my goal for the season is to kill a deer with a stone point/wood shaft. got some super nice heads and sinew in the mail. already have some cedar shafts..now how do i mate the two correctly? i dont have a lot of the primitave stuff and im not too worried about keeping it hardcore primitive..just want a stone point on my cedar shafts. how do i do it? is there a good video i can watch along?

Mounting a flint head (http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000080)
I'm no expert, but have done a few. Basically, I used a saw to make a cut cross grain a little shallower than I want the head to be. Then using an exacto knife and small files I worked away at the slot until the point fit snug.
I used a 2 part epoxy to glue the point in place and after dry wrapped it in with artificial sinew.
Check the point on a spin tester or by hand as you go to make sure it is mounted straight and true.
are all your stone points matched for weight??
i would weigh them then use a field point of the same weight to tune your arrows with. only then would i mount the stone points.
if your not fussed on being primitive just cut a groove to match your point and glue up with epoxy. like whip said, spin test them as the glue goes off.
also i mount my heads 90 degrees to the growth rings of the shaft. less tendency for them to split that way.
good luck
thanks guys. may give one a try today.
I believe if you look at the build along forum you will find it there. Take you time doing it. I have built some with stone heads they do turn out nice.

Whatever you do ...make sure you have a good shaft to head taper.. Most Primitive Newbis make them too blunt. I did too many moons ago
Enjoy the "PRIMITIVE" ride ... Jeff
