! Where ya been brother? Sup Shawn?
-
CHUCK!!! Glad to hear from you. You know me, i crawl into my cave and don't come out till the season approaches! Hope to get to hunt with you this year, if not up north then at least down our way. Good to see Chris is around, probably even taller last time we met! Ken, glad to hear it performed well for you, I couldn't have possibly found it a better home. Charlie, no worries about the cooking. I have no desire to take anyones position in camp. Hopefully we can share the deer dragging chores at some point this year!
Nathan
-
Hey Brian, good to see you are still flinging arrows, Hope all is well with you. Where you thinking of moving? SHawn, nice to see your avatar mug as well!! Sorry I missed you at the BH this past year. Hopefully see you up at Kens at some point. If I can get my butt up that way, I think I may have some antelope loins that are just dying to hit an adirondack grill!!
Nathan
-
Man what a great group of guys :0) How have you guys been ? Miss hunting with yall and shootin the breeze . Look forward to seeing everyone this year , hope to make it up some time .
Ken : Post some pics of that ther knife if you don't mind . Thanks Drew
-
will do Drew, will try to get some pic's up tommorow night maybe in the knife forum as that knife needs its own thread! now do YOU have pic's of anything shiny and sharp?
-
Looks like you-all had a great time.
-
Sounds like fun!
-
bear season this weekend, we will be in full hunt mode!!!!
-
I have a wedding to go to Saturday Down near Saugerties. I wont make the Bear Hunt. Good luck guys. I wish I was gonna make it.
Nathan, the knife you made for Ken is very nice. I hope to play with some farriers rasps. Not sure If I'm raedy for forging though.
I dont mind cooking but during hunting season I'd rather be hunting, I have a few things we can put in a pot to warm up though that would hit the spot. May have to cook some potatoes to go with.
Anyone camping up there make sure to hang your food while away from camp otherwise you run the risk of being accused of baiting :dunno:
Drew and Brian Lots of stories about you guys. It would be nice to put faces with the legends.
Chuck and Shawn I have the face with the stories but it would be great to see you all again to make more stories. This time Chuck perhaps you will get a shot at that ADK Giant.
-
Holy moly guys! Wish I coulda made it, but the wife came back in town Friday. I had to work our first Home game against Hawaii on Saturday..... We Lost...
Unfortunately I’m having to work this weekend as well as we are hosting a game against TX too. Football season really puts a dent in hunting season. Even the hardcore hunting club cadets feel the pain, as all major sporting events are mandatory. It doesn’t leave much time to hit the woods.
A lot of complaints have been flying around for years about WP being either a school for military leaders or athletes, and are we loosing focus, but that’s another campfire story…
Ken, I had no idea you owned a Kanati. I’ve wanted to give one a try for some time. Please save some of them bears for me.
Also, I’m about to purchase my license. What do I need for up state? If I get the Super Sportsman, am I covered? My area doesn’t offer early Bear, is that a separate stamp of sorts for up north?
-
Casey,
Good to here from you. I fuind it hard to believe we will take all the bears, DEC estimates approximately 5,000 bears in the Dacks.
No special permits necessary. If you are planning on applying for a doe tag, that is Gun only I recommend you do it for your area and not up there. With a bow you will be able to take one Doe and one buck before gun season starts. After October 16 it is Buck only and Black bear! I'm not sure how it works with Smoke pole.
Even atfer gun starts up there you can hunt with a bow. Last year Chris shot a buck with his bow in the middle of November. I wish I could have seen the old time 4 wheeling gun hunters faces.
I hope you can make time to come back up. After all we need someone to carry all that gear back down the hill :readit:
Good luck with the sport season. Hope yo0u can make some time to hunt for yoursef.
-
Sounds like a good time. what area of the Adirondacks were you guys in? I used to do a "trek"/hunt/canoe trip in the West Canada Creek area during the first week of the ML season. Was always a blast.
-
I will be putting the ground blind we made to the test on Saturday.Maybe Yogi or Boo-Boo will pass by looking for acorns and I can send a cedar shaft as a greeting.I can only hunt till noon but it should be a good outing no matter what happens. :goldtooth: :archer2:
-
Ken : I sure do and will get pics soon . That Kanati is sweet , love the color . Drew
-
Hi guys,
Had a great time stumpin with you this summer. Have to get up to camp to hunt with you boys this season. Will be trying my luck with the bears Saturday as well. Good luck to all of those going out there. Just wanted to mention the 3D shoot on Sept 25th in Vernon Center. This is being put on by a great family that shoots & hunts Trad. Info is in the events and just wanted to let you guys know about it. Should be fun. Hope a few of you can come.
-
Dan,
i will try and make the shoot, will see if i can talk the rest of the gang in to going as well.
Casey,
got the Kanati a few weeks ago and love it. i had not planned on using it for hunting but it just fits me so good and is great in the stand that it will now be my go to bow for hunting season. very fast and easy to shoot. the evergreen riser just dissapperas as soon as ya set it down somewhere!!!!
-
Charlie : I look forward to meeting you as well.
Ken : I can,t seem to put my hands on my camera at the moment.
-
Sean B, we are hunting just north west of the Johnstown/Gloversville area near Rockwood. Right on the edge of the ADK. Park!
-
I re read this thread and realize,
we have such a great group of guys in this region + surrounding areas.
Sean its about 1 hour 45 minutes perhaps you can catch a ride with Casey, Pick up Shawn and Brian on your way up, We'll need another lean to. The mountain is Big plenty of room for all.
On a serious note, anyone wishing to come up, throw the tent in the car, if there isn't room in the lean to or if the bugs are bad, there's plenty of room for everyone.
Good luck this weekend guys.
Dan the shoot sounds fun! I may be up for the ride if a few others attend. The practice will be good before season.
-
doubt i can make Saterday but it is possible! Sunday i will small game hunt and could put a small push on for anyone bear hunting around 11 or so depending how long everyone wants to hunt. most bear sign is up by the ledges around the mediciene stand with good sign above it and below it by the spine stand. i could walk someone to the spine stand early Sunday morning if they want me to? i'll then small game hunt, build a fire at camp and put some coffee on.
-
Geez guys, can you have any more fun?
-
Ken , no bears for you........????....lol!!! :biglaugh:
-
Great bunch of guys for sure. This is what this site and trad archery are all about. People getting together and enjoying life. Hope to see you all soon.
Dan
-
Ken,
No bears for me either. I will be glad to get in a little tree rat hunting, and help to put on a push on Sunday A.M. though.
-
Hmmm...I'm kicking it around for sure!.. I do have alot of things to catch up with around the house. I have a 9 x 9 oil cloth that i use for trekking, as well as a modern 3 season tent.
-
Sean, No one will give you grief if you choose other enjoyed hunting Utensils once seson opens up there in a couple weeks.
Especially if your thumb still isnt healed. Others in camp enjoy BP as well.
-
Sean,
Shoot me a PM if your thinking of heading up. I have a one man tent and/or a nice hammock with rain fly and net I could use if we get crowded in camp.
I may make it down next week, but Im still working some logistical issues on my end. I just picked up my SS license yesterday, so Im sooooo ready to get out there.
-
Ken (KAT),
Thanks again for the string. Its made the widow a much happier bow. Though, Im not completely sure if recurves are for me yet. I always wanted one, and since getting the PCH, Im not shooting it as much as I thought. I just feel more comfortable with my longbows. That being said, the PCH may be on the classifieds soon.
Ken (ADK),
I'll be sure to hit you up for a chance to shoot that Kanati. I hope you have a leash (or dummy cord as us Army guys call them) for it during these early season hunts.
Charlie,
Thanks for squaring me away on the licensing. I was over stressing it, as I thought I was going to have a similar experience as I did at the DMV trying to register my vehicles or worse yet trying to get my pistols legal.
-
Casey,
Well it seems as if every state has confusing regulations. I dont really understand why people in the adirondacks need an extra month of Rifle season.
I have not lived here all that long but it seems as if regulations are part tradition and Part politics. I'm not tryiong to open a can of worms here thats what the law and regulations thread is about.
I just think they should have statewide regulations and do away with North and South Zones.
This would extend Archery season statewide and still give gun hunters 3 weeks to do their thing. It has been my experience, "most" gun hunters are done after opening weekend here.
I think I will be after Squirrels locally on Sunday. I still am considering a trip to the mountain but I will be taxed after a wedding the day before.
I am excited to be able to have an opportunity at some small game.
-
Great pictures, great Kanati, good times for sure!
F-Manny
-
as i said i will not be of much help Saterday morning, will be up early afternoon. Sunday i could walk anyone that needs guidance to a good bear stand. i will not be staying up on the mountain Saterday night but as ALL my friends now, our camp is your camp, your welcome to it!
-
Anyone looking to be around next weekend?? Ken, will give you a call tonight to check out the logistics.
Nathan
-
Well early up the Mountain in the AM on Saturday, early bear is on and hope to try out the ground blind that we set up. All natural with good shooting lanes in about 5 directions. Good time to scout for the deer opener coming shortly I'll be tote'n the Chad Holm recurve and some cedars, hope to get to draw it back and make some action. Can only hunt till Noon but thats a good 5 hours, by then my butt will want to move...lol!
-
I'll be there, too, Ron. Don't know if I'll make it a morning hunt or try for the whole day. Here's hoping Yogi shows himself...
-
Ron,
i'll give ya a call tonight, make sure you and Tim coordiate where you will be setting as he is CLOSE to the 2nd blind. Chris, you have a EXCELLENT chance at seeing a bear in the mediciene stand!!!! i hope to head up there by 7:30 or so, swing up top, scout and puch the ledges to you guys.
-
Ken, don't matter to me I'm just going to stretch my legs and see if there is any activity on the lower part. If Tim is close it may work to either of our advantage.
-
see everyone in the am!!! remember grouse and tree rats are open as well!
-
Right now I'm planing for a over nighter next weekend. Either Fri-Sat, or Sat-Sun. Hopefully nothing impedes. Good luck this weekend guys. Hopefully I'll see you soon.
PM me your numbers and I'll call as it gets closer.
Casey
-
Sending smoke to the Great One asking for a "Good Day" for my Friends and Brothers!!!
-
It's killing me I cant be there this morning. hope you guys are having a grand ole time.
Off to the wedding soon. Personally think weddings are for august!
-
Great time this mourning, put a couple of turkeys out walking in. Heard them later but never saw them.Had a red squirrel share my ground blind for a minute but not much else was going on. Nice mourning till it warmed up and the skeetters came a calling. Still not a bad way to spend some time.
-
I saw a buck real early then heard something go through the swamp but could not see it. Ten minutes later I hear my brother fire the 30-06. Nine minutes later a second shot. He got a 175# male. Very nice coat and nice looking bear. I am still up at camp and staying for the weekend. Of course the bear goes to the guy with the rifle not the longbow. Very happy for him. Guess I can't post pics as it is not a trad kill. Good luck to all out there.
Dan
-
Cool......
-
anyone see Casper err i mean Bowspirit????? where were ya bro? pushed the top ledge for 3 1/2 hours to an empty stand, i bet Yogi, Boo Boo and Big Ben all wallered through there laughing!
-
Is his car still up there...........
-
Oh, I was there, Ken. Waited till about 10, then covered some ground. Stayed close enough to the medicine stand for another hour or two that I think we were within spitting distance of each other and didn't even realize it.
-
did ya see anything?
-
Made it up to the flats and wound up putting the stalk on what turned out to be another fisher. At the time he sounded bigger though... :knothead:
Other than those turkeys and one of Chuck's black squirrels that pulled a disappearing act, nothing else was seen bro.
-
a new name The Fisher King!!! there was fresh bear poop just above the stand you were in and a LOAD of deer sign.
-
Wish I could make it up tommarrow. Sure sounds like all it'll take is time on stand to make it happen...
-
at least the weather was nice. Maybe this weekend will bring some luck.
-
So, who is going up this weekend and when? I may have got shut down for a two dayer by the wife, but I will at least be there for one full day minimum.
Casey
